Got my first fill!
mona-camille replied to mona-camille's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Oh yeah, I forgot to say............... The needle didn't hurt at all. I won't lie, I did feel it, but it wasn't pain, I SWEAR! But, when he injected the saline, I could feel it travel up to my chest and arounbd the band and that did feel weird. Not pain, but pressure. A tiny burning sensation. Honestly, NOT pain, just athat I did feel it. It was weird. But I never had any kind of surgery done on me so this is all new to me. The most I ever had was tonsils out and a D&C so I am a surgeryvirgin. Anyway, it was cool, and YES I definitely feel pressure in my pouch now so it was good I stopped. -
On Monday at the OCC. I have to VG band so I got 3.8 cc's. So far so good. I'm sitting here right now trying my first food. Flounder and green beans and tomatoes. My food is on a small dessert plate, and I am eating protein first and veggies next. I'm chewing and chewing and chewing. Hmmmmmmmmm fish doesn't taste so good when it is liquid! Could have started food yesterday but decided to wait until today. I was scared I would have those vomitting episodes I had right after surgery so I wanted to be home for my first meal and not at work. Had a great time at the OCC as usual. Got Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Romero to sign my book Met some nice people waiting for their surgery but don't know any names except LeahLove. HOW ARE YOU LEAHLOVE???? Crissicles - you were in the back by the time I got there, and I am sorry I didn't get to see you. Hope everything went well for you all!! Dr. Romero said he figured I would be back within a month or 2 for my second fill but then that should be good for me for a while. HE said they didn't like to overdo your first fill since your body is still adjusting to the band. At weighed myself this morning and at least now I am back down to my pre-eating weight. I had gained a few pounds back before I got my fill so I was upset about that. Darn, even fish is hard to chew down to liquid! Plus, I got 4 of my cats sitting here begging for a taste! Ok 9 minutes down and about 6 bites and not full. But my oldest cat is on her 3rd bite and still begging for more, LOL!! Uh Oh here comes NiNi and Johnny, they want in on the action. So, ok, I had a nice time in Mexico. My husband and mom and neice came with me and we got to see a lot of things. I'll have to post some pictures of my neice, she was such a hit there. She had people come up to her off the street asking her if she was a movie star. Went to Revolution Avenue and WOWZA was it ever different than it was back on Easter when I was banded. It was crazy! The whole town was out and about. Much more going on and much more people there this time. The Mexican donkeys' were on every street corner. My necie went into a Farmacia and bought a bag of apples and went up and down the street feeding the donkeys an apple. It was so cute. Can this slight feeling of pressure in my chest mean I am full? I don't feel full but I think I am done. 14 minutes and all I had was the equivalent of 2 tablespoons of fish. I guess I will stop. Wow, the cats are going to be lucky tonight.

So excited all over again! Leaving at 6 am for my fill trip back to the OCC. My hubby, mom and neice are coming with so we can have a mini vacation. It's about time too, because I need that first fill and I am very hopeful I will have restriction with it because I am gaining weight back already. Wish me luck and you all have a great holiday weekend and hug a veteran!!

mona-camille replied to Kimra's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
The first 3 weeks after surgery are for liquids including the protein drinks. There is no limit. It is only after you have been filled that they prefer you do not have protein shakes and get your protein from food instead. However, (after your fill) if you are unable to eat FOOD in the morning because your band is too tight, they say you can have 1 shake instead to make sure you get enough of your daily protein. They still prefer you get your protein from a food source, but often, people cannot eat in the mornings after their fills due to tightness. And since you MUST eat something, they figure a shake is better thn nothing. Does this make sense? -
After surgery questions
mona-camille replied to momonamission's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Part of your IV meds are anti nauseau medicine so it is rare to get sick. Some people do, but very few, I think. 10 days off should be good, just walk walk walk like the previous poster said. -
Drinking while eating...
mona-camille replied to fat2nrml's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
For me, this topic is humorous because I was never one to drink with meals to begin with. Never did, my whole life. But, now that I am told I CAN'T do it, I want it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is that ridiculous or what? I am soooooooo impressionable! -
I have read many many times that the water is safe now. Especially in the hotels, and more especially in hotels that cater to Americans. They have normal water purifcation stations all around the country now, not as in years past. I know it is hard to get used to the idea of clean water in Mexico, but that IS the case now.

Found a great protein tasting powder!!
mona-camille replied to mona-camille's topic in Diet and Nutrition
I haven't had my first fill yet, and I am gaining some weight back so I am still drinking the protein powder at least until I get my first fill. It's the only way I can keep my weight down. I also do it to make sure I ma getting enough protein because I am not a big meat eater so I will probably continue to have it after my fill too. Maybe just once a day though. -
By the way, I love your new picture!! It is so cute!!!!

I ate a day early too. Didn't kill me and I was fine. How is the doggie? What happened? Will he/she be ok? I am an avid animal lover and can definitley feel your pain. I have 9 cats, all special needs, so I know what you are going through. Although, I haven't lost any yet. I sure hope you didn't either and that you dog will be ok. I will say a prayer for him/her. -
If the clam chowder had pieces in it, that is why you got uncomfortable. Creamy soups mean just cream, no bits or pieces.

^THis is perfectly normal. You didn't stretch your pouch. It's like you said, the sweelling has gone down and you have no restriction anymore. Once you go for your first fill, you weill have restriction again. You are in what we call Bandster Hell. The period before the first fill can be agonizing because you have this miracle inside of you to help you lose weight but cannot until 6-8 weeks after the initial surgery. Just continue to follow the rules and make your fill appointment. Mine is scheduled for the 26th and I can't wait!
-
If you stay at Lucerna, look me up. I'l be there for my first fill. Can't wait! I'm bring my hubby, neice and mom with me so we'll be a crowd.

How's the Hotel (Camino Real)?
mona-camille replied to nellie's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
But what do YOU think of the new hotel? Is there a reason you aren't saying and I should shut up? -
How's the Hotel (Camino Real)?
mona-camille replied to nellie's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Ok, so you stayed there, whats the verdict? You didn't say. Plus weren't you going to ask the staff about joining us for the get-together in Vegas or San Diego. What did they say? Do you happen to know if the construction is over at Lucerna? So many questions, hope I don't tire you out, LOL!! -
Has anyone stayed there since last week yet? Is there still problems with construction, noise and reservations? There was someone or two who had reported some problems and I am looking to see if anyone else had any. I am leaving next Saturday for my first fill and wondering which hotel I should book. I prefer Lucerna, but not if the construction noise is unbearable. Thanks!

Stupid question of the day alert!!!!!!!
mona-camille replied to ImwiththeBand's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Nope, it won't. It's plastic, not metal. And no question is stupid!!! -
Have a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was lucky and have a great disability plan at work so I was out for a total of 3 weeks. I needed the 2 weeks for my own comfort, but the third week I didn't need at all, but it was still nice to be home. He may be thinking a month if it was gastric bypass. But, if he is allowing you to stay home a month, heck go for it!!
