  1. You should not be Pbing every day. Analyze why. Are your bites to big? are you not chewing enough? Are you swallowing too much liquid, like too big of gulps of liquid at a time? Is it food that doesn't agree? You will potentially damage your band if you keep this up.
  2. Thanks for the clarification, my brain is not awake early in the morning. :dash2:
  3. Julie the business lady chuckles to herself, I know a man that can give you air conditioning!! Just kidding, sort of. I hope you are able to keep cool and that movie is a sure way to be cool. I saw the news last night and it said how all the movie theaters, malls, restaurants, and any other public air conditioned hang out space was hopping with activity. Also people are escaping to the coast and the sunset highway was backed up with traffic westbound all day. We web footers just can't tolerate the hot, hot days without seeking refuge can we?
  4. Not sure why you are coughing, don't think it is band related although I am sure it has helped to stir up your "coughing muscles" which are also around the band. Maybe you have these things already but if not get some of your favorite cough drops for sure, perhaps some of the stuff to spray in your throat they use for sore throats but it would calm it down so you wouldn't cough, and good old cough syrup. Again ask the pharmacist to recommend one for your "dry" cough. Now as for the liquid phase. I bet you have just irritated things and at this recovery point you are still very fresh out of the gate. It doesn't take much at all to irritate the delicate tissue as it is healing. I think the warm herbal tea and breathing recommendations from Lisa are the best. Stress actually kills people by the havoc it plays on your insides, at multi system levels. I am guilty of inadequate coping mechanisms as well and the one thing I am doing regularly now is working on my breathing. It really has helped me. Hope you feel better today hon, take care :lb18:
  5. I am amazed. I am supposed to get 1840 calories per day. When I had it do amounts of each catagory it said 180 gms of protein, 115 gms carbs. That double the protein I have been eating and triple the carbs. And this was the low carb calculation. Maybe there is something to this that will help speed up my weight loss. Very interesting :-? :-? :
  6. I'd love to come and play. Are you off today? I am up way too early for my well being and plan to go lay down for another few hours so I'll be human later today. Give me a call after noon if you want to, if not it's ok too!..I'm off work till Monday.
  7. Paula I am so happy you have the beloved, sought after "restriction" you deserve. I sure know and can relate to everything you have written about the chewing and eating less and then perhaps not getting enough nutrition (perhaps is wrong it's true). I was not taking this seriously enough and have felt the same way you have expressed, no energy, tired, and depressed. For the last maybe 6 days now I have focused on planning my entire days meals in the AM carefully calculating how much protein I get especially. And yes I use the shakes for my breakfast always, and then sometimes just as one of my small meals throughout the day to get the added protein. I am shooting for about 80 grams a day give or take to get me out of this slump. I never though about the carb though. Some of the last few days I would go almost all day with maybe 10-15 gms of carb and then when I got home from work at 10pm be ravenous for "carbs". I have gotten some of those little 100 calorie snack packs with assorted things and they are a nice treat. Anyway I also want to give you a great big hug for keeping up on the water aerobics even when you don't want/feel like going. =D> =D> This is crucial to your health as you know and as an old dear friend who had been a football coach used to tell me about going to something I wouldn't want to...."Just suit up and show up and the rest will happen". I often will use this phrase to this day to motivate myself. You are my inspiration Paula. I have got to get on my WII fit today. Hang in ther honey and focus on getting good nutrition with such small amounts of food we eat every little pencil eraser size bit counts!! :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3:
  8. Thanks Paula for the cool wishes. Yes it's hot here and we have a warm easterly wind that is just blowing in hotter air. Yesterday we set a record here in Ptown at 101, today is supposed to be even hotter. These are the days I USED to live for. To get out on the water in my boat and go to my favorite lake or river nearby and once in the water just open up hat engine and let her fly. We could do 60-70 mph and that felt great. Of course I was in the water before you could say lickity split. The feeling on a ski on top of the water in that temp is also unbelievable. Yes this was my passion, these dog days of summer. Now I get so hot and currently have no boat so I sit inside my air conditioned home and got to work in the air conditioned hospital. Even yesterday though I was hot in my house. Mind you our air conditioning system is the cream of the crop because that's what my husband does but it still felt hot inside at 70-72 degrees. Weird because on cooler days at the same temp it doesn't feel so hot. So thanks again my across the country friend!! :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat: :heat:
  9. Good for you Kim!! You deserve to have a great fill.
  10. It isn't that I don't like just plain old water, in fact I love it and always have been a fairly good plain old H2O drinker most days. With my "restriction" I just can't seem to get it it. I'm doing good today though so hopefully I am on the right track.
  11. I too eat every 2-3 hours, yes small frequent "meals" are the way to go for some. My pbing also has gone away.
  12. I personally havn't read the book and wish I would have prior to my surgery. From what I have read here on the forum I think it is a MUST have pre-surgery for many of the common questions people have. I think we as a forum should recommend it more. I think the OCC doesn't push it as much as they should either but maybe they don't want people to feel like you have to buy his book and they are "selling" it to you, you know what I mean? Let me know after you've gotten it and read it because I am curious about it as well. I need to get a copy and read it even now as I am sure it will only be encouraging and helpful even at this point.
  13. I have been struggling getting in my daily water. I used to drink 6-8 glasses a day easily pre-band but now am having trouble. I have to eat every 3 hours or so as directed by my endocrinologist for my diabetes so I don't get terrible hypoglycemia. I had been trying to follow the 3 meals a day guidelines like the OCC suggests but had terrible bouts of low blood sugars. Anyway having to wait an hour after I eat to drink water has been a barrier to my successful water intake. By the time it's 1 hour after I only have the next 2 hours or so and when I am work I lose track of time. I always have had a water bottle at work that holds like 32 oz, and fill it at the beginning of my shift. It's been a long time since I have finished that, maybe a few times in several weeks. On my days off I am no better. The last few days I have been so dehydrated feeling when I was up at 4 Am this morning I drank about 4 cups and it tasted sooooo good. to make a long story a little shorter I have now figured out how to get my water in, hopefully. I found in my cupboards from previous diet attempts my large 2 and 3 liter water bottles. I have filled the 2 liter one today and then I will know when I've gotten in that much. With the visual of all the water in the larger container I can just sip on it or pour it in a glass with ice if I want to and I know this will help. It has in the past. I will take this to work with me when I work and then I know to just keep sipping till it's gone. So I feel confident this new plan of attack should work to get my water in. Yes pre-planning everything down to my water is what I need to do is succeed.
  14. You can have your surgery regardless of whether Tom comes with you or not. Now, now, stormy they are medical folks who see people every day in all states and women's periods are not like the plague anymore. just kidding, no offense. Use a tampon for a heavy flow just before you go into surgery and you will be out and awake and back in the bathroom in like an hour or so at most. No worries. If you can't use tampons tell the nurse discretely and she will help you keep this "secret" from Dr. Hottie.....You do have to put on disposable thong panties, yes I said thong, so be prepared if you do wear a pad that's all you'll get. Perhaps ask for 2 or 3 pair to help hold the pad in place. Now back in the day we had those wonderful belts to hold them on, but I don't think they make them anymore! LOL
  15. You're right when we say read the forum it can be time consuming. Just for clarity if there is anyone else that feels a time pinch I am happy to answer any questions or clarity things I can at any time. Just post or PM me. I am sure others would do the same. It's too bad you had to go to another forum but it gave you a better perspective on just how much of a family we are here. We are on this journey together.
  16. Well good for you...you've gotten in very quickly to a US facility. Most places you have like 6 months to a year to get your surgery and many, many hoops to jump through. I am surprised they are not having you see a nutritionist. Perhaps they will and should if they are one of the top facilities. Great success to you. You are more than welcome here but just to let you know so that if things sound different than your Dr's orders most of the people on this forum were banded by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico, the world's leading lapband surgeon that the company who makes the lapbands trained. Most of us also were self-pay so great that your insurance is going to pay for it. Keep in touch.
  17. My husband had to help me put my photo into the "Avatar". To change your name you have to notify Chad and he can do it for you. At least that is what I read once. Don't stress!! Isn't it funny how silly little things can drive us to eat, drink or whatever addiction we may have?
  18. [quote name= My husband and I are fighting about the whole weight issue. He has made it abundantly clear that the weight I have gained in the last years has been rough on him. (I cannot blame him, it was false advertising on my part) It was my idea to get the surgery, his idea to go to mexico. I want to lose the weight for me, don't get me wrong, but it is difficult for me to accept that he cannot accept me for me. HE now is rethinking the mexico thing because of the response of others who know about the surgery. OMG I have to reply. I know there are 2 sides to every story but for your husband to say it has been difficult on him and then you to chime in it was false advertising makes me so sad for the both of you. This is not the way a healthy married couple should speak of each others challenges. He should not make you feel bad and not be accepting of you but rather gather you in his arms, adore you for who you are not the trophy on his arm and grow up!! My vows were for better or worse, in sickness and health and from what you have written this does not sound like the case. Please don't misunderstand I am not getting down on you, perhaps it's not as bad as how it is typed and sounds but if it is you need to tell him to back off, you are going to do this for yourself and he can stay home if he's not going to understand this or try to be on your side. He is only adding to your poor self image and you are allowing him to sort of verbally abuse you with the comments you typed. You are also buying into it and then feel even more guilty and miserable about your weight gain. Well it's time to take a step back, pat yourself on the back for making a positive change that will help you forever and step on board the bandster wagon. It's going to be a rollercoaster ride but it's well worth it!!
  19. First of all mari02... :lb9: Pre-op weight loss that is required by the OCC is 5% of your actual weight. If you are being banded somewhere else though I don't know the answers. Dr. Miranda, the nutritionist will recommend a diet for you or perhaps the consultant told you about it. they say to start it 2 weeks before surgery but I always encourage people to start it as early as possible so as not to have so much pressure to lose so much in 2 weeks. Anyway it's usually 2 slim-fast type drinkg, and a lean cuisine for dinner. It depends also on how much you have to lose, the recommendations are based on this somewhat I think. How much do you have to lose? If it's even only 10# I urge you to start making eating changes now to help aid your weight loss efforts down the road. Hope this helps.
  20. my full feeling lasts 3-4 hours also, sometimes 5 if I've eaten alot of protein. The question is are you still losing weight? If not it may be time for another fill. It sounds like you can eat an awful lot from what my experience is. Good for you on the water though, that's my toughest thing to get in. Call the OCC and inquire also or wherever you get your fills done. :lb11:
  21. Stress in known to play havoc on your band. I can almost feel mine tightening when I get stressed. Since you've been banded since february you should know how to manage it. Maybe go on liquids for a day or 2 to help calm it down. You can drink warm fluids to help "relax" it also. Hope this helps.
  22. My husband says I am addicted to my "chat room".. and I know I am. I get so much from everyone and it really helps me to stay on track. He(my husband) occasionally will mention something cute like "Boy if you spent as much time at X,Y, or Z things would really get done". He's very kind about it though and I just smile. He knows this is helping me. I am not at a computer screen all day at work but I find myself "sneaking" onto the internet when I have a few minutes and no one is looking to check in. I am trying to exercise on my breaks but often I check out the forum first. Yes it is my new addiction....better than ice cream for my health though!!!
  23. [quote name='jena' date='Aug 14 2008, 12:07 AM' post='46779' I've heard that binging is a way of stuffing your feelings down your throat, and this is true in my case. Thanks to your support I marched into the office today and when the person who is causing me such grief started in on me again, I very tactfully and professionally told her in the nicest way to shove it up her arse. Jena And the band comes with added benefits too, the increased self-esteem you just described. This forum comes with the band also and without it I would be lost. I am glad we can all be here to offer support like this to each other. Glad you had a breakthrough time this AM. Here's wishing you another "priceless" realization.
  24. If you have been exposed then you need to start trying to fight this virus, but in reality really nothing will totally take care of this if you happen to become ill. I would start by really keeping yourself hydrated with juices and gatorade. Try getting some of those vitamin waters specifically meant to help give you the extra vitamins you need to fight this. I also believe in "airborne" even with the negative publicity it got. Try some echinacea and take several doses today. I know you may have to go out to get these things but it could help you. I know though some would say it's already too late and it may be. The reality is you may throw up. Put yourself on foods that you now are not hard to digest and not spicy and are in general mild and soft. This will help if you do throw up. I amnot sure what else but I pray for you you don't get too sick, if you do Take care. My last thought is that sometimes kids just throw up and it's an isolated incident. As you said he is playing now. Does he have a fever? You know what to do if he does so go about your day and try not to worry.
  25. Yes that's true. That sort of goes along with my theory. Phoenix said it well too. I do know my TOM was affected by having surgery as others were too. There was a post maybe a month or so ago on the lovely subject of how all of our TOMs and Aunt Flo have been affected since being banded. I don't remember the exact title though but just suffice it to say these hormones (or lack of for us more older gals) we have as women, we either love them or hate them and it's always a challenge to figure out the answers to help us deal with it.
