Yup, I'm about 100 days out and yesterday was the day it all clicked for me, the exericise and especially the protein since my hair has been falling out in clumps. Drink your protein!!! Are you not taking biotin? That will help with the hair.....

FYI: I guess it depends on the Dr. But, the OCC says DO NOT blend food during the 21 days of liquid. If it is not creamy or liquid, you can't eat it. A lot of people were blending potatoes, etc. but it clearly says on our paperwork to not do it. In fact, I double checked with Dr. Miranda and she said, if people blend potatoes, it will just lead to blending more and more food.

I strained the chunks of broccoli and tomatoes etc. in some of the creamy soups. All you can have is liquid, it can be creamy, but you can't blend foods etc.

You definitely need to make sure you have plenty of protein. I would shoot for 60 grams. I wasn't getting enough on my 21 day on liquids after about day 10 started getting extremely dizzy, it was not fun. Make a protein shake in skim milk. Also, I drink G2 gatorade (sometimes) with a protein bullet, called "New Whey Liquid Protein." They have 42 grams of protein and come in grape, orange, fruit punch, blue raspberry. (some of the flavors have less protein gram) You can get them online the cheapest, but health stores & vitamin shops have them. http://www.idssports.com/products.php?cat=10 I know some people add protein to soups and meals, but I would rather add it to a drink. I do this when I first leave my house and I sip it all day. Hope this helps.

Why just once a week? If you get the Jello Sugar free snacks, there are 70 calories. I don't see how it can hurt you if you subtract it from your daily intake. It sure helps me from diving into other cravings. LOL

Telling people that you're getting banded.

I have pretty much told everyone & if they don't like it, they can bite me, because I didn't do it for them or to seek their approval. -
Removing Band at Goal Wieght
BandDiva replied to CindyLou's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Why would you spend all that money for temporary weight loss? I am with Stormy, maybe there were other reasons why they were getting it removed and didn't say. For me, I wouldn't put my body through un neccessary surgery again. Plus, it is a big gamble if you have been obese, to go back to the way your body was. TOO RISKY, if you ask me! -

Yeah, I am definitely am not a supporter of the Obama tax plan! It is going to kill business owners! I will be the first to say, Change was needed. But, I don't think that is a good one. Anyway, We had to get out when we could! It was heartbreaking to lay people off who had been with us for 8 years. They were family to us. I believe like Jude, things happen for a reason and all of us struggling right now have to find other means of making money. Even if they are small, they can add up and make a difference. All I know, I sure am enjoying the low gas prices right now, I know that won't last forever either!

we lost our family business! and all of us are now having to look elsewhere for income. not easy! working for family definitely has its perks. you definitely work your butt off, but you can also take off when you want!

Acai Berry ... what do you think?
BandDiva replied to SValentino's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Where Does The Acai Berry Come From? To understand fully what the acai berry offers, it’s important to know from where it came. The berry was discovered years ago in the Amazon rainforests in the northern area of Brazil. Since that time, explorers have also found the berry growing in Panama, Trinidad, Ecuador and in French Guyana. The acai berry is smaller in size than a grape and is produced in clusters by the Acai palm trees called Euterpe oleracea. It was many years after the initial finding of the acai berry that we discovered the ingredients held within. What Ingredients Are Contained In The Acai Berry? Reseach has shown that the acai berry contains a massive amount of antioxidants as well as Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Acai has also proven to be one of the richest natural sources of anthocyanins. The berry is packed with several other ingredients including fiber, protein, vitamins B, C and E, potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron. The berry is also a natural source of high amounts of amino acids including praline, tryptophan, theorine and lysine. These ingredients work together to provide a powerful health boost to those who consume the berry. What Are The Benefits Of Acai? Once the ingredients contained within the acai berry were revealed, nutritional experts began to wonder about the health benefits the fruit could offer. They began experimenting, using the fruit as a supplement to other vitamins. In the years since, we’ve discovered that acai provides an enormous boost of stamina and energy. The fiber in the fruit aids our digestive processes while the vitamins improve our immune system. The acai berry also has phytosterols which have been known to help our cardiovascular systems function properly. The richness of ingredients within acai offers benefits far beyond those mentioned above. But, in the relatively short time we have known about the fruit, it has already yielded astonishing results. Should You Use Acai? In the end, the only question that matters is whether you should use acai to take advantage of the health benefits it offers. Most people have grown accustomed to relying on doctors and the medications they prescribe to remain healthy. It’s a custom that has grown from decades of indoctrination. It may be time to seek alternative measures. Some will be open to the idea of using acai and they’ll reap the health benefits. Others will choose to avoid it. If your health is important to you, take the time to explore what acai can offer you. -

So why is protein pushed so much after surgery?
BandDiva replied to ckiki's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion

OMG Shelby, I can't believe it has been 3 weeks! :)Time flys! lol (once it happens) -
You can kiss the Diet Soda good bye. They say you can have them in moderation after 6 months, but if I were you I would just get them out of my system now!!!! I have not had them in 2 months and I don't miss them. As far as drinking with meals, I did notice it was much easier not to drink with my food when I first started on solids (when I was tighter). Now that I am getting closer to needing my fill, it is getting harder and harder for me. There have been a few times that I have taken a sip!

New here and... why no pre-op forum?
BandDiva replied to Amanda2008's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
There wouldn't be a whole lot to talk about just on that 1 forum. However, with this you post anything, anytime and everyone will respond. Also, you can look back through the posts and see plenty of posts and answers regarding pre-op diets. -
I am using Vitamin E and Maderma. Not at once, just through out the day at different times.

Congrats to everyone being banded! You will all do great! Relax and enjoy your time at the OCC ! Yes, WALK as soon as you can and as often. I didn't have hardly any gas pains and I contribute it to walking a lot. I was up 15 minutes after they wheeled me to my room. -

Hi Amada! Congratulations! You have made a great decision! Dr. O is wonderful! You will love him and the OCC, they will take wonderful care of you! I would suggest calling Dr. Miranda and telling her about your issues with the Pre-op diet. She might want you to increase Chromium, etc. Not sure about the Diuretic. She would be the best one to ask! Dana~ P.S. If you can't get her, ask Gloria for her email address.
