  1. If sounds too good to be true, it usually is!
  2. Colonics were a really big thing a few years ago - everyone was doing them for 'weight loss', when in reality, they don't do a thing. Let me know how it goes!
  3. aaa! you're one of the blood clot girls! My best friend has the same issue! I'm sure you'll be fine, though! :)

  4. Yes, and it wasn't a good experience. I had cramps for days. It's nothing more than an excessive laxative. Whatever you do - don't step on the scale, thinking you've lost a sh*t load of white -- You'll gain everything back quickly, the majority of it being water. I know a lot about 'this', as part of my ED, was abuse of laxatives, etc. Most of what they remove, are things your body requires to function & process -- wash away some of the body’s friendly bacteria along with everything else. This needs to be replaced and all good practitioners will prescribe a probiotic supplement to replenish the bacteria washed out.
  5. Oooo! MSM - I wasn't able to find any long term studies done on it. If you're looking to help with skin resistance, i would personally just switch to hormone replacement once you hit menopause. My mom did that, and she still looks like she's in her 50's - although, she's really in her 70's! I don't believe any otc supp will help much, so I wouldn't waste ...

  6. i wonder if the same info applies if you're NOT having flouro ... are blind fills still applicable? my fill nurse here in toronto, said it didn't matter if I drank/ate before a fill. we only did a certain amount per fill, so there was nothing to go by.
  7. This is an interesting and debatable topic The different types of dairy that one might include in a diet include milk, cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese. The protein in these dairy foods is roughly 80 percent casein, and 20 percent whey. I’m sure you will recognize both of these as very high quality proteins, with casein having a relatively slow digestion rate, and whey a bit faster. They both contain a high amount of branched-chain amino acids, including leucine, an amino acid with a number of metabolic roles that is also the key trigger to protein synthesis in skeletal muscle. Dairy foods are also a great source of calcium, which not only serves an important role in bone health but may also aid in fat loss (although the direct mechanism is not yet known). So dairy foods definitely have a lot of good things going for them. What are some of the negatives of dairy? Lactose, the milk sugar found in dairy products, is probably the biggest downside. Some people simply can’t digest it very well, and some are allergic to it. Those that can’t digest it very well can take a lactase supplement to aid in digestion, but if you’re eating dairy, you’re still consuming calories (from the lactose) that in my opinion would be better “spent” elsewhere, such as on a higher quality complex carbohydrate like oats or rice. When calories are limited, such as for a lap bander, you want to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck with the ones you do eat. In such an instance, I would rather consume whey protein and/or casein protein on their own, and get my carbs elsewhere. You’ll still be getting all the benefits of dairy (the great amino acid profile, the calcium, etc.) but without the “trash calories” from lactose. For those looking to lean out but not looking to gain lean weight, foods like milk, cheese, and yogurt can definitely be part of the diet. Just remember to count the carbs, and take a lactase supplement if you have an issue with lactose tolerance.
  8. My sincere suggestion. Save up, then get it. If you can't pay in full, it's not worth the money you'll be saving by traveling to Mexico ... with the amount you'll pay in interest, 'fees' and such, it really decreases the value. Plus, the band, IMHO is a perk, like cosmetic surgery. It's not a requirement. It's not a necessity for living. If you can't pay for it upfront, ya don't get it. Why add another stress to your every day life, like an addition payment? That's just my 2cents/
  9. I believe the majority of us paid out of pocket. Just make sure you have your friend research the small print - esp the interest charged by these financing companies, where are total crooks!
  10. I've been turned off of the powder fibre supplements I've been ingesting lately, and haven't found them to have fabulous results ... So I picked up a pack of pitted PRUNES from the grocery store. TMI Warning// Since my last adjustment, I haven't been having nearly enough BM's .... and my digestion has been slowed down. Now, about prunes - They're not nearly as nasty I remember them being (as a child), and after finally getting down 2 prunes over the course of the evening, I wondered if anything would happen in the 'digestive' department! I woke up this morning, starting my day with a BM! (it's the little things, isn't it?!) I was shocked at how quickly these things worked - and I recommend anyone who's fighting to get enough fibre into there diet to add a couple of prunes every day. They really get things goin' again!
  11. OOO interesting! Thanks for this info! I wasn't aware the OCC closed there dental centre -- it did seem completely out of place, though.
  12. AHH! I completely know what you're saying, as I'm experiencing the joys of 'what the hell! i ate this with no issues 2 days ago, and today, it's coming back up!' It sounds like you're still figuring out your restriction levels, too ... There are some days, I can barely get down coffee, while others, like you, late in the evening, I see myself easily eating a bowl of milk drenched bran flakes. I'm still wondering myself, why some days, things are a bitch to go down, and others, I actually have caught myself wondering if my band has slipped! I would definitely get into working out. If anything, it will help your confidence in your weight loss & you won't find yourself worrying about restriction & your food in take. Since I've started working out again, I find myself not worrying as much, and just trying to let my body tell me when I need to eat.
  13. what sort of 'solid' food are you attempting to eat? I know for me, with more restriction, there are many foods i just can't eat anymore ... Feeling/looking 'fatter' - have you been working out during this process? Losing weight is often not enough for many - replacing fat with muscle is the key. Bloating can also be caused by dehydration. Have you drastically reduced your H20 intake since your last fill? Do you drink coffee/tea or something else that's warm/hot before eating? I find having something warm prior to eating can really loosen my band for the day - which can be both a pro & con!
  14. ..which is my hesitation for traveling so far. The thought of having to get back on a plane, for a day, makes me cringe ... And all of those 'what-if's' - people need to keep in mind there are often complications (simple & not so simple) so access to your surgeon POST surgery is extremely important ... AND, IMHO, NOT for those who can't afford another trip to the original surgeon, in case of an emergency. AI know a lot of people who have tt's, and have needed a lot of follow up care, for common drainage issues, and such. Just keep this in mind before opting to go the distance to save a few $$.
  15. What I actively think about every time I'm hungry" - eating VERY slow. Chewing ... a- m i hungry, or am i just bored. - i do have to snack during the day, or I don't get nearly enough cal's in a day. I find eating high fibre cereal really really helps. Even if it's just a small little handful.
  16. potassium. Easy bruising is often a sign that your body needs more potassium. Try adding a banana into your daily diet, and see how it goes --- for me, I've had to had a banana, and it seemed to take care of the super-duper sensitive bruising I was getting from my dogs! There are potassium meds & supp's, but I'd go with the 'real food' route before going that route.
  17. Well hello, Miss Angie B!

Hope things are going well for you ... since my last fill, the weight has been flying off. Just trying to stay extremely focused on 'mindful' eating - binging is my weakness, but I think I may be onto something. Finger's crossed!

    HOW ARE YOU?

  18. I just did the lean cuisine foods .... I was obviously eating horribly prior, and it really kept me in check & kept things real for me.
  19. Do a forum search on HCG. It doesn't work!
  20. UGH. The diet pepsi addiction .... I've had to cut it out of my 'routine'. Not even the occasional sip. Now that I'm at the tension I am with my band, it just comes right back up with the fizz ... it even causes a bit of discomfort. I've stopped buying it, and now just drink Crystal Light - Peach Iced Tea with a slice of fresh lemon in the glass. It's the only thing that's kept me away from the forbidden fruit, of diet pop!
  21. I haven't seen those gummies .. yummmmmmm.. but I can see myself eating the entire bottle! So I'll stick with the boring powder for the time being!
