NSV's pre-fill, 7 days post-op
mona-camille replied to Trav's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Hey good for you and congratulations!!! Sugar free hard candy is a VERY good idea, thanks for the tip!!! Hadn't thought of that before. -
How about apple juice? I drink that when I need to and it works nicely. Glad you have restriction, it's new for me too and I couldn't be happier! Glad you are feeling it too!!

Eating around the band means not following the rules. Or eating too much even after you are full and then stretching the band. Or not staying on liquids for the full 21 days. Basically means you are not following the rules. Once you are over the 21 days liquid phase post op, you are free to eat anything within the rules. So if you are worried about eating in different countries, just wait the 21 days. You would be able to find something appropriate after that. Whatever it is you eat, will just be a lot less of it.

Pain - do meds control is adequetly?
mona-camille replied to CindyLou's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I too have a very low threshold for pain and get easily nauseated. That being said, I had no pain whatsoever. Gas and bloating but no pain. Never took any sort of pain pill. I think most people will tell you any pain they had was minimal. Good luck and you will be fine!! -

Well I kind of knew that too, that small more frequent meals were better for you, but since that goes against the OCC rules, I wasn't sure. But, since it's the best I can do now, and theris NO way I want an un-fill at this point, I'll just do the best I can for now. I know if it gets too tight, I'll definitely go back. I guess I just wanted someone to say it was ok to go beyond the 3 meals. Well, I can't even say they are meals with just 2 or 3 bites a time! Thanks for you help guys!!

I feel kind of stupid since I ought to know this after all this time, but since I have only had restriction since tuesday..... when I eat something, I get full VERY fast, like within 2 or 3 small bites, which is great, thats the purpose of the band and I am so happy and giddy over that. But, within 2 hours I am very hungry again. No, it's not head hunger, it is actual stomach growling hunger. So, I eat 2 more bites, feel VERY full happy and giddy again, but then again, 2 hours I am very hungry again and then disappointment sets in. I mean, I am still eating way less, so thats good, but I thought the fullness would last longer. If I try to eat more, then it hurts the band area so I stop. Yesterday was the first day I really tried food all day instead of liquids. So here is what I ate. 3/4 envelope of oatmeal which went down pretty good since it is mostly liquidy. Later I tried one of those small single serve cottage cheese containers and that took me several hours to eat the whole thing, and it was only 2 small bites at a time. Later I had some beans and turkey, 2 small bites is all. Then later, I had 2 small bites of sausage. But I was noticing that every 2 hours or so, I was very hungry again. I know this shouldn't happen, so I am kind of curious why it is. Does anyone else have this happen and is it really bad to eat this way - 2 bites every so many hours? That goes against the OCC rules so I am not sure how to handle this. Boy, you'd think after being banded all these months I ought to know this. BUt, I am so FEAKING excited to finally know what REAL restriction feels like. Now I finally feel like one of you! I felt like such an outsider for so long. So, any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Bobbi!!!!!!! how the heck are you? I've missed you too! Glad you still have restriction. This is such a new feeling for me, I am so happy to finally have it. YEAH ME! Yeah, a lot of people couldn't open the e-mail I sent. I'll send you another once the new page is done. Oh and yeah on the new computer too. What fun!

It is easy to break little blood vessels if you have severe vomitting, but if it keeps up, you may need to see a doctor. Cara is right too, NO FOOD! Go back on liquids for 3 days. When were you banded? I hope it if beyond the 21 days or you shouldn't be on food at all yet. Good luck and please keep us posted.

First real episode of PB'ing...
mona-camille replied to Allcdngirl's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Yeah, it's not fun and is actually scary. I did it only twice so far and it was from eating too fast. But that sure taught me quick to slow down because I don't ever want that to happen again! -
I agree with you 100%. There is nothing wrong with the occasional piece of pizza if your band can tolerate it. Any diet expert will tell you that refusing your favorite foods forever is a prescription for failure. The band was meant to control portions not deny you your favorite foods for the rest of your life. Thats is exactly why most people fail on restrictive diets like that. No-one is saying that eating pizza should be done on a regular basis, but once in great while, one small slice isn't going to hurt you. That being said, with good restriction, I can imagine a big fluffy crust would be nearly impossible to get down as any type of mushy bread is not tolerated by most bandsters.

Help! Contemplating The Band...
mona-camille replied to BigDaddy16's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I too knew I had sleep apnea but didn't want to get tested because I just 'knew' I wouldn't wear the mask. I have problems with sinuses and they burn all the time and having air pushed up there was not something I thought I could tolerate. It finally got so bad that I was falling asleep at work and if I didn't at least get tested, I would have been fired. I was tested and told I have severe sleep apnea and stop breathing 55 times an hour. 55 times! Thats like every breath, every second! My doctor BEGGED me to try the machine telling me that most people do not understand how deadly sleep apnea is. Many many people DIE from it. When you hear of people dying in their sleep, a lot of it is because of sleep apnea. Anyway, to make a long story short, I VERY reluctantly gave it a try. All I can say is, I AM AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY was I so stubborn? I have never felt better in my life!!!!!!! My sinus problem? That darn machine FIXED my problem! For the first time in years, my sinuses no longer burned with every breathe I take! The humidifyer on the machine takes care of that. Sure, it's uncomfortable getting used to the mask, but I hae not gone a night without it since I was tested. I have more energy, my headaches were instantly stopped, I stopped falling asleep at my desk. In short, I was the LAST person to ever believe I would/could wear the mask and refused it for so long, but now, I will not EVER go without out. I have not slept without one time since I got it 2 year ago. That sucker goes with me as my carry on on planes and never leaves my hand. I LOVE my machine and I am married to it! So, if you want to live and you want your twins to have a father - then PLEASE get tested and at least TRY the machine. You won't believe how wonderful your life will be because of it! I PROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!! GO MAKE THAT PHONE CALL! -
Where are you? I am in Bethlehem and my current doctor is right here in Allentown. But if you are closer to the Maryland border, there is a doc down there who does fills for anyone for $200 on wednesdays. She is near Gettysburg over the border. My doctor here does them for $100 but you can't get in to see him until the middle of December and you have to take whatever time you can get. Depends where you are closer. Let me know where you live or MapQuest Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, that is near me or Dr. Susan Brinkley in Maryland. See which is closer. Maybe we can meet up!
