  1. Hahahaha! It is a good thing I have never tried a butterscoth cookie before So glad to hear that your mom has good restriction! When did your mom get her fill? How many CC's did she get?
  2. Janice & Kayla, Talked to Dr. So about this when I went to the OCC for my fill on Thursday. I brought it up because when I was in the waiting room the nurse made me spit my gum out. Dr. So said it really is not a big deal to have a piece every once in awhile (i chew 3 - 4 pieces per week). I need to chew it for different reasons (nerves, desire to eat when I should'nt, urge to smoke). He said if it becomes an issue that I can try chewing it only until the flavor goes away then spit it out. He said the nurse probably told me to get rid of it since I was there for a fill (no one ever told me that I could not shew gum...again, I really need the rule book).
  3. Debbie and CindyLou I think you are both just fine. Again Dr. So's emphasis was on those people (and let's face it I was one of them!) who gulp down drinks between every few bits. If the main concern is food flushing than we are the creators of our own destiny and you both have been losing a consistant amount of weight and hence, whatever you are doing seems to be working for YOU and YOUR JOURNEY. If it aint broke don't fix it. The only reason why I think it is advised that you wait after you eat before you drink is that my mom (lifetime WW member - reached goal at 118 pounds) has always said that it takes 20 minutes for your stomache to send the signal to your brain that you are full (which in theory could have been 20 bites ago). I guess on the reverse you might want to wait before eating anything on the chance that you could be full from liquids still in the stomache?
  4. I think Angie said it all... That sums up an entire conversation does'nt it? There is no comeback.
  5. I have had a skin allergy for the last 7 years and doctors think it is something I am eating but I do not know what. I take over the counter allergy meds to keep it in check. I think the barium reaction was allergic that went into a full blown cold.

  6. Thanks Angie, despite low restriction I am not planing on going back to the OCC for another month anyway. I can pretty much eat anything I want and I have not experianced ANY chest tightening like I did WITHOUT a fill. Really weird huh? I suspect I had an allergic reation to the barium. I looked it up on line and it said this can happen if you have allergies to foods, etc.

  7. Angie, this is great advice for everyone! I have these small bowls I got from Ikea for something like 65 cents a piece and the hold exactly 1 cup of food. I use them now for all my meals. Weight Wathers also suggests eating off of small plates so that you can fill up your plate and it looks like you are getting a lot of food. It is 1. a mind game and 2. an easy way to portion control without measuring. You can also buy these really cool measure serving spoons from a WW center (no membership required for purchase) that you can use to dish out the food onto your plate without worrying about getting out a measuring cup, scale, etc. At work we have (spelling?) Carafs in the kitchen and I have found that they too hold exactly one cup of food so for lunch I use the carafs.
  8. I have taken the train twice from Los Angeles to Sante Fe Depot, however I have never taken the trolley. I notice that when I get off the train that there is a trolley that stops right next to the train tracks and signs that indicate it is the blue line that runs to the border & I noticed that there is a ticketing kiosk next to it, however on the MTS web site it indicates that I have to walk to the trolley stop across Ketner to catch the blue line that goes to the border but I did not see a ticket kiosk at that location. Which blue line stop do I use and where do I buy the ticket???? Do I use the blue line stop right next to the train in the Sante Fe Sation or is that only where I buy the ticket before crossing the street. It seems weird to have to cross the street if there is a blue line stop in the station itself don't you think?
  9. I think it would be a great idea if this thread included detailed directions on how to take the train from Los Angeles Union Station to San Deigo Sante Fe Station and the trolley from Sante Fe to the border and back to Sante Fe Station. I plan on utilizing the trolley on my next fill in January and I am not sure if I catch it from the Sante Fe Station Depot or if I have to walk across Kettner and catch it and where the kiosk is to purchase the tickets, etc. I have also had another member ask me about taking the train. For those of us who live in Southern California it beats driving that is for sure.
  10. Hi Shelby, Just wanted to follow up and mention that when I had my fill with Dr. So I asked him if chunky soup were okay with out draining first and he said absolutely and that I did not have anything I need to be concerned about since chunky soups stay in the pouch a lot longer than liquid soups. He said the main concern involving liquids mixed with solids is flushing solids out of the pouch.

  11. Hi Sabrina, I am glad you posted this because it remided me of the conversation that I had with Dr. So 24 hours earlier when I was in for my fill. I asked him about the drinking liquids/eating solids/eating liquids and the reason why protein was so important and he told me that the main reason why they do not want bandsters drinking with meals is that the drink will flush the stomache of the food you just ate and you will end up eating more than you should. I told him that i thought it is due to the possibility of causing a streached pouch and he said although that is a secondary concern the main reason was flushing the food out of the pouch and causing more eating to get full. The reason why we were discussing is we were on the subject of high protein solids vrs high protein liquids and I told him that I loved high protein soups like black bean soup and he said that was great except liquids high in protein sort of defeat the purpose since they go through the pouch quicker than solids. Maybe he feels that since you are so close to goal and you have reached your 1 year milestone that you have shown enough self control to lead you the rest of the way. By the way, he also mentioned that foods that can be considered both a liquid and a solid (like chunky soups) do not need to be drained before consuption. I could exhale after he said this. I have no idea about the history of you husband but when it comes to unsupportive significant others I could write a book I remind myself everyday that this is my journey and it is all about me. I get to choose the people I invite on my journey and all the negative party poopers can stay at home and talk to the wall
  12. It was nice meeting you at the OCC. You looked ravashing darling & after surgery too! I can't wait to hear how everything is going with you. Are back home yet? My fill went okay. I got 3cc fill in 11cc band.

  13. Hi Angie, despite my fill yesterday and having a head cold from the barium I suspect

that I do not have enough restiction. How many days should I give it to kick in?

I just wanted to say congrats and send you lots of hugs that don't hurt. oxoxoxoxox (which reminds me there is a 7-11 like store in TJ called "oxox" Don't know how to pronounce that but I affectionately refer to it as hug n kisses )
  16. Hi, I have been banded for a month and have had no more hair lose than I normally do. I did not think I would though since it has never been an issue for me in the past. I have really thick hair and I was praying for some increase in lose but no such luck.

  19. Hi Angie, have you ever heard of such a thing: Foods To Avoid

After you have transitioned to solid foods, you should try to avoid certain foods. Such foods include, but are not limited to:

    Dried fruits

    Pineapple

    Rhubarb

    Corn (especially popcorn)

    Grapes

Nuts and seeds (walnuts, whole peanuts, almonds)

I really like almonds and sometimes they a...

  20. You are the one who cracks me up!! LOL, I was wondering the same thing too but you put it perfectly! I wonder if it is like a reality show like Top Model. Multi-teared screening, process of elimination to be come Mexico's next Top Doctor.

  22. Accidently posted my lose of 1/2 pound yesterday instead of today since I woke up yesterday thinking it was Wednesday! Anyway, Angie, you deserve a pass for crying out loud. For all the reasons you said, you are a winner and after all, how many people can say they only gained 2 pounds over the holidays? By the way, I lost 1.6 pounds in water in 24 hours from Monday until Tuesday if it makes you feel better it could be water. Drink, drink, drink and flush out all that sodium
  23. OK Shelby, you have added a a whole nother demension to this conversation that I did not even think about. So, my infamous taco soup that is chunky (loaded in protein)...does this mean I cannot eat it any more????? That would be the most terrible thing in the whole world. It is a liquid and it is a solid both. How are we suppossed to handle foods that fall into both catagories??? So I am assuming Angie based on your reply that I should go with eating the soup first then move to the salad w/o the need to wait as long as the soup is a liquid w/o chunks. BUT whether I am sipping a soup by itself OR with an entree I still have to wait 30 - 45 minutes before drinking, correct? Last question...Where is the freckin rule book and how to I get one? Seriously, Angie you bring up so many things that I have no other reference to and I really need a rule book (Because I am typical Capricorn that does not know how to have fun without the rule book on having fun). Okay, if none exist that means you and I are officially business partners (we will bring Shelby in too) and we are going to get one published! Anyone reading this is not allowed to steal my idea
  24. I PMed you. Your boyfriend is right the train is so much easier then driving.

  25. I just have some questions that I have been obsessing over and analyzing backwards, forwards, and upside down (do the hoakie poakie and you turn yourself around...) I am hoping someone can help me with this. I understand that you cannot drink 30 minutes before or after a meal but... 1. Does this apply to the non-restiction, non-fill phase? 2. What if I have a salad and tomato soup for lunch? Does this mean I have to wait 30 minutes after I have had my salad to sip my tomato soup???? (I am a soup junkie so this is very important for me to know) 3.What if all I have for dinner is a bowl of soup (non-chunky) and nothing else Does that mean I have to wait 30 minutes before drinking water? 4. What about foods like cream of wheat, applesauce, jell-o, oatmeal...do I still wait 30 minutes? 5. Does it make a difference if the drink is hot or cold in terms of wait time? It seems like hot liquids would be okay. Thanks for your help on this
