DanR
A number of people have expressed concerns about traveling to Mexico. I did some research and I will be cautious, but I am not concerned. However, my family is still concerned, so I created an OCC Info Sheet in case of emergency. It contains a map which shows the location of OCC and Hotel Lucerna as well as contact information. It also contains US Consulate information. The OCC Info Sheet is a PDF and you can download it from: http://www.fathomservices.com/occinfo.pdf It might also be a good idea to register your trip with the US Department of State at: https://travelregistration.state.gov

DanR
Thank you Dan!BTW, how did you create that cool facebook link? The Facebook link is called a "Profile Badge." To create your own, go to Facebook and click on the Profile tab. You should see a link in the left column (toward the bottom) that says, "Create a Profile Badge." DanR
Thank you for the tech tip. I can't quite figure out what codes to use for it to work on my sig here but I'll keep trying. I'm sorry, Robbyn... I forgot that I had to edit the code Facebook gave me to make it work here. Below is the code I used in my signature, so look at the code they gave you and replace the two lines that start with "http://" with similar ones from your code (unless you want my badge in your signature). Let me know if you have any more problems. JenniferJS
Hi there I registered my trip back in January and also prepared a contact/info sheet for my family I was leaving behind. I think most do. I didn't think to share this info so bless you for doing so! It will be helpful for those with upcoming travels. A number of people have expressed concerns about traveling to Mexico. HappyGirl
Hi! I just returned home today from TJ. I got my very own band on Wednesday, March 25!!!!! I'm so happy!!! My husband and I stayed at the Marriott and it was fabulous!!! My husband said that the food at the hotel was great (and I can honestly say that the cranberry juice and coffee was wonderful!!) He also ate at a restaurant that looks like a big sombrero and it was so good, he went back for dinner the second night. We did the tourist thing on Thursday....went to Revolution Street and to the Plaza Rio which is a little shopping center. Had fun window shopping. We had family that was also concerned and let me say that I felt completely safe!! Be sure to ask the cabbies what they charge for running you around BEFORE you get in the car. We ended up with the taxi drivers from the Marriott dropping us off and then returning a couple hours later to pick us up. Charged $5.00 both ways which wasn't bad considering the distance. We also checked out the Tijuana Cultural Center. Saw two trucks carrying Federales with machine guns and masks over their faces (the news said that is so any of the bad guys wouldn't recognize them on their off time). I believe that you can find trouble if you look hard enough anywhere you may roam. I wish the best for you in April!! Assure your family that you will be safe. The folks at the OCC are wonderful...just like everyone has said. I just want to add that my surgery went very well. The only problem I ended up having was a bit of, well.....constipation - eeekkkk! I went into a pharmacy for some assistance so now am fine. I know, TMI! Now is the time to add something cute and sparkly.....but I don't know how! Great job with the info sheet. I was wondering, could you put the Marriott on there? I would love to send this to my people. I think they would feel more at ease with a wealth of info. I typed up the info, but you put a visual twist on it. Angie

DanR
Dan.. how is your recovery going? I'm on day 6 post op and better than I thought. Would love an update. ~laura Laura, I'm doing great! It's been 17 days since my surgery and I couldn't be better. Any mild discomfort I had from the surgery was mostly gone within a few days and completely gone after a week. I have followed the post-op diet to the letter. It hasn't been too bad... especially after the addition of cream soups. I'm looking forward to solid foods again on Monday. I don't like to weigh myself everyday because the ups and downs can be discouraging, but I'll weigh myself at the end of the post-op diet and I'll weigh myself when I go for my first fill. After that, I'll probably weigh once a week. I'm already wearing new, smaller clothes and giving away old, bigger clothes! How are things going for you? Dan Just a reminder,, those of you that give your old bigger clothes away need to keep an itemized record. You can write off your surgery, transportation, etc, and those clothing donations on next years income tax. Most places that receive donated clothes have a printed guideline you can use to come up with a value on your donated clothes. Everything helps when it comes to taxes. Dolittle
I always get receipts for my donations, but I didn't think about deducting my surgery. Thanks for the tip! You can deduct anything that pertains to your lapband surgery that you paid out of pocket. Like the surgery,, transportation, tolls, milage to and from the airport, airfare, everything, LOL. Plus fills and etc. Many forget to count your regular medical stuff that you pay for during the year. Like office calls, the co-pays, dental, vision and any meds. It all adds up! I'm doing good on my 7th day post-op. I thought it would be harder than I thought but with the band just sitting there... it already gives restriction. I'm sure when I get closer to the first fill, I'll be thinking differently and my appetite will be back. Congrats and keep us posted. ~laura
