  1. No Dr. Ortiz did not do my surgery. I am still doing well. I am just anticipating the filling of the band.
  2. Hello everyone. I am new around here. Found the forums today. So far I have gathered some information I did not have so that is exciting for me. As the title says, I had my band placed 3 weeks ago. Two days after surgery I got really sick and had to return to the hospital. My white count was 16,000 (normal is 5 to 10 thousand) They gave me two days of IV antibiotics and I was better. Just so no one reading this thinks this is normal. I will give more detail. I am allergic to Latex and unfortunately when I was placed under anesthesia someone put a latex Foley catheter in place. They of course should have used a non latex catheter. So it is believed that my high white count was an inflammatory response to the allergy I have to latex. It could have been worse as some folks have such a strong allergy they would have died on the table. It was a horrible mistake to which I am glad to be better. The benefit of this is I was so sick that I was not hungry at all for the first week after surgery. I was able to drink water, and propel and that was just about it. I lost 12 lbs. Of course that is not the way we want to lose it though. I feel much better now. I am getting more hungry. I still feel less hunger than I did before the Lapband and I get satisfied more quickly. I am looking forward to getting my first adjustment. The strangest thing that I had happen to me after my surgery (after I recovered from the infection) was I began craving tomato soup. Don't ask me why I don't know, but I had the utmost joy and satisfaction when I gave in and ate the tomato soup. Well I hope to continue to keep in touch and gleam information from you guys. Thanks!
