  2. Jill, It depends on the person. I lost approximately 9 pounds during the liquid phase but then again I do not have a lot to loose (relatively speaking). Another member of this forum, Shelby, mentions that in order for her to loose weight she must consume close to 1200 calories per day or otherwise her body goes into starvation mode and holds on to the weight. I find that this tends to be true for me as well sometimes. I also find that if I do not switch up my diet every so often my body gets used to what I am consuming and it begins to regulate itself to where I am not losing as much as when I introduce new things. There is something called the Wendie Point Plan for those following WW and the theory behind this is not to eat the same calorie amount day in/ day out but to eat within a range of calories (or points) that allows you to switch up what you eat on a daily basis so your body never knows what to expect and does not get used to the daily intake thereby regulating itself. Below is the link: Wendie Plan You can also google "Wendie Plan" and get a lot of other sites with more info on it.

  4. For what it is worth I am consuming about 1250 calories a day. This is based on my height, weight, age, activity level and and goal of losing up to 2 pounds per week.
  5. Just letting you know that fiber is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT on 3 levels: 1. Fiber (like Protein) controls hunger 2. Fiber is a nifty little trickster in the most naughty of ways that appeals strongly to my bad girl sense of being - Lets pretend you are eating 2 slices of bread that have a total of 90 calories and 5 grams of fiber (2 grams is considered fair, 3-good, 4-high and anything above that-excellent). Even though the bread has 90 calories, the high fiber content makes your body think it is only consuming 50 calories (sneaky, sneaky, sneaky)! This is because your body absorbs fiber immediately. 3. Fiber keeps the pipes active For reason 2 - this is the principle behind Weight Watchers - Calories, Fiber, Fat. If you consume something high in fiber yet low in fat you pretty much have more of it with fewer points. The bread I used for the example is Sara Lee Delightful White or Wheat Bread (1 WW Points for 2 slices) whereas most breads on the market you have to count 4 WW points for 2 slices due to the low fiber. The fiber chewables that Dr. Miranda recommended pre-op were for a reason...to keep your hunger at bay during the pre-op diet phase. She recommended that I keep chewing away during the post op diet phase as well. It did not end there though. I also use Benefiber drink mixes in my water AND used Benefiber tasteless, disovable powder in my broths. I also really like the Active Lifestyle gelatin cups that have 4 grams of fiber per cup! They taste better then Jell-O brand too in my opinion. One of those with fat free cool whip and you are in heaven. (Now I have to go get some for a snack) You should try to shoot for 35 grams of fiber a day. I know that is A LOT. But anyone who can consume that much fiber is losing more weight and quicker than those who do not. On a good day I can consume about 25 grams.
  6. I see the glass half full in your case. We are talking 5 pounds, not 50 and how much of that is water? Also considering it is a 5 pound gain over a 7 month period I think you deserve a huge bright and shiny gold star for that! How many people can say they have only managed to put on an additional 5 pounds over a seven month period including the holidays? No one I know, including myself for my entire life. Tht is great that you are going to sit down with you hubby to do an assessment of the situation and you deserve another gold star for being proactive and staring the 5 pounds straight on. I admire you on so many different levels for posting this and I hope someday to have your courage and strength but try not to be so hard on yourself. Maybe you could loose the 5 pounds before your next fill. I think you can if at least 50% of it is water like I think it is. Flush and detox and see what happens
  7. Thank you, thank you, thank you. The perfect post
  8. Angie, You are so blessed that you found this to be the case. Here in southern california, I find that 9 out of 10 will not take me due to being banded in Mexico. I can think of only 1 doctor out of the dozen I called who's office said he would take me at $350.00 cash per fill. The other option was fill centers USA in Huntington Beach (An hour away without traffic) and they are overpriced without Flouro. Which brings up the fact that I have not been able to find ANY Fluoro in Los Angeles!!! Can you believe it?...zlitch. We do not have a lot of things though like Silver Spoons, Cici's Pizza & Pasta, Wal Mart (not that I would shop there), Fresh & Easy, etc. It is so weird how I would have to drive/fly to Las Vegas to get a fill under Fluoro.
  9. I watched that interview on Youtube. Things did not work out for her and the band and she ended up having to be debanded after having the baby. Great interview. She continued to loose weight during her pregnancy with the band. I think she lost a total of 70 pounds before the band was removed. She was down 70 pounds when her baby was just a few months old. The irony is that she did not start having complications until after she had the baby. She says she could not keep water down.
  10. Dr. So Specifically said that the reason that we should not drink anything at least 30 minutes after a meal is due to the liquid flushing the pouch.

  12. 1. Heating pad 2. Wireless bras 3. I wish I would have packed something to wrap around my mid-section for support under my loose clothes clothes 4. gas-X 5. Benefiber powder to sprinkle in your broth/drinks to control hunger 6. tea bags (highly recommend Bigelow Vanilla Chai) 7. slip on shoes (you will not want to bend over) 8. Lots of single bills for tipping 9. Add international roaming to your cell phone plan if you can. I have Sprint and lucked out. Since TJ borders the US I did not get charge for 99% of my calls since the network read it in spots like I was still in the US. My total bill from Mexico was $1.96 10. Your own favorite blanket or flannel/fleece sheets if you can. It just adds a nice touch to the hospital bed and a strong sense of home. The OCC has good linens but nothing like my Hello Kitty fleece blanket.

  14. Okay, so I had the perfect breakfast and just had to journal it (even though I have already journaled it on thedailyplate.com). Perfect becuase I am full, cravings completely satisfied and the meal was LOADED in protein, low in fat! 39 grams of protein to be exact. I am seriouslt thinking about eating this meal once a day for the next week just to see what happens. Since I got the cottage cheese & egg sub from Costco you know I have enough to last me 2 weeks at least Also bought 9 cans of tuna from Costco to follow in Debbie's footsteps as well for the next week to see what happens. Going to do the Tuna for lunch with a side of fat free yogurt. Been craving dairy a lot lately so I am not sure what that means. I know it sounds like I am rambling but I really need to journal my food feelings today and I will be coming back to this for reference. Breakfast: 4 ounces instant coffee, 0 cal. 1 tbsp sugar, 35 cal 1 Carnation Frnch Vanilla Creamer, 40 cal. 3/4 cup Lowfat cottage cheese, 150 cal. 1/2 cup Kirkland Egg Starts (substitute), 60 cal. 1/2 cup taco soup, 99 cal. 2 tblsp La Victoria Chunky salsa, 10 cal. 15. Happy Birthday fellow Capricorn! "Capricorn the goat is motivated by a desire for success...they strive patiently for the good things in life. Ambitious (our middle name) and sentual, Capricorns have a sense of purpose and great faith in their abilities and do not easily part with money." See? We are destined for band success!

  16. So, it was Dr. So (or as I call him Dr. So Cute). He is great. (Too bad he isnt to pushie)

  17. Well, I guess I am blessed in a way but the pushiness is such a turn off. It seems that the more I insist I want to be left alone the more they try. I wish I could run away to someplace tropical and quiet. A mojito in one hand and a pina colda in the other (LOL).

  18. Debbie, I know Carrie's theory about your secret weapon is your Tomato Pie BUT I think I found the real weapon in your arsenil: Salmon and Tuna How It Works: These fish contain omega-3 fatty acids. In addition to being good for your heart, hair, nails, etc., those omegas can help control the amount of leptin in your body. Leptin, a protein hormone, is linked to appetite and metabolism. There's a whole, long, scientific chain of reasons for this, but we're just going to accept that it's good and not worry about WHY. Yay, omega-3s!
  19. When we say that these foods "burn fat," we basically mean that they help your BODY to burn fat more efficiently. (Don't go all chemistry-lab on us and try pouring green tea on a stick of butter to see what happens.) Read up on these power foods and some delicious ways to up your intake... Green Tea How It Works: A crucial compound in green tea is EGCG (not to be confused with famed music club CBGB), which has been shown to speed up metabolism. The caffeine content helps with that as well. Green tea contains about five times the amount of fat-fighting EGCG as black tea, BTW. And get this... Green tea specifically targets visceral fat, a.k.a. belly fat. Try Me! * Mix a little unsweetened iced green tea with sugar-free lemonade (Crystal Light has our vote) for a guilt-free Arnold Palmer with a Kermit-colored twist. * Whip up our Green Tea Crème Swappuccino for a coffee-shop swap with fat-burning abilities to boot! Fat-Free and Low-Fat Dairy How It Works: Protein and calcium are the power-duo in this equation. These two nutrients help keep your body's muscle mass intact while promoting weight loss. Studies have shown that people on lower-calorie diets that included dairy lost more weight than people who ate the same amount of calories without dairy. Plus, research suggests probiotics found in some low-fat dairy can help your body fight fat. Wowsers! Try Me! * Fat-free yogurt is a great source of protein, plus it packs in that calcium. To gussy it up, add fruit and transform it into a parfait! For the most protein, go for fat-free Greek yogurt, like Fage Total 0%. * Fat-free or low-fat cheese is an excellent (and delicious) example of low-cal dairy. Check out last year's supermarket list for some of our faves! Pop-Up Tip #1: Drink Water - Think about it this way: When you're drinking water, you're NOT drinking soda, juice, or another calorie-packed beverage. And here's a fun fact: In one study (albeit it a small one), researchers found that the metabolic rates of study participants went up about 25% after drinking a couple cups of water. So get one of those aluminum bottles and keep it filled with H2O. Beans, Beans, and More Beans How It Works: Beans have the double-whammy of protein plus fiber. Consuming protein is a GREAT way to help your body burn fat -- it gives your metabolism a boost and keeps you feeling full and energized. And dietary fiber, among other things, can help regulate your appetite. One type of bean in particular worth trying? Soybeans. They contain helpful compounds that assist in keeping the cells in your body from accumulating fat and also break down fatty deposits. Try Me! * Make a big batch of this beany salad, and you'll have a great side dish that'll last all week! * Click here for two hearty, bean-packed recipes you can make in a crock pot: 10-Alarm Turkey Chili and Very VERY Veggie Stew. Woohoo! * Stock up on soups that are loaded with beans. We're all about the ones in Progresso's Light and High Fiber line-ups. Whole Grains How It Works: Munching on whole grains adds fiber and complex carbohydrates (MUCH better than refined, white carbs) to your diet. When the carbs are complex, they break down more slowly, keeping them in your system longer. Since your body processes them slowly, you don't crash. This also keeps your insulin levels steady -- a good thing, since insulin spikes tell your body to hold onto fat. Try Me! * OATMEAL. It's a great way to start your day on the right path. Click here for all the oat-y info, recipes, and food finds you could ever hope to have. * Fried rice for fat-burning?! Ours is made with brown rice, and it totally rocks. Pop-Up Tip #2: Spice It Up - Just 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon added to your food can help prevent insulin spikes (which, as you just read, are BAD). The capsaicin in chilies gives your heart rate a boost and jump-starts your metabolism, so try some cayenne or chili powder. Ginger expands your blood vessels, which helps to -- say it with us -- increase the metabolism. Salmon and Tuna How It Works: These fish contain omega-3 fatty acids. Try Me! * Bake some salmon basted in low-cal sauce (teriyaki rules!), top a salad with the canned kind, eat the smoked stuff, mix some into a creamy spread (this recipe is GREAT)... There are SO many possibilities. * We keep pouches of albacore tuna packed in water around at ALL times. Use 'em to make our Veggie-Loaded Tangy Tuna Salad or our ever-classic Rockin' Tuna Noodle Casserole. Or just eat your tuna with a fork. Pop-Up Tip #3: Get Your Fruit On - Vitamin C: More than just an adorable pop singer from the '90s. Research has found that people with low levels of C in their systems burn fat less efficiently. So eat citrus fruit! Grapefruit, a super source of vitamin C, also has fiber and not too many calories. Try it in our Ginormous Sweet-tart Fruit Salad. Or if you're not into grapefruit, grab an orange or squeeze some lemon juice onto your salad.
  20. It will be very interesting to see if this actually makes it to the market. One could make the arguement that AT&T and T-Mobile will actually gain market share from this due to customers migrating over from Sprint & Verizon to take advantage of it. MagicJack's next act: disappearing cell phone fees By PETER SVENSSON, AP Technology Writer - Fri Jan 8, 2010 2:29PM EST Add articles about technology to your My Yahoo! LAS VEGAS - The company behind the magicJack, the cheap Internet phone gadget that's been heavily promoted on TV, has made a new version of the device that allows free calls from cell phones in the home, in a fashion that's sure to draw protest from cellular carriers. The new magicJack uses, without permission, radio frequencies for which cellular carriers have paid billions of dollars for exclusive licenses. YMax Corp., which is based in Palm Beach, Fla., said this week at the International Consumers Electronics Show that it plans to start selling the device in about four months for $40, the same price as the original magicJack. As before, it will provide free calls to the U.S. and Canada for one year. The device is, in essence, a very small cellular tower for the home. The size of a deck of cards, it plugs into a PC, which needs a broadband Internet connection. The device then detects when a compatible cell phone comes within 8 feet, and places a call to it. The user enters a short code on the phone. The phone is then linked to the magicJack, and as long as it's within range (YMax said it will cover a 3,000-square-foot home) magicJack routes the call itself, over the Internet, rather than going through the carrier's cellular tower. No minutes are subtracted from the user's account with the carrier. Any extra fees for international calls are subtracted from the user's account with magicJack, not the carrier. According to YMax CEO Dan Borislow, the device will connect to any phone that uses the GSM standard, which in the U.S. includes phones from AT&T Inc. and T-Mobile USA. At a demonstration at CES, a visitor's phone with a T-Mobile account successfully placed and received calls through the magicJack. Most phones from Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. won't connect to the device. Borislow said the device is legal because wireless spectrum licenses don't extend into the home. AT&T, T-Mobile and the Federal Communications Commission had no immediate comment on whether they believe the device is legal, but said they were looking into the issue. CTIA The Wireless Association, a trade group, said it was declining comment for now. None of them had heard of YMax's plans. Borislow said YMax has sold 5 million magicJacks for landline phones in the last two years, and that roughly 3 million are in active use. That would give YMax a bigger customer base than Internet phone pioneer Vonage Holdings Corp., which has been selling service for $25 per month for the better part of a decade. Privately held YMax had revenue of $110 million last year, it says. U.S. carriers have been selling and experimenting with devices that act similarly to the wireless magicJack. They're called "femtocells." Like the magicJack, they use the carrier's licensed spectrum to connect to a phone, then route the calls over a home broadband connection. They improve coverage inside the home and offload capacity from the carrier's towers. But femtocells are complex products, because they're designed to mesh with the carrier's external network. They cost the carriers more than $200, though some sell them cheaper, recouping the cost through added service fees. YMax's magicJack is a much smaller, simpler design.

  22. Beth, I am so glad you are back on track and just remember this is not a race and just enjoy the journey. Sometimes there are unexpected suprises when we take the long route This new clinic you found sounds like one of those unexpected suprises! It sounds better than the OCC actually. I am tempted to ask for a referal and buy a plane ticket. Anyway, please post information about it when you get the chance.
  23. Thanks for the belated birthday wish. I hope you are doing good on full foods now. I know it is the end of your thirsd week as of today missy since I saw you exactly 3 weeks today (hehehehe). Going back for my second fill a week from Saturday on 1/16. No restriction yet...what can I say.

  24. Glad to hear your first fill went smoothly. I had my first at the OCC on 12/17 at 3cc in the 11cc band. Not enough restriction so going back for second fill on 1/16 - a week from Saturday. Never heard of Dr. Marco...wonder if he is new?
