  2. Hi Debbie. Good to see another Islander on here. There are a few of us actually. I live in Shawnigan Lake and work in Duncan. I am a Registered nurse and being banded was the best thing that I ever did for myself. My only regret is that I never did it years ago. I was banded on Sept 29th at the OCC. Being a nurse I was a little nervous about going to Mexico. But after I researched Dr. Ortiz I was completely confident that he was the most qualified surgeon for me. I also read this forum daily and asked tons of questions and read everyones experiences especially nurses and doctors who were banded. I can tell you as a nurse that the OCC was cleaner than most hospitals or clinics I have been in . They used state of the art medical equiptment and their OR was all the most up to date equiptment. Staff was amazing!!!!!!!!!! All the doctors were fantastic. I did not tell anyone I was having my band done or where because I did not want to hear any negativity. I researched it, made up my mind and flew down by myself to have the surgery. Everything went very smoothly. I flew down Monday, Had surgery on Tuesday, flew home Thursday and was back at work Monday. I have not had a fill yet. I am loosing consistently and not hungry so I will not bother getting a fill until my weight loss slows down for several weeks or I get really hungry. Hope that answeres some of your questions and I wish you the best of luck with your decision making process. If you keep reading this board I am sure it wont be long and you will be making plans to fly to Mexico Debbie :lb11:

  4. :lb5: Welcome to the board. You have made a great decision to be banded and will be thrilled with the results. I did pre-op diet too and found it easy to follow. I needed to lose 15% preop so needed to be strict. I wanted a nice non slippery liver Anyways I did 2 optifast shakes a day and a lean cuisine meal. Double fudge shakes were soooooooooooo delicous it was actually a treat. I was hungry the first day then I was fine. I agree with Angie about stopping pop now. Also practice not drinking with your meals now as well. You might as well get used to it because it is a change you will have to follow for the rest of your life. I stopped all carbonated drinks pre-op because Iknew I would not be able to do them post. Oh yea start exercising now as well. You will have to do 30 minutes of excercise everyday post so you might as well get in the groove preop and it will help you surgical wise as well. Congrats again and I look forward to hearing your progess Debbie

  6. Yeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaa. I know. I love my band :lb21:
  7. Sorry to hear you are having so much difficultywith the band. I would suggest you call the OCC. It sounds to me like you are too tight. I could not see when you were banded but you should be able to eat more than 3 bites so give the OCC call and get their opinion. Debbie

    Port Slipped?

Call the OCC but whatever you do stop fidgeting with and moving your port around. You could start it bleeding if you are just fresh post.
  9. Good advice Cheryl. I agree with what you said. Steph If you are being banded in December start living your life now as though you were banded. Follow your pre-op diet strictly to lose as much weight as you can before surgery and start excerising now. You will have to do 30 minutes of excerise every day once banded so you might as well start doing it now. It will help your body prepare for surgery and give you a head start. I would also recommend not drinking with your meals now and cutting out carbonated beverages. That will help you get used to what you have to do once your banded. I wish you the best of luck and remember to keep us posted on your progress Debbie

  14. Thanks for being brave and sharing your story with us. Saying you are going to get back on tract is the first step. I have all the faith in the world in you that you are going to get back in the saddle and the weight will start dropping off again. Take it a day at a time and no looking back.
  15. I stayed at the Marriott and it was wonderful. Nice restaurant. Business center with computers, gymn. There were chanels with movies etc on them because I watched alot of tv there while recoveing. Very clean, great staff.
  16. Thanks for the advice. I think I will wait as long as I possibly can. Who knows maybe I will be one of those people who go the whole time and never need a fill. Wouldnt that be awesom! Thanks for all the inspiration. Reading your posts is always get me encouraged and inspired. How is your brother doing? Debbie
  17. Thanks Angie. I hope I can continue at this pace and stay on fire. I know with all your support it sure is inspiring Debbie
  18. Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I am inspired everyday reading this forum and comments from people such as your self. You don't even look like the same person in your before and after pics. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to all of us Debbie
  19. Thanks. My goal is to be at my goal (175) by Sept 29th which will be my bandversary. Debbie
  20. Hi everybody. I am just curious if anyone else out there in band land did not get your first fill for quite awhile. I was reading that you don't need to get a fill until you have slowed down your losing and have only lost 0-1 pounds a week for 3 weeks. I was banded Sept 29th and am doing great. On average I lose 3 pounds a week and am not really hungry at this point so I don't feel like i need to go and get a fill. Is there anyone else out there who did not get their first fill at 6-8 weeks but waited longer? Debbie

  22. Now a days having your gallbladder out is done laprascopically and is a very safe and short proceedure. You will probably go home the same day. Similiar to lap band for post op discomfort and gas. You will feel so much better after. I had mine out years ago and do not miss it all. Those gallbladder attacks were agony Debbie
