I am a nurse and live on coffee . It has not seemed to hamper me. I drink at least 16 oz before noon. However I do not use the flavored creamers . I usually drink black coffee and once a day on my coffee break I put cream in it. Debbie

Concerned about safety in Tijuana
RevyD replied to GoingForIt's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I travelled to the OCC by myself from Canada for surgery. At no point in TJ did I feel unsafe. I was met at the airport by a driver from the OCC holding a big sign with my name and Dr ortiz on it. The Van was well marked with OCC and we drove right to the clinic to meet everyone. Following my appointment I was driven to the Marriott and escorted inside. I personally did not venture outside by myself. The Marriot had an exercise room and everything that I needed including a pool I was picked up for surgery in the morning and brought back to the hotel the day after surgery. When it was time to leave I was picked up at the door of the Marriott and driven right to the airport. I felt very safe. Debbie -

Very good advice and well written Debbie -
Don't be scared. I had my surgery at 269 after loosing 28 pounds on the preop diet and had no complications what so ever. Laprascopic surgery is alot easier than an open incision with less complications. You are only under aneasthetic for about 15 minutes max. The key is to start your new life pre-op. Follow the preop diet so you can lose 5-10% of your body weight which is a huge accomplishment and makes the surgery much easier for the doctor. Your organs don't have as much fat on them them. Also start walking now. 30 minutes a day. That will improve your lung capacity and cardio. You have to do this every day following surgery so you might as well start preop and reap the benefits early. Once you have the surgery walk, walk, walk. Get up right away and walk those halls . No laying around because you want to prevent blood clots and walking will do that. About the water you can still drink. You just sip all day not chug. Don't be afraid. Having this 15 minute surgery will bring down your blood pressure and get your blood work back to normal. It will also help with the polycystic ovaries as well because weight loss really helps that condition. Keep reading the forum and learning and it will help. I am a Registered Nurse and found everything about the OCC and Dr Ortiz very professional, clean, state of the art OR. There facility was better and cleaner than alot I have seen in the states and Canada. Good luck and keep us posted Debbie

I brought packages of broth with me. The powder kind. I put bottled water in the coffee machine so that it was hot and then mixed the broth. I also brought crystal lite with me and added it to my bottled water for flavor. If you are staying at the Marriott they have a little shop downstairs that you can buy water, juice etc at. Also you can have broth sent up from the restaurant any time you want. Hope that helps Debbie

Is there a restaurant next to OCC or the Mariott, or a store?
RevyD replied to GoingForIt's topic in Diet and Nutrition
I stayed at the Marriott also and loved the food. It was reasonably priced and the broth was very good. Regarding water just tell them you are from the OCC and they will provide it for you. When you arrive there is 2 big bottles in your room. When I needed more I just asked. Remember do not drink it at all. That means even use it in your coffee maker and for brushing teeth like was mentioned. I also brought packaged broth with me and crystal light to add to my bottled watered in case I wanted something in my room. There is a little shop downstairs with a fridge and cold drinks as well. Also a business center with computers if you don't have a lap top. Good luck with your decision you are going to be thrilled with your results and meeting the wonderful people of Mexico and the OCC Keep us posted on your progress Debbie -
Can I b%tch for just a second please.
RevyD replied to StephC2009's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
You can do it Steph. Just hang it there. I used the benefibre in juice to fill me. Also I have large chewable vitamins and that helped with the craving of wanting to chew something. -
YOur information from the OCC should have given you some suggestions. Here are some others: Tortilla soup . This is amazing and you will love it. You can find it under our recipe section milk cream soups V8 yogurt Anything that does not have chunks in it is good. Try not to eat stuff full of sugar I drank slim fast optimun . The Royal fudge flavor. Could have lived on that and tortilla soup

Breakfast : I started the year with my........you quessed it TOMATOE PIE orange Lunch: Sticking with what works for me.............. Tuna 5 breton crackers orange Dinner: Chicken caccitori peach If it stops raining and storming I will walk to my favorite coffee spot and have a latte. Hold fast to what one of other bandster pals said.............. 2010 IS OUR YEAR TO BE THINK We can do it. With a board like this and all the support we give and receive how can we possibly not succeed. My New Years resolution is to drink more water, laugh more and reach my goal by my birthday on May 10th. Have a wonderful day everyone and thanks for all your support. I already feel like a completely different person. People I have known for years actually walk by me and don't recognize me. It is absolutely hilarious when I say hi and they get this look of confusion on their face, like who the heck is this. All of a sudden it clicks on them who I am and I have had people literally scream out loud and hug me. Let me tell you reactions like that keep you motivated to keep going. I am having a ball with this new life of mine. Okay got to run. Love and hugs to you all. May God bless you above and beyond what you could have ever imagined in 2010. Debbie

Same to you Angie. I also wish everyone a Happy New Year and am excited to see what 2010 will offer. I anticipate I will hit my goal weight before the year is up and then look into an extended tummy tuck. Talk to you next year and thanks to everyone for being such a fantastic support as I started my new life Debbie

Drink , Drink and then drink some more. Popsicles help as well. Just hang in there and try not to think about it. The more you think about it the more hungry you get. If you feel hungry do something to occupy your time or keep you busy. I would go for a walk or read or doing banking or anything to stop me thinking about hunger. Main thing is keep coming here for support and know that you can do this. One day at a time and before you know it you will see yourself getting smaller and smaller and loving it. Debbie

Hi Genie. A good place to start is by looking at the daily food logs of people. It gives you an idea of what we are eating and then you can make some decisions. I don't eat sandwhiches but for lunch at work I always have a tin of the flavoured tuna. They are very small and come in great flavors. I have 5 Breton crackers with it and usually an orange. Crackers go down fine for me. Also lots of great recipes under the recipe section in this forum. Good luck with your solids and your new life Debbie
