Jacklynrae
I am 2 weeks away from my one year bandiversary and am sooo confused/frustrated/grateful, so an entire mesh of emotions. I have lost 48 pounds in my year of having the band (but have been stuck at my current weight for about a month) and have really been able to transform my life and put more of a focus on eating much better and exercising more. I have grown to love exercise and hate fast food and see these as all positive effects of my band, however I am soooo frustrated and confused with all the hard work and good choices I am making only got me down 48 pounds. I have gained muscle and am doing everything to keep my days consistent on the calorie front but just wanted to make a much bigger dent in my weight loss. While after visiting with my trainer and doing body composition testing I have decided to only lose about 30 more pounds but I just want to see the results I wanted when I started this journey and don't understand why I can't be one of the "lucky" ones who lost so much weight in the first year. I don't mean to be such a negative nelly but I'm just so frustrated and need a little encouragement and/or advice. I'm trying to change my attitude and live my life making better choices but just want to see the results by now, especially with summer coming up! Thanks for listening to me whine, Jacklyn

robbynnoel
(((((((((((((Jacklyn)))))))))))) Big hugs to you! Congrats on your pending anniversary. You've lost a small toddler! The life changes you've made with the band have not been easy and you've accomplished so much. Think about the last time in your life you've lost 48 lbs in a single year (for one) and maintained that loss. There are some very knowledgeble posters on this board who have experienced a journey similar to yours, you've posted to the right place. Hugs. BTW when you hit 50 I'll send you the "Hawaii Five 0hhh" wav file so you'll be able to do your victory dance! That will be fun and it's a catchy, motivating tune. xo
robbynnoel
http://www.bigbob.com/five-o/hmusic.html I thought I'd post it early for you. This way you can listen and get pumped up now! Buy some plastic flower leis and wear them but don't tell your friends why. See if they can guess. xo
vangirl
I too wish I was one of the lucky ones who lost a lot of weight in their first year. So I really empathize! I wish I knew what to say to encourage you, as I feel like I'm in the same boat. I know that what has helped me not give up (apart from spending all this money) and stay motivated and on the course is taking stock of the Non Scale Victories: being able to fit into clothes I haven't worn in five years, being able to poke around and feel bones I haven't felt before, being off my diabetic medication since the surgery (a huge NSV for me), being more flexible, being able to walk faster, living life in a healthier way than I did before, etc. From the beginning of your post, it sounds like you have already been taking stock of your NSV's, which are no small victories. Good luck with your journey! -vangirl

It can be really frustrating. I keep doing what I am supposed to do & think one day my body is going to catch up and drop a lot in one week....... Everyone is different. I was banded in October and I am down 45 lbs. Other people were banded that same month and are already down 55-60. It is important not to compare your weight loss to others. And, Lord knows that normally I would have already started gaining weight & lost interest in a "diet". This truly changes your life! I now feel in control. Though it may be coming off slow (for now) atleast it is not creeping back up! Just wanted to say Thanks for positive words...... ValleyGirl
Ditto Dana! My eating was getting OUT OF CONTROL before getting banded in December. Since then I have made it through the holidays and two seperate vactaions and have LOST weight! Not as much as I hoped I would but I'm certain without the band, I would have gained another ten pounds at least. I, too, feel like I am in control again. Just the fact that I've been able to kick my drive-thru habit is huge. They are baby-steps but they are steps in the right direction. Sabrina:) Robbyn, Thanks for the encouragement this morning! Jacklynrae
Thank you all for your support and I know that deep down all of you are totally right. I am going to just hide my scale and put a focus on feeling good and doing what is right instead of the numbers. It's very hard not to compare myself to all of you wonderfully successful people on the forum but I know that maybe my change in attitude will help me stop stressing over the number and get back to living. Thanks for all your words of wisdom! Jacklyn
tlag
Hey Jacklyn I don't know if you remember me, but we were banded the same day. I too have been alittle discouraged, but am happy I have lost weight. Since the band I am down 57 pounds. I was hoping to be at my goal weight by now, but.............it didn't happen. Like some of the other girls have said, we need to be happy we are not where we were a year ago. We have lost a signifant amount. Good luck and keep up the good work! iamworthit
First off, congratulations on the 48 lbs. That is fantastic! I just want to say that you have reached a really great goal in a year. That is almost 1 lb per week. In my opinion that is success defined! When ever in your life have you been able to achieve losing 1 lb a week over the course of a year? For me, never. I have to constantly remind myself of that fact because I too am a slow loser. I complain often but when I look at the big picture it really is amazing. Go pick up two 25 lb dumbells and carry them around all day long and tell me you haven't achieved something! Anyway, I am really proud of you and you should be glad to have reached your first goal. Now, keep plugging away and you can do anythng you put your mind to! Take care! 2fat4me
It is truely bitter sweet. I am approaching my 1 year (April 7). I am donw about 38 #. I am glad to be down but I am a bit dissappointed too. My band currently has nothing - zero in it for the second time in this past year. And I am eating like a pig. It has been so long since I have lost anything I am really having big doubts I will reach my goal weight. The whole experience seems to be slapping me in my face. But not to take away from you, keep on losing kiddo!

2fat4me
WEll it's like this...Twice my band has contricted my gut to the point of no passage. And when that happens, you can't even swallow your on saliva. I would literally wake up choking because it wouldn't go down. I will be going to a new Dr. in April to get my 3rd "first" fill. The OCC said it was just too much in my band...
