  1. VickyR - Wanted to check on you to see how your surgery went and how your daughter is doing with it.
  2. KBOMB - if I had to do it all over again I would have jumped at the opportunity when I was 17. You are still young enough to lose the weight without worrying about the extra skin. My mother also had GB surgery, although hers was done over 15 years ago and no hers was not a smooth process. I had the banding done on August 27th 2007 and I have been extremely pleased with the results. Dr. Ortiz was my surgeon, the trip was smooth, and the care down at OCC was amazing. No doubt in my mind in a heart beat I would do it all over again. I have lost 14lbs since the surgery, waiting for my first fill, with a total weight loss of 34lbs. There is always the battle with the mental hunger everyday but you would have that with the GB surgery in my opinion that is the hardest part of the whole process. Battling the demons that make you eat in the first place, the band is nothing more than a tool that will help you control how much you eat. I would take my own children to Dr. Ortiz if they battle childhood obesity that is how much I believe in the procedure and my surgeon. kiedas26
  3. Hello, I am going to put my two cents in here because I was that daughter whose mother had a gastric bypass when I was 15 (I am now 32). I felt the same at the time that it wasn't fair that my mom was cheating with her weightloss, etc. Seventeen years later I came to realize when I looked at a picture of myself after having my first child that I looked exactly like my mother had right before her surgery. In those 16 years after her weightloss she would approach me about the surgery because she was worried for my health. I told her each time that I will do it on my own and I wasn't ready to make the surgical step. I did lose a large amount of weight 2 separate occasions and then put it back on. I think a large part of your daughters opinion is due in part to her level of maturity and the fact that she has to make that decision for herself if she wants the surgery. Do the surgery for yourself and don't look back your daughter will be happy for you in the end because it will make you a happy and healthier mother!! I am so happy that my mother had her surgery when she did because she is still around she got to see her grandson being born and I still have my mother. When your daughter is ready to face her weight issues she will face them and make whatever choice that is right for her at the time. Good luck in your journey to being that happy and healthier mother!! Kiedas26
  4. I am scheduled on the 27th for my surgery I started my pre-op weightloss and have dropped 13.5lbs (which is what I am supposed to lose) but I am trying for at least 18 just to make sure they don't turn me away at the door. I can't even put into words how excited I am for my next life changing step. I to have been on the forever roller coaster, could explain my fear of roller coasters . Don't remember a time when I didn't weigh over 250lbs. Oh I think I was 180 at the end of grade school. My husband is accompanying me we are leaving our two kids my adorable step-daughter 4 years old and my 1st son 8 months old with their grand parents in Utah. So not only am I looking forward to the surgery but the three days of a full night's sleep that go with it...I hope. Well hope to see you there Danielle! Have a safe trip. Jen
