  1. Maybe I just hit it at a bad time, but when my mom and I go in Oct we are paying over $500 each and that is with a layover each way. That was the cheapest we could find and looked in quite a few places. We are taking Frontier. I'd like to go down there, but I just can't afford that much each time. I'm in KC too, so if anyone hears of other deals let me know. I already have my first fill set up at a place here in KC, but it would be nice to go back down there again.
  2. That is so fantastic you look great! Please keep the pics coming everyone...it is such a great motivator and I agree it shows that it can be done! Congrats!!!!!
  3. Completely understand! I've never been thin, but when I was younger I was always curvy, but athletic. But I danced and we had this ballet teacher that always brought up my weight. She always talked about how great my technique was, but that I was too heavy. I just can't believe that - I did not have a ballerina body, but I was not big. But now I look back and am just amazed at how it impacted my self esteem and weight issues. I told my niece I would let her take dance classes when she's 4, but in the back of my head I think about my experience. I know I can't shield her and who knows if she will get "the family genes", but I don't want her to go through that. I always tell her how pretty she is and how wonderful she is, but people are cruel and it scares me to death. She is a mini me so i'm scared she will get these lovely hips and weight issues as well. But her dad is tall and skinny so hopefully not. It is just amazing the prejudice that is out there. And sadly weight prejudice is one of the last ones that seems to be accepted by many!
  4. What a great rebuttal I love it!!!! Here is my concern...i've lost up to 30 lbs before and when I did my chest never gets smaller! Of course the size around does, but not the cup size. I'll be losing a lot more than 30 this time, but if I don't lose in my chest i'm gonna be in real trouble! I hate to have surgery to reduce them, but I guess i'll see how I am once I get there and decide then. I'm afraid i'll be top heavy and falling over all the time!!
  5. I am definitely going to have to get one! I get bored rather easy and so I like being able to have a variety of exercise options. I love more interactive exercising like that. Once I have a bit more money i'd love to find a tap class to take.
  6. What a great motivator huh! Congrats on your success!
  7. I will be one month this week away from surgery (yea!!!) - should I call Dr. Miranda or do they call you? I have an idea of what diet i'll probably be on and Carolyn told me about how much weight i'll need to lose, but I want to make sure i'm doing it all right. I need to lose about 10 lbs I think or so before surgery. Thanks!! Shelby
  8. How exciting! I think it would make the process that much easier to have someone else to experience it with. I hope to be a walking billboard for OCC! Hopefully I can convince others about what I great procedure it is!!
  9. Congrats you did it! Now the losing really begins. Hope you have a safe trip home, i'm sure your son will be so excited to see you!!
  10. You have done a great job you can really tell a difference!!!! Congrats!!!!
  11. YEA!!! Have a safe trip and we can't wait to hear about your trip!!!
  12. Glad to hear that it all went well...congrats!!!
  13. Agreed...that is why I haven't set a final weight goal yet. If I am going to get to where my BMI says I should be, I have to be between like 119 and 124 - What!!?? There is just NO way I will ever be that small. But I figure i'm going to do a first goal of 150 and then after that once I hit where I should be I will know.
  14. Welcome everyone! Glad to see some other October folks! I am doing a pre-pre op diet now b/c i've got a good amount of weight to lose before the procedure on the 24th. I am doing the Atkins shakes and I think they are pretty good and filling. I am not a fan of the vanilla - it is too sweet for me but I really like the chocolate and the strawberry isn't too bad either. I've also been doing the Special K2O protein water and I really like that a LOT!!! It is a big help when it is around 3 and you are at work and starving. It helps get me to dinner. This forum is great and if you have any questions just ask people are really good at answering!!! Shelby
  15. I am so excited that The Biggest Loser season premiere was tonight! Wanted to start a topic on here where we could chat about it as the season goes on. So what are your thoughts? Your favorites? What do you see happening this year? I was surprised at the team that went home tonight. I'll be coded there in case someone hasn't watched it yet! So far I really like the yellow team, but it's so early i'm sure my thoughts will change on that. Can't wait until next week!!!
  16. Great job!!! That is a really hard thing to do!!! I am starting my "true" pre-op on the 10th as well (surgery on the 24th) so I'll be right there with you!!!
  17. I'm so glad you made it through! And you should be proud of yourself!!!! I've made several plans this week that will fall during my post op and I am already worried about it. One is a trip out of town and another is a football game. We are crazy with tailgating so that is gonna be really tough eating soup, but I know it is gonna be worth it! Vix, I can't believe it's been that long since you were banded - it seems like it was just yesterday! I know it probably seems a lot longer for you of course, but I hope my 21 days flies like yours has!
  18. I applied to 2 of the 3 companies that OCC recommends and I got approved for both, but they were going to charge me an ignorant interest rate - like 15 or 16 percent! Luckily my dad is taking the money out of savings and I am going to be on a payment plan back to him with no interest. So I am really lucky there! Maybe you could talk to your bank and see what type of loans they offer. But I would check w/ those other places to that OCC say - you never know you might get a better rate than me. Good luck!!!
  19. Can't even imagine what you are going through but stay strong! About 18 days into my post op I have to take a weekend trip to wedding dress shop with a friend. It is gonna be so very hard, but just think it is temporary. If you can get through this you can get through anything!!!!! Good luck!!!
  20. Glad you are doing OK considering everything! My parents used to live in Houston so when they are showing stuff on TV I recognize some of it - Galveston too. I couldn't believe it so I am glad to hear that there were so few fatalities. I hope your clean up and loss is minimal!!! Shelby
  21. Ohhhhh exciting! =D> I am very jealous in a fantastic way for you!!! I hope it all goes smoothly and make sure and tell us about your experience first chance you get!!! Congrats!!!
  22. Welcome! That is very nice of you to get in here and get information for your boyfriend! I agree with all that has been said before. I did the battle with my insurance and after I realized there was no hope of them paying for it I was about to give up. But then I found out about the Mexico option and of course at first I was leary but after finding Dr. Ortiz and talking to all the folks in here I cannot wait! I am a little over a month away from surgery and it couldn't come any faster. Everyone in here is great and can answer lots of questions. I would seriously consider going to Dr. Ortiz and you can always either fly back to him for fills or he can find a doctor or fill center in Vegas. Good luck!
  23. What an accomplishment great job! And that is quite a nice hubby you have there!!!! Tell him we all say kudos!!!!
  24. You all said that at the hotel and at Dr. Ortiz office they have wireless or the ability to bring your laptop right? I have heard many of you say you had to wait quite a while so i'm gonna bring my laptop. Sadly even though i'm taking a week off work i'll need to get a lot done!
