OH MY GOODNESS TOMORROW IS DAY EIGHT!
jhawkchick75 replied to tnm75's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
For me, after I got through that first 7 days the rest wasn't nearly as bad. Just make sure and mix it up. I ate tomato soup wayyyyy too much and there are so many types of soup you can either buy or make yourself. The next two weeks will fly by before you know it. Congrats! -
They are great on the eyes, but i remember when Dr. O came in my room they had already given me that nice happy pill under my tongue and all I could think of is "Don't say anything stupid Shelby"!!!
-
I think that is an absolutely fantastic idea! For most of us our eating issues are primarily mental, so any resources and assistance you can get is great. I know for me it's been a huge struggle as well. Mine not so much the amount I was eating, but what I was eating. I would definitely say I have an addiction to fast food and so that has been a daily battle for me. Best of luck!!! I'm sure it will be a HUGE help!!!

Oh jesus I bought the liquid centrum and I couldn't handle it! I made it about 5 days on it and each time just the thought of taking it made me gag! I'm on chewables now, but will keep this one in mind for when those don't work. Sounds great!

Post-op day 6 & question o/b fills
jhawkchick75 replied to sarahrnrx's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Had my first fill today and I was only up .2 from the end of my 21 day liquid diet. So it's possible not to gain, but let me tell you - you gotta stay on it! My aftercare doctor said most people gain when they go on solids so don't be surprised if you do. I went up a few lbs at first but was able to take most of it off. Count those calories and get in your proteins! On the days I seemed more hungry it was days when looking back I noticed that I ate too many carbs and not enough protein. My port was still sore up until recently and when I do any strenuous activity it gets sore too so don't stress. But also, don't be pushing yourself too hard. As someone told me a while back - let you floors get dirty...let your yard not get raked. Relax and take care of yourself then worry about all that stuff. -
I had a lot of questions, but by the time I was headed to OCC I wasn't nervous at all and was ready to rock! The reason why is because I spent hours in this forum just reading past posts. I encourage all the folks that are considering or have just had their surgery to do that. It makes a world of difference! I've noticed quite a few folks aren't doing that and are asking questions that were discussed just a few days ago. So make sure and read up a lot. I even got a notebook and started taking notes on everything I would need, things to expect, etc...But of course if you have questions be sure and ask them in there. There is a lot of experience in here. But if you read up in here it will ease much of your nervousness!

Question about Pre-op Diet Option #2
jhawkchick75 replied to ckiki's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I would ask Dr. M, but I would think as long as you are very strict on your portions, you could do what you said with the chicken and veggies. I know I do the weight watchers and lean cuisine meals, but they taste fine to me. I need them though b/c it keeps me honest on my portions. I start "estimating" and before you know it my portion sizes get bigger and bigger! Good luck! I know I was in this group for months before my time came and I saw a lot of people come and go before me, so yes when you start on pre-op it sure makes it a lot more real! -
Ugh...I remember where you are soooo well! Just the smell or thought of broth made me gag! Definitely start on the drinkable yogurt and hang in there - you will be done before you know it! You get real tired of creamy soups too, but it isn't nearly as bad as those first 7 days were. There are so many more options for soups so it helps a lot. Hang in there!!!

Congrats! I'm getting my first fill in the morning. Glad to see you are doing so well!

Home, exhausted and going to bed!
jhawkchick75 replied to tnm75's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I know for me it felt so much better to be home and sleeping in my own bed. Get lots of rest and let folks take care of things for you. I know when I got home I was so excited to see my brother had cleaned up the house for me. That is so great they put your tree up! Congrats and as Jude said, stay true to the 21 days. It is soooo important! -
That episode is awesome! I love it when she uses it to quiet Miranda's kid down!

It's official I AM A BANDSTER!
jhawkchick75 replied to carla's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
The gas pain will go away, but at least for me the gas itself has not. I never could burp before and now I can let them rip with the best of them! But it's few and far between now when I get that nasty shoulder pain. Congrats on the procedure being over. Welcome to the other side!!! -
Posting for "Cannon" (Colleen)
jhawkchick75 replied to JazzyJude's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Welcome!!! Glad you are here!!! I know your doctor said so and I by no means am a qualified medical person, but 700 calories seems low to me. I would fear your body would go into starvation mode and just hold onto that weight. I've always heard b/t 1,000 and 1,200 calories is best. Always remember you can eat too little and gain weight! Be proud of what you have done so far. You look great!!!! -
Please be very careful! It was my understanding that we shouldn't be lifting anything over 10lbs for 6 weeks. I confided in a couple of people at work and asked them to help me out during that time and they were all very supportive. Now, that i'm past that point I have to keep reminding them b/c they keep trying to help me! Guess I should milk it for all it's worth huh!

What's for dinner tonight?
jhawkchick75 replied to Musiclover's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Yea!!! You made it!!! Egg Beaters were my first meal and I did fine just take it slow. My tummy got a little upset the first couple meals because it was not used to it, but after a day or two I could eat anything I wanted and i've any trouble. Which is good and bad! Nice thing is thanks to the 21 days my stomach shrunk a ton, so although I can eat anything, my portions are like 1/3 of what they used to be. So i'll take that! My only tip is to chew really really slow. Primarily for practice for when you have restriction, but also that way you get full soooo much faster. It helps a lot!!! Good luck!! -
I know it is hard, but I would encourage you not to get on the scale right after surgery. I did when I got home, and had gained 7 lbs and it really bummed me out. So after that I didn't get on the scale for about a week or so. After about a week, the weight started coming off for me. But like everyone said we are all different. Now that i'm on solids I haven't lost and actually gained about a pound to 2 lbs depending on the day. But again, I don't let that stress me out. I know once the fills start coming that the scale will start going down again. Don't let it stress you out - it will work!!

Pre-Op Protein Shakes
jhawkchick75 replied to SamanthaW's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I agree everyone's taste is so different you will have to try some out to see what you like best. I would stay away from Slim Fast though - lots of sugar and carbs! My favorite was EAS, but I bought the pre-made ones at Wal-Mart. I know the ones you make yourself taste better, but I work about 60 hrs a week and so I have no time to make them myself. I also liked the Atkins ones as well. Now mind you neither of those were fantastic to me, but were more than tolerable and I don't mind drinking them. Mind you though I am a freak of nature that doesn't care for chocolate or sweets in general, so many of the shakes just don't do it for me, but are necessary. I couldn't do vanilla or strawberry ones - wayyyy too sweet. I struggled w/ drinkable yogurt too. -
That is really great that he is supporting you now. It's unfortunate that he wasn't on board from the beginning, but at least he's man enough to admit it and support you now. I know my dad was very against it at first and we got into some fights about it, but he's on board now. I think a lot of it was fear and he thought I was using this as a "fix all" and that I didn't think I had to do any work for it. Hopefully he understands now that I don't think that is the case! Now, does he know all the stuff he's going to have to do for you over the next 6 weeks - he might take that back! Just kidding! Hope you are feeling alright!!

How much protein are you getting in? That could have a huge impact on your fatigue and lack of attentiveness.
-
I agree! Don't want to give anything away in case folks haven't watched tonight, but she does the same old junk tonight. Tonight she goes crybaby mode. Anyone else I would sympathize but not her! I bawled like a baby during the first part when they were on the Tyra show. I'm watching it on DVR now so I don't know how it ends - I LOVE DVR so I can get through the commercials!

On the OCC website and on youtube you can watch Dr. Ortiz do a procedure. It's very short and sweet. I got ancy and nervous too, but it is cake. Once I got there all my nerves were gone. I think mostly from talking so much to folks on here.
