I decided to stay on liquids after my last fill to see if that would cause me to FINALLY drop some pound. Since eating properly hasn't seemed to work, I thought I'd give it a try to see if liquids would do it. And so it has! I know I can't do liquids forever, but it was a test to see if it would work since nothing else has. I did try to eat a whole wheat cracker earlier and it sure does fill me right up. I think I will keep up with protein drinks for breakfast and lunch and then start to try meat or fish for supper and see how that goes.

mona-camille replied to mlgpdx's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Well, 4 days on all liquids must have done something because I got on the scale this morning and I was down 4 pounds!!!! Yup, I'm staying on liquids for a while! If that is what it takes, then thats what I'll do. -
What's for dinner tonight?

Thats just since my fill tuesday. Doctor wanted me to stay on liquids for a few days because he thought I might end up being too tight. Then, I thought I would stay on them for as long as I can handle it because that is the only way I lost weight before. Since eating food isn't working, I thought I would try liquids again for a while and see if that works. Prior to my fill I would have had something like this: coffee no sugar, little cream 1 packet of oatmeal 1 water 1 scambled egg and 1 breakfast sausage link 1 water 1 turkey patty and steamed veggies or: coffee, no sugar, little cream 1 scrambled egg 1 breakfast sausage link 1 water 1 tuna w/crackers kit 1 water chicken and veggies -

Thanks ladies, you guys are so thoughtful and make me feel better. I am going to try to stay on liquids fro a while and see if that doesn't help. I was able to lose for me pre-op by doing that so I am going to try it again. The regular rules don't seem to be working, so it can't hurt to try it this way. I DO feel ok though after thinking about it. Although the scale didn't show it, I did lose 3 pounds of pure fat. With the one pound gain, that must mean it is muscle I gained. (This is from that cool scale I told you about - weighs water, bones, muscle and fat separately). It is very hard to stay optimistic, but I am trying. Thanks again ladies! As for the rest....it's exactly what I expected and why I didn't want to post this. -

Airplane Ride Home

Yes, I used it during and after surgery, so it went with me. There's no security issue really, they are going to take it from you and do a drug swab test on it is all, so you don't need a prescription for it. They are going to do that no matter what you say, it's just protocol I guess. I just want to watch them in case they drop it again so they can pay for it. I never sleep without mine either. Ever since I got it. I don't like it, but if I don't use it I feel horrible so I always wear it. -
ALANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you???? I've missed you here!!!

I expected 15 pounds but would have been happy with 10. I couldn't wait to come on here and shout to the world how happy I was. But.....it was not to be. I went tuesday. A huge disappointment for several reasons and of course, embarrassment so I didn't post. I actually gained one pound but lost 3 pounds of fat. I don't even know how that is possible since I AM very tight! He gave me another fill and now I have a total of 10 cc's and am very very tight. Still on liquids. Afraid to eat because I can tell I am very tight. I can get liquids down, but slowly. I do no not know what is wrong with me. It isn't possible to eat what I eat and NOT lose weight. It just isn't possible. I have been walking every day at lunch for 45 minutes which is a good 3 miles. I have almost no arbs whatsoever. Meat fish and veggies only. Occasionally oatmeal. No sugar, no butter, no oil - there is simply no reason for me not to lose weight. I am beyond crushed. I don't know why this is the way it is or what to do. I have already had several thyroid tests and they come back fine. I even had a diabetes test and it came back fine. And to top it off, the doctor decided that his charge of $100 wasn't enough so I have to pay $250 for a fill now. I screamed at them. THey didn't even bother to call me and tell me before hand, they told me after I got there for my appointment, so if I wanted a fill I was forced to pay it. Then, the doctor couldn't find my port and dug an dug and dug! So, I spent the rest of the day crying. It is very hard to have hope after all this time. Especially when I know what I am doing. Lap band or not, I should be losing weight. I give it one more month and if nothing comes off of me then I am going to insist that my regular doctor find out why my body will not let go of this weight. This is ridiculous! And on top of all of this, I feel horrible for coming on here to post this news again. I feel like a fool like a failure and it is humiliating and embarrassing. And I feel bad for any newbies reading this and I don't want to scare them off. And now everyone is going to say "oh not again, Ramona complaining about not losing weight, she must be such a cheat". ***tears. -

I have a CPAP too and please be very careful with it and do not let it out of your sight! At security they will take it to do a drug test on it, but tell them you do not want it out of your sight. See, mine was broken by security but I didn't realize it right away. So now I watch them and will know instantly if they drop it, because then they can pay for it. Also, I stayed an extra night at the Lucerna so the plane ride home was ok. And I had a 5 1/2 hour flight. I took a great book and read all the way home so the time went by fast and I had no problems. -
I joined the band-wagon a day early!

Congratulations!!! Welcome to bandland! -
I thought the pain medicine they gave you was in the IV after surgery. Maybne that why they don't wnat to give you any, because there is already some running in the IV? Plus, didn't they send you home with 4 pain pills? Thats odd if they didn't. But either way, glad you are now banded!!

My first fill was ok. I got it at the OCC under fluro and didn't even feel the needle. However, when he squirted the saline in the band, I did feel a slight burning sensation up around the band (chest area) but it wasn't bad at all. No reason to be nervous at all. You will get alittle swollen after the fill and that is why you go back on a liquid diet for a few days afterwards. I just had my 7th fill (up to 10cc's now) but that is highly unusual and only because I have the larger VG band. And they don't bother me a bit. Try not to be nervous, there is no reason to be and if you tense up, then the shot might hurt, so RELAX!!! All will be fine.

High Protein Foods - Very informative for newbies!
mona-camille replied to MyNewLife's topic in Diet and Nutrition
This is great, thanks so much!!! -
You're so funny! I too blended foods, but was able to stop once my liquid diet was over. It didn't lead to more blending for me. That seems like a silly reason to ban blending. We are adults and can handle the rules.

You just can't do stomach excercises for 3 months. You can certainly do light housecleaning, but for the first 2 weeks or so, you really need to take it easy. You did have surgery and you need to recover from it. I hope you didn't use a vaccum cleaner. That is a definite no no!

Hey D, did my sister answer you yet?

Was thinking of a funny comeback, but you stole my thunder!!!! But tell me, how do you eat beans every day? I mean, which kind and what do you do with them? I like beans but don't really know how to make them or what to put them in. I need ideas, miss stinky - just teasing!

Don't forget beans and cottage cheese!

Getting Banded the Day after Christmas!
mona-camille replied to Rhondasue's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
When I hear all the horror stories of the pain and reflux and vomitting I wonder if I will really be sorry for doing something so drastic. These horror stories sound more like they are for gastric bypass. There really aren't many for lap band???? I don't have pain and didn't have any after the surgery either. Never took a single pain pill. Vomitting is extremely rare unless you are talking about the pb'ing and that can be avoided by simply following the rules. I don't think I have ever heard a single person say they were sorry for being banded, nor would I call it a drastic solution. I would however, call gastric bypass drastic, andpainful and very serious with lots of complaints and problems. Read this site as much as you can, and your fears will quickly be put to rest. -
Well hello there and welcome! I'd be glad to kick you in the rear! Oh, oops, sorry you said GEAR! LOL!! Just kidding! Stick around and let us know when you need US to kick you and we will, gently. We will also support you and help you on your journey! You've done good so far, that weight loss is nothing to sneeze at. But, you DO need to follow the pouch rules so you don't stretch it and ruin it. Good luck and welcome!!

Below 250? Thats fantastic!! It's not little, it's huge!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! Savor it and then move on......down that is, LOL!! Seriously, it is very common not to lose weight the first week you are home. You are swollen inside, retaining some water and I bet you haven't had much time on the toilet either. Most of us have gone through the same thing, especially the toilet part! One day soon, you are gonna drop a bomb in the toilet and then you will see the scale move! For some reason, most people have a hard time eliminating that extra few pounds stuck in the colon after banding. But eventually, it will come out and VOILA! There you will see yourself lose weight instantly! And don't get grossed out or embarrassed. We have had the 'toilet' talk here lots of times. Just means we are all normal and experiencing the same things, LOL!! Give yourself a few days and you will see the pounds drop.

You are so right! I am so comfortable talking about my weight here, that it actually has me opening up about my weight at home and with people face to face now too! Really, like they can't tell how much I weigh? But it was still hard to say it out loud. This place has given me a lot of strength for which I am grateful!

You can have protein shakes after a certain amount of days, 7 I think. I am not positive since my surgery was so long ago, but check your paperwork. Once you can go on those shakes, you won't be so tired and dizzy. They help a lot!
