One Month Post Plication: Aug. 17, 2012

I keep forgetting to add my forum updates to my blog updates, so here is the post plic 1 month update from last Friday: It's been a busy week for me. I am happy to report though that at 1 month post plication, to date, I have lost 16 lbs! I am very happy with my progress and just continue to feel this was the best decision ever. I have been taking in 64 ozs of water since the required day we were to do that, week 1 of soft foods I believe it was. I enjoy my water intake. I have found it somewh

Practice Makes Perfect

So WOW. How to handle this all? Right? It was overwhelming for me to think about going from liquids to soft/regular foods. Liquids were easy because all I had to do was to make sure that I had liquid in my hands at all times throughout the entire day. I simply finished one kind and grabbed another. Easy PZ. For me, in order to master something totally foreign to me, while adhearing to the golden rule of no liquids within an hour of meals requires clarity. For me, clarity means scheduling. So t

Inbetweeners

So 2 weeks ago I had a really difficult week. I noticed that my emotions were going up and down like a rollercoaster. I was ranging from upset to super sensitive to hurt to mad. It wasn't happy. I read online and discovered that when you lose weight your fat cells release hormones and that can make you mood swing. Especially if you are losing weight more rapidly than usual. To remedy this, I went out and bought some Rhodiola tincture. A friend of mine put me on to these a few years back when I

I am soo excited , just banded on July 25th

ok so i am very excited because I just got back from mexico today. I was banded by Dr. Ortiz on July 25th. I am currently feeling pretty good, but still sore from the air, and learning how to deal with things like burping. Only had some water so far and a little broth. I weighed myself when i got home and although i havent eaten anything I am still the same weight I was on the day of my surgery which is 268. Is this common? not that i was expecting to lose much yet but i would have thought a pou

PPD5 (Post Plication Day 5)

This is Post Plication Day 5 for me. I had my procedure July 20th. I had to stay an additional 2 days near the OCC because my stomach swelling was slow to reduce and I was having some phenomenal gas pains. Wow, can gas really really hurt! Everyone at the OCC was fantastic and the Dr.s took good care of me, very reassuring and very thorough on follow up testing to make sure that what I was experiencing wasn't anything to be concerned about. And as it turns out, it wasn't. I got home yesterday and

10 Days and Counting (posted on forum as Here's My Story, What's Your Story)

Good Evening Fellow PLay Cats (Plicators) & WLS-ers: I wanted to share my story with you here. My decision to be a PLay Cat (be plicated) came out of a need to be healthy. My health. I'm 41 and I had this super candid conversation with my mom not long ago. She's had a mild stroke (10 or so years ago) and a major heart attack all fairly recently. But her health decline? That started when she was 47 (20 years ago). That's the age she became diabetic. The big bad D. As a result, her health to

12 Days and Counting

Twelve days to go until plication. (why did the 12 days of Christmas just pop into my head?? ...12 pounds before op, 11 lbs the next week, 10 lbs week after.. ok i'm stopping now ) Today I went out dancing with friends at this really hip inclusive club. The music was fantastic, the ambient was perfect and there was the sweetest breeze. Every one had a drink in hand. This was my first "2 weeks to go until procedure" temptation challenge. I am not a major drinker, but I do like to social drink.

wicked games

I've been working out everyday for the past 2 weeks. I've been eating healthier and I stay under a calorie goal thanks to "my fitness plan" that I'm constantly on. But the scale hasn't been budging! I feel like all my hard work isn't paying off and I just want to eat any sort of junk food I can get my fingers on! I mean I feel healthier, faster, and stronger. I feel like my stamina has sky rocketed. Several weeks ago I would climb a flight of stairs and get a bit short winded but now I can climb

24 Days and Counting!

Day 24 I am counting down until I have my plication procedure. This is the first day of my blog. I feel very excited/nervous [excervous??] about everything. I find myself catching sight of my body in the mirror as I walk by it. I wonder. . . what ME will emerge post plication? How Exciting! I can not wait to find out! I am happy about my decision to take control of my health. I began my pre-op dietary instructions 2 weeks ago. I chose the protein shakes and the low fat frozen dinner with ampl

I would like to point out that I am so happy for everyone who has reached their weight loss goal and have kept it off which really says a great deal about a person. The determination and strength to stick with a lifestyle change and maintain is something so wonderful. I'm in a somber sort of mood because I can't say I'm one of the "greats," as I see them. I feel just completely stuck in the middle and technically I am. It feels almost as if I'm starting from square one. I still have around 100lb

I'm obsessed with this yummy, vegan, and easy dessert "milkshake" recipe I've come across. 2/3 cup of almond milk (any flavor) 1 tsp of almond butter 1 frozen banana 1 scoop protein raw vegan powder (optional. You can use non-vegan protein powder too) Blend all ingredients until rich smooth consistency. Enjoy! This treat makes me so full, I consider it a meal replacement! It's so healthy for you too! It has about 239 calories per serving (without protein powder) but it can have less calori

Got back from TJ on Monday. Jeri and I took the greyhound bus down there and that was quite an experience. It was cheap and in this recession I'm all for it! HAHA I got an unfill and I forgot the Dr's name but he was really nice and helped explain a lot to me about the reason for my weight gain and how to get back on track with the help of my band. My band was too tight so I am completely unfilled right now. The doctor put me on a liquid diet immediately but unfortunately I ate solids for 2 day

2 weeks post op sleeve

2 weeks out and I still feel great!!!! I have added a new shake to my morning routine, lowfat yogurt, skime milk to thin it out, strawberries, spinach, blended and drank for breakfast and lunch. I have also taken cooked chicken, green beans, added some boiled potatoes, some skim milk, mayo & butter, blended it smooth and waalah. I am drinking things that I would have said "gross" to a month ago. Oh and tomatoe soup with a little goat cheese, mmmmm taste yummy. I have lost 14 pounds since

A new day ... a new me .... turning over a new leaf starting NOW!

So its been a long time since I've come on this site .... This is where it all started for me. Where I found Dr. Ortiz and this great community and .... where I've made some great friends. I can come here and not feel judged as we all have something in common. I was banded in August 2008 and lost some weight. In December 2008 I received the best Christmas present every -- a positive pregnancy test. A little leary of it, due to two miscarriages before - I had Kate in September 2009. Went in

ONE WEEK POST OP SLEEVE

So I am one week and a day out from sleeve surgery and I feel really really good! Just wanted to give some highlights for those collecting info about the sleeve. The only "pain" I experienced was from the gas, but it wasn't anything unbearable. I was up and walking a short time after surgery, so that I could get rid of the gas, by Tuesday night I only got up a time or two to walk around the room and burp. If I did not have the drain attached to me, I don't think you would have known I had sur

5 years....removal of band

I had my Lap-Band done by Dr. Ortiz almost 5 years ago. I have absolutely no complaints about Dr. Ortiz or his staff. I didn't want to fight with my insurance company, so I went to Dr. Ortiz as self pay. I had some ups and downs, but managed to lose nearly 70 pounds over a period of three years. I was looking good and my mind had trouble catching up with my body image. I live in TN, and my first problem was finding a dr who would do my fills. I found one about 120 miles from here. And had abo

Tired

I am tired all the time, but I don't think it has anything to do with my sleeve. My mom has early onset alzh., and has been living with me for 18 months. It has gotten so unpleasant around her that I cannot wait to take her to my brother's house on Friday. I feel very guilty for being so glad she is leaving for a month or two, and even guiltier that I am hoping she decides to stay there. Until this is all settled, I don't really have a perspective on how my energy level is. I am doing the b

Curiouser and curiouser

Lori has me all curious about some of the cosmedic procedures. I don´t know if it is fair to my spouse or our retirement fund to spend anymore money. I am just thinking about my 40th class reunion in October,(which I wasn´t even going to attend at my presurgery weight.) As far as surgery, I am feeling fine... much better than I thought I would at this point. I am anxious to get the port out and get home to my hubby, because I really miss him so much. More later.. need to check out some of
