Joyful Overcomer
Hi everyone. I really like reading the November thread, but my surgery is December First so I thought I would just start a new one. Anybody else going in December? Steph Hi Steph! This is the first time I have been on a forum, but here goes! Yes, I'm scheduled for banding in December, the 11th. I am so excited I can hardly wait! I made my appointment on Monday - November 20th. Just tonight I finally got everything together enough to fax it in to OCC...My plane confirmation, my deposit confirmation, and all the other 19 pages I had to sign and initial! I turned 50 in August and just now feel like I'm getting to live! I'll keep you posted on my way to thin! And by the way, you will be in very good hands on the day of your surgery....Dr. Ortiz and God!
CalKev
Joyful Overcomer, Love your screen name! What a great moniker to start the Lapband journey. Congratulations on your surgery plans with Dr. Ortiz. Welcome to the board. Please keep us up to date on how you are doing. When I was in your shoes looking forward I was a little rattled thinking of my first surgery ever and it helped tremendously to read others posts on their experiences to help ease my jitters. If I had known it was more like going on a mini-holiday than a hospital stay it would have helped. Best wishes on your Dec. 11 stay in TJ! Heres to you and your time"to live" attitude. BabyGotBack
Hello! I am considering a December date. Why are there not many in December? It I can't get the date in December, I will schedule in January. Dr. Ortiz sounds like he has a lot of happy clients out there. I have not heard anything bad. Only one person that said she only lost 7 pounds in one year, but if you go back for fills, how can you only lose 7 pounds? Audree

Audree [/quote Hello Audree; I am going to TJ in December only it's for a fill, I was banded October 16 which was a very pleasant experience. Try not to worry because they have every thing under control like a smooth swiss watch. The only pboblems I had was being a little sore I have lost 22 pounds which may not seem alot to some of you but I have been carrying this extra 100 lbs for the last 50 years of my life. I have had a few problems with not eating slow enough and drinking water to soon. We all at one point make an error and usually we don't make it again. Hope all goes well for you any questions you have let me know and I will get back to you. take care Lynn
lynnvabch
#-o HI I'M HAVING SURGERY ON THE DEC 1 I CANT TO GET TO START NEW LIFE.I ALWAYS BEEN OVERWEIGHT. Welcome to the group my name is lynn and I was banded on Oct 16 by Dr.Ortize what a wonderful soul he has knows what he is doing and does it extremely well. I have lost 22 pounds and it feels great I have diabetes and I had to do something. My insurance company would have paid for Gastric Bypass but I didn't want to go that route,to invasive. I think the only problem I am having now is my energy level is very very low. I need to start taking something to help that. You hang in there and I know what your saying when you say I have always been overweight cause thats me to. So stsrt your new life with Dr Otize, and I don't think the rest of your life will be a problem. Good Luck Lynn

My name is Debbi and I am scheduled for surgery this Thursday, December 14th. My flight brings me into San Diego tomorrow evening. I'm curious about some 'silly' things as I'm travling alone... 1. Is there a safe place to keep my personal belongings (wedding band, etc) while I am in surgery. 2. How much cash will I need while I'm in Tijuana? I know the hotel is paid for but incidentals like bottled water or whatever I will need to drink/eat. 3. Should I tip the person who picks me up/drops me off at the airport? 4. Should I exchange money or are US dollars okay? Thanks! Debbi
Steph
Hi. Let me first answer your questions. 1. I didn't wear any jewelry. Although you have a room at the hospital, there is nowhere to lock anything. I didn't have anything taken out of the hospital room, but I did have a couple of items taken from the hotel room. As a rule, I don't bring anything that I'm not prepared to lose. 2. I only brought $100 and still had money left over when I got home. 3. I did tip the driver a $1 even though I had heard that you didn't have to. 4. You don't need to exchange your money. Everyone takes US dollars. Don't be nervous. But if you are travelling alone--like I did--you should know that they will check you out the morning that you go to the hospital to save on the room charge for the night. That's a pain in the butt. If you have someone with you they will pay for the night, though. Good luck...

Debbi Hi Debbie, Kyle and I will probably see you back at the Hotel if you go down to the resturant. We will be staying on the 15th, flying into San around 7:30pm and you will probably be released on the 15th. Our fill is on the 16th. If you spot us, feel free to come up to us, especially since you are alone. My son is 15, dark hair, streaked blonde, and I too have dark hair. Blessings to you with your surgery, your in good hands. Teri PS: To address your questions: Since my wedding ring cost as much as my car, I decided to leave it with my jewelers to have it checked over, since it was going to take a few days to get back anyway, worked out great!. The Hotel has bottled water in the room, and also at the resturants you can buy. We did tip everyone, generously, if you can afford to, it makes thier day. We took U.S. $, but they take credit cards everywhere. Pack light, sweats, and a jacket, it will be chilly.
cyndiwilson
I agree with Teri on leaving the wedding ring home - last time I checked Teri were you not driving that convertible mercedes that must be a huge rock on your hand "JUST KIDDING" I left all jewelry at home - I never noticed anything missing in the hotel room - but my friend refused t let them in to clean she took our towels out and did tip them well to keep us in bottled water - I took 100.00 to buy medication while down there but kept everything in small dollars - they see the big dollars they will not bargain as well TEE HEE- I wore sweats while i was there we couldn't get the heat to work in our room and since it wasn't to drastically cold I slept in the sweats and wore a windbreaker around town when I went for a walk - take a heating pad with you - they have a chair in the hotel room that I slept in most of the time and laid it across my belly and it eased teh pain and just felt good -----good luck on yur journey ----

No, not the convertible mercedes, not yet anyway, Ward DID say if I lose the weight he would buy me one!!!!!!!!!!!! That was suppose to be my motivation for losing weight before I had the surgery, it didnt work. Since I'm not a car person. Although, he did splurge last year, and bought me a 4 and 1/4 carat!!!!! Am I spoiled or what!!! Life is good!!!!!!! Teri
