You are too sweet Ms. Kim. I had to go on a weekend that I have off. I'll sure be thinking of you guys though. -
Phone call with Dr. Miranda
julieburns replied to cckcsharp's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Oh Jessica don't let her get you down. I am sure that if you just follow the diet plan you will be fine. Has anyone been turned away? None that I know of under many circumstances where they didn't pass certain "criteria". Now that it has been brought up I did also feel like Dr. Miranda was not at all personal, didn't want to hear anything I had to say, was short with her answers and almost spoke in a "scripted" voice and she went through her speel, drawing the same pie plate for everyone and again not wanting to be interrupted for any reason. She didn't even review my chart or questionnaire sheet because if she did she would have picked up on the fact that I didn't lose the right amount of weight either. I won't get into it but several things she said to me about me were wrong and I had to keep correcting her. Hopefully one of the moderators will fill her in on this thread so she can see how she is perceived by the patients. Maybe this will help to change her ways so she won't put any other future patients what she has put you through, it's just not right. -
Judy I am so glad you updated us. Dr's can be so arrogent and unsympathetic at times when we need them to be there for us, to at least act like they care and understand and are listening to our concerns and address them without putting us down or making us feel bad. I am in Portland too and just wondered who your doctor is? Maybe I know them maybe I don't but I do and have worked in OB/GYN for almost 25 years. If you want another opinion or want to maybe talk to another Dr. I can give you several names around the city of who I would recommend. Now if you are stuck because of your insurance then maybe this won't help but just wanted to tell you this. I am sorry you are going through this very personal, scary, health issue. You have done EXCELLENT with your weight loss and don't let any self righteous Dr. make you feel any less proud of yourself. Pm me if you'd like and I'll get you those referrals. :lb4: we care!!!

:lb16: You look marvelous, I can sure see a difference. Watch out for size 10 next!!

Erin you are not alone. I could have written exactly what you wrote, except for the fast food I had ice cream (lowfat though). I did not lose any weight except what I had lost on liquids until just the last 2 weeks, which was like 8 weeks out. I was so frustrated. I still feel like I certainly didn't lose like I could have in the first several weeks. Oh well that's in the past. Think about what you can do today to help lose. Make 1 change today, like drinking 3 liters of water, or exercise for 20 minutes like others suggested. I also had to bump up my protein and start actually counting my intake, which I hadn't done before either. For me focusing on protein, at least 100 grams, and water intake alone has helped me to start losing again. :lb4: We are in this together!!

Shasha: I am so sorry to hear of your rather traumatic experience. And unfortunately yes, this can be something that must be done. You definitely cannot retract enough to visualize when you would be pressing on an artery and perhaps damage it....I know I have been in the OR as a nurse for hundreds of procedures. Glad to hear you are better today. Yes this is a shock to you but you are already on your way to recovering soon. Take it easy and keep us posted.

I second what Evette said. My weight came to a standstill after going back on solids. I even gained a few pounds back! I was frustrated because I didn't understand that this could happen before surgery. I never read the forum before surgery and wish I would have. It would have better prepared me for so many things.

Oh Mona I am sorry you experienced this. Yes it is awful when this happens. And on peas of all things? Hope you feel ok today and have no soreness from this episode. Sounds like you were at home though which is good. For me I've learned to go slowly and yes I do for the most par get signals I should stop eating. On the rare occasion though somethings just gets stuck before I know it but this is usually when I have eaten too much too fast, when I am really hungry and maybe taste something I am cooking or take a quick bite of something without chewing well.

Sleeping on our Back's forever?
julieburns replied to elainad's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I started sleeping on my side after a week or 2. I think it's ok when it doesn't hurt anymore. I was never told NOT to sleep on my back though -

High protein meal suggestions?
julieburns replied to Kim2BSlim's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Don't forget about shrimp, if you like it. I get frozen baby ones and just pour out what I want. Also for a snack if you tolerate milk it has alot of protein. You need some carb everytime you eat protein to keep your blood sugar level normal and to burn fat instead of muscle. Keep that in mind. Yes I try high protein low carb too but was recently reminded of eating them at the same meal. And lots of veggies are carbs so that works. For a snack also beef jerkey is high protein. Hard boiled eggs are a good source of protein as well as cottage cheese. -
blood sugar staying around 180
julieburns replied to ackovach's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Call your doctor. You could easily take 1 more metformin to get things moving, but that's up to him to prescribe for you. And yes the sleepiness is form abnormal blood sugars as well as your surgery and the healing process. Some people experience out of control blood sugars for while after a surgical procedure. Now I am only a nurse but I do/did take metformin for 5 years. I am no diabetes expert though. I hope this matter settles down , literally for you. -
Yes I sure did. I called it my food withdrawal time. It has finally gotten better but it was a tough adjustment. I am at 11 weeks now and finally am not mourning the loss of food and the large amounts I used to eat. I am embracing what I can eat and happy to be losing again.

Sound like anyone you know?
julieburns replied to doinitagann's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Ditto. I have told only a handful of people about my band for this very reason. -
Yes, the size of one on the inside but also size and build, maybe someone already said this. Anyway I have the 4 cc band with 2 cc in it. Going for 2nd fill on 9/26.

A- Anyone up for another round of this fun game?
-
:lb9: I't so nice you have a date. This will help focus your pre-op weight loss efforts. I encourage you to get started sooner rather than later. Don't wait until just 2 weeks before. Too much pressure. We are all here for you if you need anything. It's great you have done your research. Just read as much on this forum as you can. Go to the old posts and you'll get a ton of info.

This has been way too easy
julieburns replied to OICU812's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
What a great surgical experience for you. Yes it's true for the majority of folks banded at the OCC it's just about this easy. And for you to tour San Diego as well, now that's a trip. -

difference between slimming and pbing?
julieburns replied to momonamission's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
"Sliming" is when you spit up trapped liquid secretions produced to help digest your food. The problem is when you've got a blockage from too much too fast the saliva cannot go anywhere except up and out. there is no way for it to mix with the food and help digest it. Now Pbing, or productive burping actually is when you throw up your food. As was posted earlier you may jus spit up like a baby does or it may start with terrible pain in the small stomach ares, followed by sliming and then finally the Pbing proceeds where you actually expel the food causing the trouble. Neither one is too fun nor flattering in public. I think I explained this accurately. If not others may have another version, but most likely the same consequences. -
I encourage you strongly to DRINK minimum 2liters, even 3 a day to lose weight. When your body doesn't get enough water and you start drinking enough at first , maybe a day or 2 you may hold onto some to get rehydrated but after that you will lose more easily. Drinking juices, soda of any kind, mochas and the sort are empty calories that will only keep the weight on. NO MORE of this crap if you are serious. You need to make some serious changes today and quit doing things to sagatoge your weight loss. You can lose the weight but you MUST make changes and start today. Don't compare yourself with your husband even though it's tough. It is proven men lose weight quicker than women and just come to terms with that. Especially at first. Get yourself even just an empty 2 liter soda bottle or some other 2 liter container, fill it up with water and force yourself to finish it least 2 hours before bedtime. PERIOD. It's got to be done or you won't succeed. I encourage you to come up with reasons and ways to succeed and not continue with the "I'm going to fail before I even try" attitude. Get serious today and listen to the voices of experience. We can't do this for you. Hugs to you honey and hang in there, again this is my version of tough love!! I want you to succeed too!!
