  1. Hi Sasha, I feel for you. I hope you feel better soon. I was told by my surgeon that if they were not able to manage the liver laproscopically, they would have to perform an open surgery. I don't think your surgeon was negligent in anyway, it was either close you up without a band or open you up to insert the band. Take care and recover well!
  2. EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!! Is right..I had a major one on Tuesday at lunchtime....it's so disgusting!!! Never again will I eat KFC chicken. I hope you feel better now!! Take care.
  3. Congratulations...you passed a huge test...good for you! I haven't had a chocolate bar myself since May 27th when my pre-op diet started and have no desire for chocolate at all now!!!
  4. How we met is our little secret and you are so right about this forum...the support is incredible and everyone is so easy to talk to and very supportive good or bad. You guys are the best friends I have never met!!! Yet!!
  5. Ya think! My husband couldn't keep his hands off me before, now that I am down 40 lbs and heading for skinny-ville, his drive has increased, not mine though, in time maybe!!
  6. I am on Facebook and if you want to be my friend, search under Cathy Gouthro-Almond.
  7. F-Falling off..clothes that is...the best part of getting healthy...is getting thinner and having to buy new clothes!!!
  8. Montreal is a great place, I have been there on business a few times, if you go back, let me know when, it would be cool to meet up!!!
  9. I get the impression that your friend may not be a good support system for you, if you were to tell her about your surgery. I have kept alot of my friends and family in the dark, just because I don't need the negative vibe. I hand picked who I told and if they had questions, I answered them and now have a wonderful support system in person and here on the forum. My own sister doesn't know, she's dieting and getting in shape now too..and may have 20 lbs to lose tops...me 40 down, 105 to go!! This is your decision, you share it with whom ever you feel comfortable and always know, we are here for you, no matter what!!! P.S. Where in Canada does your friend live...I'm in Kitchener, Ontario.
  10. I have 4cc in my 9cc band currently and have another fill scheduled for Aug 27th.
  11. I started sleeping on my side after 3-4 weeks...my port site was sensitive for almost a month afterwards. I carry alot of weight upfront, which probably resulted in the longer period of tenderness. When you feel comfortable, do it!!
  12. You make an excellent point. When you are married your finances are pooled, I agree with that and when I make an important decision I always consult my husband. I had to pay 15K for my surgery. I got a line-of-credit in my own name to do so, I make the payment, however I also realize it's take money from our bottom line each month. My husband thought it was a drastic measure to take for weight loss, but once I explained to him how important this was to me, he was fully supportive, did not bat an eye at the cost and took me to my appointments without question. If you husband loves you, he will support what's important to you and your well being!!
  13. I eat alot of turkey, sliced low fat from the deli or the pre-cooked turkey (heat and serve). You can also buy pre-cooked chicken for salads, fajitas, stir fry etc.
  14. Hi there, are you sure it's blood sugar issues? I felt tired and light headed alot after surgery and it was my B12 level. I have a low B12 level anyway and need to take a supplement daily. Call the doctor for a blood test just to make sure. Good Luck!
  15. I was thinking...smell the rubber burning?? LOL!! Yesterday I had a major PB episode, I ate very little and chewed well and the chicken got stuck big-time. Ever since then, I have had wicked restriction. I had soup for dinner and got full fairly quickly. This morning I had 1 pc of multi-grain bread with peanut butter on it. Lunch was small cup of beef stew and I was stuffed. Could the PBing episode been a result of my fill kicking in, 3 weeks later?
  16. So sorry to hear about your Mom. Depressed no, I was very emotional on day three of my pre-op diet. I was banded in Canada and had to go on 4 shakes per day (no food) for two weeks, I cried that day uncontrollably, but after that I was fine. After surgery, I was not depressed or moody at all. When I saw the numbers going down on that scale and my clothes getting bigger, I was feeling great about myself. I think if you are truly ready to make the comittment to change your life and willing to take on whatever is asked of you by the surgeon and follow the plan, you should not dive into a depression. Not to say that it won't be difficult at times, it will be, but if you look at it with a positive attitude you can make it through. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people, they are my rock!! Best of Luck!!
  17. That's great news, good luck to you both!!!
  18. Congrats on your surgery day!!! Don't worry about PBing...it happens, it's not painful, the food getting stuck is painful, but can be avoided by eating small bites, chewing well and taking your time when you eat. Generally PBing happens when you eat too fast, too much and don't chew well. Sometimes it happens because of what you are eating, such as doughy bread or dry meat. It happens to the best of us and once it's over, you feel relieved. Best of Luck!
  19. Hi there, if you take a look at MamaMichelle's gallery of photos her bikini shots show her scars, they heal very nicely and fade in time.
  20. Hi there, To answer your questions: Restriction feels like the "fullness" feeling to get after eating a huge turkey dinner. I also experience a lump in my throat which my surgeon told me is the muscle in the esophagus being triggered by the pouch when full. How do you know if you have eaten enough? Put the recommended portions on your plate according to the diet plan provided by your surgeon and eat your protein first, then veggies, then grains and fruit. When you feel the fullness feeling, stop eating. If you don't feel full yet (no fill or need a fill), eat only what's on your plate and count your calories. PBing or Productive Burp is when your body creates slime to help the obstruction move up or down. It's not painful, it's actually a relief when the food that is stuck moves up or out. The key is to eat small bites and chew chew chew so that this does not happen. I had a major PBing episode yesterday from KFC chicken, ate small bites, but it got stuck and out it came big-time!! I hope this answers your questions and if you have any more, just ask, we are here for you!!
  21. I am sorry to hear that your surgery has been put on hold, but thrilled that you are in the frame of mind to do this anyway. You go girl and give us updates on your progress.
  22. That's great news, good for you! Until yesterday when I had my first major PBing episode, I have been the model band patient (according to my surgeon). The surgery went well, recovery was as expected and weight loss on target. Everyone is different through the healing process, I am so happy you are doing well!!!
  23. Hi Kellester..first of all welcome and don't be freaked out by my PBing episode. PB stands for Productive Burp. When food gets stuck in your esophagus, you feel tightness in your chest and your body's way of helping the obstruction move is by creating slime. Sometimes the food will pass down into the stomach, sometimes it come up. Yesterday, I had a major obtruction from the chicken I ate and I slimed alot and it came up, but afterwards you feel like a brick has been lifted off your chest. It will happen at least once and then you learn to chose foods more wisely and chew chew chew. It's not like vomitting at all, it was painless and so fast...and although this sounds strange, it's the best thing that could have happened under the circumstances. Best of Luck, when's your surgery date?
  24. Thanks Janet, I am feeling a bit better now, pretty scarey though. Keep up the great work too!!!
