Help! Contemplating The Band...
Kittycat replied to BigDaddy16's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Hello and Welcome!! I was banded on June 10th and honestly it's the best thing I've ever done for myself and my health. If you are ready for a lifestyle change and to get healthy and thinner..the band is the ideal tool to help you do this. Gastric Bypass is very evasive and frankly scares me. A friend of mine who had gastric bypass surgery one week before I got the band, has been in the hospital ever since (4 months) due to infection, complications and pneumonia. She had to have 4 additional surgeries and at one point her life was at risk, no thanks!! If you have any other questions about the band, pre-op or post-op info...just ask, we are here to help and support you!!! Good Luck!! -
Lost most of first fill! Why??
Kittycat replied to thesuse's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I hope this is the one!!! I PB on water sometimes too...I like it ice cold in the evening and find that I slime a little. Best of Luck!!! -
Everyone...How many cc's in your band
Kittycat replied to dianna's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
That's fantastic...you are so close to Onederland...keep up the great work...you'll have to change your name to Thinali soon!!! -
Hi Kim, book that fill and turn that frown upsidedown!!!!
-
Oh Vix...big (((hugs))), I know it all seems hopeless now and having had two surgeries so close together and enduring knee (which has to be the worst) is not fun. Take a deep breath and some percs and remember that you need time to heal...if your knee does not get better, the surgeon will have to provide an alternative treatment...you are too young to be walking with a cane. Try not to dwell too much on your weight loss, that will happen...I lost the majority of my weight without exercising, I just started now. You can do it too. Take care sweetie, we are here for you anytime you need a shoulder. Cathy

I don't drink tea or coffeee...but low calorie hot chocolate is to die for!!
-
Welcome Ajay, So happy to hear that you decided to get the band and nip the weight problem for good! I live in Canada and cannot advise you on a fill centre...but wanted to say hi and best of luck!!
-
Hi Kim, So glad you got to taste the wonderful market food, it's amazing!! I avoid that place like the plague. Your profile pic is cute...but does not do you justice at all!! LOL!! You need a fill...book one now..in the meantime, count your calories and portion control. You are doing fine...the scale will go up and down throughout this process..try not to focus on it so much...non-scale victories are much more exciting!! Good Luck!

Appointment with Surgeon today.
Kittycat replied to Kittycat's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Hi Kim, I have monthly follow up visits with my surgeon here in Ontario, Canada...if I need a fill then I get one, if I don't, I don't get one. If I need one tommorrow, I can call and go in for one, it's totally up to me. I have another follow up appointment scheduled for mid-November, but if I need a fill before then I just call and they fit me in right away. I paid upfront before surgery for surgery and 5 years of aftercare. If you decide to go to a local fill centre, then you can decide when you need a fill...generally it's about 4 weeks after surgery and then whenever you need one after that. Two days to go, you must be excited!!! All the best and be sure to let us know how it all goes. Safe trip, take care!! -
Mrs. Smoother, you may have some restriction when on solids...but I think by the time your two week follow up appointment, you may need another. Good Luck!!
-
Hi Everyone, I had my follow up appointment with my surgeon today and no fill was required. I still have good restriction when I eat solids...which is great, so far 4 weeks since 2nd fill. He told me my weight loss since surgery is right on target. I had 2 1cc fills since surgery and from this point forward the fills will slow down to .2 to .5 to make mini adjustments as required. I cannot say enough about my clinic and the after care, they have been so great!! OH AND...I LOVE MY BAND!!!!
-
The information you have should advise how many cc's it holds...my holds 9cc but it is considered a small band by Canadian standards.

OCC never called me back
Kittycat replied to julieburns's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Although I agree with what LisaL is saying. You did pay for a fill when you went to the OCC and the aftercare for "fill" related issues should have been addressed and they should have called you back. I hope you are doing better today Julie!!! -
Best of Luck with your surgery, be sure to let us know how you are doing. Don't think that you can never have tacos or other foods again, because you can...there are foods I've tried that I just can manage anymore, but it's okay, you learn to live with it. Tacos are fine for me as long as you chew really well...and don't have 5. You will do great!! Remember, it's a lifestyle change and your goal is lose weight...so even though you have a band, which is an excellent weight loss tool...you do have to eat healthy. Not to say that you can't have a treat once in awhile, you can. I am excited for you and can't wait to see your on the other side!! ((Hugs)))

What type of drugs are safe to take with the band?
Kittycat replied to MrsParris's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Don't be scared. it's a big step to getting healthy but it's so worth it....there will be struggles and there will be triumphs. If the band does it's job, appetite suppressants will never be necessary. I recall hearing about a girl who was banded before me, who went into cardiac arrest during surgery..they are not healthy. I would not recommend them. Good Luck, you will do great! -
OCC never called me back
Kittycat replied to julieburns's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Hi Julie, I am so sorry that you are disappointed with the OCC, but thrilled that you found a caring place to go and get your unfill. What an excellent provider to unfill you and let you eat and drink to get your strength back before refilling, she's a smart cookie...there is no question that you have found the right place at the right time. Feel better soon and I am sure you can keep that 8 lbs off!! -
That's too funny...I have never tried Jenny Craig, but hear that the plan is good. I have done Weight Watchers over and over again and they have a store right next to where I work...I was there last year and know the ladies who work there and they see that I'm not there anymore..I can't wait to see their faces when I have reach my goal and have my TT....I can't imagine them asking how I did it...but if they do, I will tell them. Be careful that they don't exploit you for their own purposes.

Kittycat replied to MrsParris's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I am not qualified to say, but my surgeon did tell me to avoid Advil/Acetaminaphine products, but Advil liquid is okay. -
Is there a fill centre close to home that you could go to on an emergency basis? I hope so..you can't wait any longer! Take care!!
-
That's amazing...good for you....keep up the great work and we'll hit "onderland" together!!!!
-
Congratulations, that's amazing...I will write the name of that pill down for the future!! Keep it up you are doing awesome!
-
I appreciate your concern, and I do intend to, but with any addiction, timing is everything. I have a tummy tuck planned for the late spring and if I don't quit, I can't have it...and that is my motivation. Motivation is key for me to succeed. Thanks for caring and I promise I will. ((Hugs))

AngelaAnn, make sure you are getting your calories in...especially protein and fiber. If you do not get enough, your body could go into starvation mode and you will not lose weight and could get sick. Talk to the nutritionist on staff at OCC and get some sample menus. Take care sweetie!
