  1. I just got banded on Monday and have a few questions that I hope to get answers about: 1. Is tomato juice or Clamato juice an acceptable juice to drink during the first two weeks? Not until you are on "full liquids". For the first like 7 days or so, you are on clear liquids only such as broth, juice, vitamin water, etc. Check your paperwork you got from Dr. Miranda, it has all the answers. 2. My incision sites are real itchy and tender. Is it okay to rub some cream on them (maybe Vitamin E cream)? Dunno, I just left it all alone, call OCC and ask them to be sure. 3. Did anyone else have serious gas the first few days? What can I do about it? Yes, and the best thing to do is walk around. Everytime I felt it I got up and walked around and then had a serious burp. This helped the gas go away within a couple weeks and I never got the shoulder pain. 4. How did everyone get fiber during the first two weeks? I probably didn't get any. But I think you can take some kind of fiber supplement... Dr. Miranda can help you with this.
  2. How is it going? You have lost so much.. I think you need some before and after shots!

  3. I never do this, but I HAVE been keeping track of my food on the My Fitness Pal website, so I thought I would post it on here once or twice. This is my plan for the day, I always put it all in when I know what I am having, and then make changes after the fact if it changes. Breakfast Tyson - Frozen Chicken Nuggets - Baked, 2.5 piece Grapefruit - Pink Grapefruit , 1/2 raw Betty Crocker - Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownie, 0.7 brownie Lunch Fish - Tuna, white, canned in water, drained solids, 1 can Kraft - Miracle Whip (Light), 4 tbsp (16g) Iceburg Lettuce Leaf, 3 leaves Dinner Crock Pot - Homemade Beef Chuck Roast With Potatoes & Carrots, 475 g Snacks Fruit - Banana -Medium, 1 whole Kroger Brand - Roasted Peanuts and Honey - Peanut Butter, 2 tbsp Totals 1,296 calories
  4. The port is placed in your muscle, so you may have pain for some time. As an example, I had my surgery on February 22 and just recently have felt like the pain may be gone. The pain wasn't constant, but it would hurt when I moved around in certain ways, lifted myself off the couch or out of bed, etc. It lasted a long time and I even asked Dr. Ortiz just to make sure it was normal. He told me as long as there is no swelling or discoloration, then it is all part of the healing process. You may still have swelling though since you are just recently out of surgery. But yes, port pain is normal for awhile.
  5. How exciting for you! This is a really exciting time, and yes have a last meal if you want, I did and LOVED it!! It is a very nice treat in between the pre-op and post-op diets.
  6. Sounds like a scary visit. 2cc is pretty low for a first fill, I just had mine and got 4cc, my doctor doesn't do more than 4cc on the first fill, so who knows if I could have had more. I am happy she is being cautious and seems to be VERY smart about it all, but yours seems like they don't know what they are doing... I would definitely call back and see if you can get more, but maybe a different doctor would be a better idea...
  7. I have been curious since I first saw this topic on how you pronounce Doga, lol. Is it like the same way as "yoga" or do you say "dog-a". Just curious!!
  8. The only thing that seemed different for me was that I paid a $500 deposit when I booked my surgery. The remaining balance I didn't pay until I arrived there the day of my surgery, and I handed over my cashier's check for the rest.
  9. Sounds great, wish I could return to OCC for my fills, but I will just have to see how good my doctor here is! Hopefully you get some restriction from this fill, but don't be discouraged if you don't, I think that is totally normal.
  10. I have always heard that eating right is 75% of weight loss and working out is 25%. Not to say working out isn't great for OTHER reasons, but as far as weight loss, I have always heard that what you eat helps more when trying to lose weight. But, I know that I won't look that great unless I work out, also, so I am not trying to justify not working out!
  11. I think everyone is different, but from what I have heard from people online is 3-5 seems to be typical. Dr. Ortiz said 2-3 if you go back to them, I would love to go back to them but can't afford that so all mine will be done without flouroscopy. This may mean I have more in the long run, but I don't really have any choice in the matter, so I am ok with it. I am hoping to get it done by 4!
  12. Congrats! We plan on having a baby later on in about a year.. so this is exciting! Dr. Miranda told me that I should get an unfill towards the beginning of the pregnancy. She said it is best since there might be morning sickness and stuff like that. Also, later on in the pregnancy you need to eat a little more so that the baby can get some of the calories and start growing. Just make sure it is ok to keep your fill, you don't want to deprive the baby of the extra food you should eat while pregnant.
  13. The best idea would be to talk to Dr. Miranda, she can tell you exactly what you can/cannot eat. I did exactly what the plan said, protein DRINKS, not bars. I did not have any yogurt, it was not on the plan. Only 2 protein shakes a day and 1 Lean Cuisine meal for dinner. If I got hungry, I made a salad of green lettuce and a very small amount of mushrooms and used the spray dressing. Those are all allowed on the plan, but nothing else. But, you should really call Dr. Miranda and talk to her about these questions.
  14. My experience is mostly from OTHERS, as I have not had my first fill yet. My mom is a couple months ahead of me, so I have watched her progress closely. Do I tell the Dr. My band size and request the amount of saline I want injected? I requested the surgery paperwork from Dr. Ortiz and that is what I am supposed to bring to my first fill, I am also getting a blind fill for my first one. Just get the paperwork (they email it within a day or so) and bring that in. How do they determine the right amount of restriction if they cant see how it is affecting the band? I don't know about all doctors, but mine is really good and actually listens to the band or liquid or something, I don't know! My mom has gone to her and that is where my info is from. She has done it so much, she can tell, but also you take drinks and see how it goes down. How long after the fill do I have to wait until I can determine if the restriction is appropriate? I think everyone is different, some feel it quickly, some say it takes a week to feel it, I don't think there is any amount of time set in stone. Just wait a couple week before you determine if it isn't clear at first. How long do have to wait in between fills? Not sure if there is a rule about this, my mom has gone as little as like a week and a half in between 2 of her fills because she felt nothing.
  15. I am setting it up to record.. hopefully I won't have any other shows recording at that time!
  16. As far as I know, yes, you still have to do your part with diet and exercise in order to lose weight. I am in the same boat, I don't like exercise, but I am going to start it this week and see how it goes!
  17. For anyone who has netflix, they have a bunch of workout videos you can rent. I took this route since I am super poor right now, but I do have netflix, so it was a free (sort of?) path for me. I put one on there and should get it soon and will start trying to do different ones 3-4 times a week. I am not much of an exerciser, so that is what I will start with and see what happens.
  18. Baby steps in the right direction is sometimes all we can do! Good job for making the tough decision... I have had to do that as well at times.
  19. Weird.. I guess because I was just a teenager I didn't really talk to anyone who knew anything about it, so I never really knew. I can't think of anything that goes right through me. Maybe I am lucky.
  20. I haven't heard of that and also have never noticed any problems.. I don't think? I have had mine out for so long that maybe I don't know if there was ever a difference before?
  21. 8cc, sounds like you are getting close. I am anxious to see how this fill is for you after a week or so.
  22. I know how you feel. When I was in high school, I started getting these pains, too. I had no idea what they were but one time it got so bad, my mom took me to the emergency room and we ended up scheduling a surgery to have my gallbladder removed, and so I have been gallbladder-free since high school! The pain was HORRIBLE, and everyone does say it is worse than child birth, which makes me happy about my future in child birthing, lol. I had 3 scars from my surgery, but 2 of them faded so much you couldn't even see them, and the other one you really had to be looking for to notice it! When I decided to get lap band surgery, I also thought about all the scars I would have on my belly, lol A total of 8! But, like I said, the older ones have faded so much, so I am hoping these ones do the same! I am glad you got through it, I know how horrible it can be!!!
