I have GERD really bad. Does the surgery increase or decrease instances of heartburn??

Hello, I'm getting banded on March 4th. I'm 29 years old and weigh 340 pounds. I have always been overweight all my life. I can't even remember the last time I weighed 250 lbs. maybe 7th grade? I'm so nervous. I hope the surgery works for me. I live in southern California. -carrie
