pieinsky
so is anyone else out there addicted to the show "what-not-to-wear"? i discovered this show flipping channels one day. reruns are broadcast a 6pm daily on TLC. i feel i have learned a lot about how to dress to look put together vs dressing to hide your body. the two hosts take a fashion victom and basically show her the errors of her wardrobe before setting her free to shop in new york with $5,000.00 . she also gets her hair and makeup done before she comes out in her new outfits at the end of the show. the guidance and tips the hosts give are general enough to be applied by anyone. when i finally went shopping recently, i found myself critiquing the clothes i tried on with those tips running thru my head. they actually gave me a starting point on how to dress my changed body. also, i have never been any good at putting outfits together. i am curious as to how other bandsters have handled the drastic changes to your body shape/size? did you already have an established style that you were comfortable with and just needed to buy smaller sizes? or have you been experimenting with new style options as your body has shrunk? nothereanymore
I have totally changed my style, from my hair to my toes. I hid under my clothes, at a tight size 22 there was no way I wanted people to see me so I tried to dress in a manner that would not draw attention to me. I also had a hard time putting on shoes, and could not wear heels so I wore slip on shoes most of the time (no heel) My hair is cut close to my face, (I use to use my hair to hide my triple chin), longer with layers, more updated and I get my nails and toes done. I dress age appropriate, but I do have fun, my clothes are tighter – I’ve worked hard for this size 4/6 body and I’m showen it off! (The top is still an 8 – I’m good with that). I tuck in my shirts and wear belts (didn't do that for years). I’m much more in tuned with style, and often watch the same show and take learning’s from it. I got more into make-up, taking care of my skin and making sure I exercise so I look good. I’m proud of how I look and it shows. I never thought I could wear rich and skinny or seven jeans (I have to buy 29’s in those guys) and I don’t wear the “mommy” pants or high wasted – low wasted all the way with no muffin showing. And I almost always wear high heels, since my knees don’t hurt anymore from the extra weight I can wear them with no problem…. And my feet shrunk from a tight size 10.5 and my feet were wide and fat to a very nice can fit any shoe size 9.5. I work out now consistently and love my lululemon clothes; they are an investment I made in myself and feel great about wearing (size 4 in my yoga clothes....) I'm having lots of fun, but its OK, I wasted years being morbidly obese!

I love that show too. I wish someone would nominate me. I also wait for a chubby episode so I can help myself. I am not brave enough to do all the bold colors. Smiley
I saw this show for the first time the day of my surgery. I watched it while waiting to be taken into surgery and then again after I got back to my room. I told one of my best friends that I wanted her to nominate me for the show once I got to my final weight/size. I did not necessarily agree with all of the outfits they suggested, but I did notice they let you buy some things before they step in and "correct" you. So, I am thinking even if they don't agree with my choices I could at least get a few things bought before being corrected. Cleaning out my closet would take no time at all because all of those clothes are already boxed up and waiting for a spring garage sale. Have fun during this time and go into various stores and try on anything and everything whether it catches your eye or not. You might find some new styles that you never would have dreamed of. It doesn't cost anything to try stuff on and in my book as long as I am moving I am exercising and burning calories. Take some pictures in these outfits and ask your close friends what they think about the look. I was doing this the other night and discovered that 3 out of the 4 size 12's that I tried on fit, which means I now think I have to get rid of all the 14's and start buying 12's. However, I am going to try to hold off until I figure out the plastic surgery thing in hopes that I might be able to jump from a 14 to a 10, at which point I am done losing and ready to maintain for life. BTW - I also watched the Redneck Wedding show on my surgery day. I am definitely a country girl and appreciate things to do with camo, hunter orange, guns and hunting/fishing, but give me a break. Even though my friends know this about me I have no intent of giving them the opportunity to link my name/image with that show.
