Another interesting article I found...it makes a lot of sense! I was raised on fast food and I can't even explain how hard it has been to break of it. I agree it is an addiction just like alcohol or drugs. My link

What IS Restriction
jhawkchick75 replied to jojobeans's topic in General Health, Fitness & Well Being
Explained very well! And I agree you need to be able to get meat in, so make sure you are taking small bites and chewing really well! At lunch ground beef and sometimes chicken are out for me, but I can do them by dinner. At lunch, consider tuna or I do sliced deli meat and those go down fine. I also do cubed ham, this way it is already in really small pieces which helps me. I am prone still after all this time to take bites that are way too big! Restriction to me is when I can get full and STAY full off of not a lot. Also, sometimes I can hear it gurgling going down, but it not be painful at all. For me right now I might be just a tad too tight. I am getting full quickly, but I am not staying full long enough. I have tried to push myself too far and play that "just one more bite" game and lost several times last week, so i'm on liquids right now to give my band time to heal. Then after that i'm gonna see how I feel I don't think I need an unfill I think I am just inflamed, but we shall see. -
I completely agree have her get in here and read as much as she can. There is also a youtube account for OCC and on there I remember seeing an interview with a teen and I believe their mother as well. I agree they are just worried for you - my family and friends did the same until they saw it. My mom was a nurse for 20+ years and still raves about the facility there. Just make sure you do your homework and go in with a good, educated argument on why you should go there. Good luck!

Here we go....on liquids for a few days. Lord help me and those around me i'm gonna be a B!!!!! Since it's all liquids i'm not gonna really title these as meals, will just write what I have when. 7:30am - Apple juice w/ Miralax and my vitamins 9:30am - Special K protein shake (1/2 of it) FYI these are sooo yummie, but not buying again. Didn't look at the nutrition guide on it and they are only 10g of protein and have 18g of sugar! Ouch! That would explain why they taste so good! Back to EAS shakes. 12:15pm - Campbell's creamy potato soup (about 1/2 the can) 3:00pm - Fiber Choice chews (2) 4:00pm - Rest of potato soup 8:00pm - Got busy at work and couldn't resist a few fritos! Ugh! *Of course doing lots of water too. Luckily it's spring break here so i'm not as locked to my desk and can get up and pee now and again! Calories so far: 900

Happy late birthday!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I am just getting back in town I hope you had a great one!!!!!!!!! Anytime at the casino for me is a good time!!!!!!! I also live by Miralax!!!! It is one of the few things that helps me out. -
Totally agree on the working out!! It is addictive!! My problem right now has been lack of time. I am hurting money wise, so I have been picking up extra shifts at my 2nd job. So for instance this week Wed night is my only night free. If I can survive the month of April things calm down a lot then. B: 1 french toast stick and a few bites of hash browns L: Chicken, potatoes and green beans - ate very little was pretty tight that day D: Pot luck w/ my family so lots of grazing - ugh! Chips and dip, meatballs, salad and then wine Calories: 1,100

Was out of town at the NCAA tourney and as you can imagine they just have the best food choices at the concession stands there! Ugh! B: Life cereal (dry) and 2 pcs of turkey bacon S: Small french fries D: Chips and salsa and a thin crust cheese pizza off the kid's menu S: A few glasses of wine Calories: 1000 (good guess not sure)

Going on liquids for a few days starting tomorrow. Had several PB episodes recently and have been feeling what I think is acid reflux. To be safe i'm gonna take it slow. Also, ive been eating really bad so that will help me get on track! Do kind of a 5 day pouch test of sorts. B: None S: Handfull of fritos L: Two cheese roll ups from T Bell S: 1 pkg of Carl Budding ham w/ light miracle whip S: Cheese and crackers D: TBA, gotta work both jobs so will take some snacks to work then eat dinner later. Calories so far: 875

I went through a phase last week where I PB'ed several times and i've also been feeling tighter than usual. So I am also thinking about doing liquids for a few days just to give my band some rest. I've never PB'ed that much multiple days in a row, so to be safe i'm gonna do the same. I'm starting tomorrow and going to at least Th and maybe part of Friday too. I have something to do Fri night where I have to eat so i'll try to go until then. I also might take a little maalox (sp?) someone told me that can also help w/ the inflamation. Taking down all your ideas too! I like the liquid motrin idea! Isn't it funny how we did 21 days and were fine but now if I do liquids for even a couple days it is like torture!? Crazy stuff!

It's been a long, long time!
jhawkchick75 replied to Kelly C's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Congrats on your success that is fantastic!!!! I was going to go in not for a fill, but just to have them check things out at the 1 yr mark, but right about that time I had too much stress I needed an unfill so I was in for that. At the 2 yr mark I plan on going in again just for a check up to make sure all is well. Just makes me feel better knowing it's all good in there. -
Yea!!!! I am so so happy for you!!!!! No babies here so I have no advice, but just wanted to say congrats!!!!

jhawkchick75 replied to Kristi's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I am so so so so very jealous!!! I would love to go to Hawaii!!! And I agree you look great!!! You rock that bikini girl!!! -
Took the day off - needed a mental health day and it has been the bestest day ever!! Got a massage and a haircut and ran some errands. Now my family and I are BBQ'ing - so nice to have them all here and I love the smell of the grill! As soon as the weather gets good we do as many meals on the grill as we can! Won't be the best food choice day, but man I needed this day! Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!! B: V8 fusion L: Spinach dip and grilled mushrooms D: TBA, but had a few chips and dip as we grill. Having most likely a hot dog (no bun of course) and some macaroni salad. Also having some cocktails! Calories so far: 800

B: Fiber One cereal (dry) L: 1/2 bean & beef burrito then stuck city! Stayed down though. S: Vanilla cupcake - ugh they were brought to us as a thank you from this company here in KC that makes the best EVER! I took some of the frosting off, but still horrible! D: 3 bites of a hamburger and about 5 french fries S: Cheese and crackers Calories so far: 950

Congrats on your decision!!! I don't regret it for a bit!!! The best advice I can give you is to take as much time as you can in this forum and read all the posts and go back and read old posts. I even got a small notebook and took tons of notes. By the time I had surgery (was 4 mos for me couldn't take off work until then) I felt so prepared I was like OK, let's do this!!! I felt like I had already been there b/c I had heard so many people's stories and seen pics. The biggest one for me has been breaking old habits and dealing w/ head hunger. It does not go away and you have to know that the band is just a tool - there is still a lot of work involved on our end so make sure you are ready for that. The band is not a fix all, but if I can be successful ANYONE can! I had horrible habits and very little willpower. So know it is hard, but doable!! Best of luck!!! Can't wait to see your progress!

Thanks everyone! Man, this last 10 lbs just doesn't want to come off! But i'm keeping at it haven't been working out like I should so I only have me to blame. But with two jobs it's tough to get the workouts in. Thanks for the encouragement!!!!

B: Fiber One cereal (dry) S: Campbell's chicken mini noodle soup at hand (low sodium) L: Chicken and potatoes D: Chicken nachos Calories so far: 1.000 Exercise: Went to Zumba for the first time in a looong time and it felt sooo good!!! Not sure what is up w/ me today, but my stomach is growling! I ate breakfast and less than 2hrs later it's not head hunger it's full on tummy growls. So i'm doing the soup and hoping that will help. Not sure what is up there.

I don't know what to think with my body right now. Last Wed it had said I had gained 4 lbs in one day so I didn't take a lot of stock in it. Today i'm down 2lbs from what that said, but that still puts me up 2 from 2 weeks ago. So we will say up 2lbs but i'm gonna weight in with the Fri people as well and see what that says. These last 10 lbs are are real B!!!

BAND SLAMMED SHUT...AGAIN
jhawkchick75 replied to PAMMIE's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Thanks yeah that definitely sounds like me! My last fill was over 2 mos ago and i've felt fine but last week I felt more restriction. I only have PB'ed twice, but one was pretty bad. I thought the restriction was from being sick, but it's still there. I get food down fine I just need to be wayyy more careful. I'm eating right now and taking it slow but definitely have "the gurgles". It's just so odd how it suddenly comes on that long after a fill. Crazy! I'm definitely gonna try some meds for the reflux...it's not bad, but i've never had it so that is why I wondered. If it doesn't go away I might go in for a check up. Thanks! -
I'll be working so sadly i'll miss it, but looks like it is a 3 part series so i'm gonna try to check the others out: http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2010/03/23/%e2%80%9ci-just-want-to-be-normal%e2%80%9d-one-teenager%e2%80%99s-battle-against-obesity/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fcnn_ac360blog+%28Blog%3A+AC360%29&utm_content=Twitter If anyone watches let me know how it was!

I'm not gonna lie i've been slacking badly lately, but when i'm in a good routine here is what I do: If training for a race run 3x/ week then do bands or abs two days a week If not training I do Zumba 2x/ week and run 1x/week and also do bands/abs If the weather is icky and i'm inside, after running i'll also do some light free weights and machines. I just finished the most recent race, so i'm excited to get back to Zumba! Just keep in mind that it is a marathon not a sprint and keep a day or two a week to let your body rest! Don't overdo it or you can risk injuring yourself.

Not losing - does this mean I have to work out???
jhawkchick75 replied to kat03's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I think it is sooo important for anyone reading this that is considering the band to know that the band is just a tool, it is not a fix all. Diet and exercise are still a requirement of the band. For me, the band alone got some pounds off for me to where I was at a weight where I could work out again. A bit will come off w/o working out, but after that the rest will not unless you do. I watched a TV show on the band and the doctor put it perfectly - the band will do about 40% of the work and the rest is up to us and the choices we make. For those of us that do not like to work out, find something that you do like. For me it was Zumba and walking. For others it might be hiking, biking, or sports. Find what you like and get motivated to do it. They say it takes two weeks to form a habit, so give it time and keep it up. For me personally I am running. I don't like running, but I love the way I feel when I am done - that nice jello leg feeling and just the feeling of accomplishment I get from it. I also keep an old pic of me around to remind myself of where I never want to be again!
