Exercise

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band on Friday, June 25, 2010. Yesterday, I started back at the gym. While I was a little sore, I walked 1/2 mile. Today I am going back and hoping for a mile. As long as I don't have any complaints, this should be ok? Can anyone give me some good advice to their exercise regime? I know I have to wait 3 weeks before starting upper body workout.

Suggestions are welcomed.

Walking is great it will def. help with your recovery and the bubble-belly factor (gas bloat). I would wait a few weeks before you start anything else too physical. I was told you have to wait 90 days until you can do ab exercises, but Dr. So cleared me for ab stuff after only about 45 days.

My gut feeling is you are still healing, you *just* had surgery. Don't push it too hard too fast. They recommend you increase your walks incrementally, dont just go out for an hour walk your first time out, start with ten min, then twenty, etc.

Hi,

I started by walking the next day after being banded...and I took it slow adding more mileage slowly, one day I did overdue and felt it the next so I rested. I agree with the comment about not pushing yourself. I was banded the last week of March and I felt anything I did Ab-wise for weeks, Finally the beginning of June I could do my Yoga without any pain or pulling, however I have just now regained my Ab muscles, barely--long way to go, but it's a journey..for life...no need to rush.

Thank you for all your support. I think I will take change my expectations a bit. Walking is fine for me now. In 3 months I will have the stamina to get out there and work with the weights. When I was at the gym yesterday, I had fond memories of weightlifting and aerobics in my early 20s. I look forward to getting back in the swing of it.

Thanks guys.
