CanadianBandster
So - I "was" one of those people who hardly ever got sick - maybe once every two or three years and just a little cold (with exception of flu twice in my life). Since being banded in Dec though....I just started my THIRD cold, plus I have had an ear infection and (warning TMI) TWO yeast infections (which I have never had even one before). WHAT THE HELL. I said to my husband last night - hm, do I want to be fat and never sick or skinny and have colds all the time....grrrrrr what could I be lacking?? Im taking a multivitamin and vitamin C and calcium. Can I go to the doctor and ask her to test me to see if Im deficiant in something or do they do that? Its starting to get on my nerves and Im tired of making my husband and kids sick. PLUS - I have to get this figured out or their is no way I can get plastic surgery in May (maybe) if I cant fight off infection.

It could just be the season too. Or your body is reacting to the weight loss? Don't know. I had my blood/urine checked before I went to Cosmed and I was relieved to see everything was good. Maybe do it now so that if something is amiss you can handle it now?
CanadianBandster
yah - Im going to get it all checked. My doctor originally said my body just has to catch up to the weight loss and this is normal - but its not normal for me, so I wanted it fixed. Loving the grape flavored chewable vitamin c lol
Lindsay
Yeah, it definitely sounds like your immune system is being challenged. A full blood panel should answer some of those questions for you. Being female, there are so many little things that can effect our immune systems. From low zinc, to low potassium. fatfreeme
First of all I want you to know that I am NOT a medical professional. What I say has no medical wherewithall. That being said, our digestive tract is a key to immunity. Have you thought about taking so probiotics to regulate your digestive track and repopulate it with good bacteria? Just a thought. Best of luck to you!
wendyh
I found your post very interesting. I was banded on March 9, flew home on the 12th and started to get sick during the trip. Two weeks later I am just starting to feel better. I coughed so much I was afraid my band would slip off. Late this past week my doctor did send me for blood work. I hope I can stay healthy for a while. I really crave comfort food (macaroni and cheese) when I am sick. Im hope you figure out what is causing you to catch illnesses so easily. Please post any information you learn about what might be causing this and I will let you known what I find out about my bloodwork. Take care.....Wendy
julieburns
I've had my band since June of last year. I started getting sick late december and to date have had shingles, pneumonia, kidney stones with a hospitalization, and then strep throat. My band was extremely tight so I had a complete unfil in hopes of getting back to being able to eat healthy foods to help my immunity system. I am sure there is a connection between my illnesses and my band.

You also have to remember that your digestive system is 70% of your immune system. Get on some Activia, some other form of pro-biotic for about 3 weeks, you'll notice a vast improvement. Usually I'll be sick 3-4 times by this time of year, but since I started on active culture yogurts, I've not been sick for more than a few days, and it was just sniffles, and general crappy feeling. nothereanymore
We don't eat much, so what we do eat needs to be high quality, good for you foods. Make sure you're taking your vitamins and supplements, here's a questionnaire to help you understand what you should take. It has the option to print to bring to your local store, so you don't have to buy online. https://www.drweil.com/drw/ecs/Va2/home.htm...;aparam=gateway We can be healthy and eat less; we just need to make sure we’re taking care of ourselves and eating right. Otherwise it is hard for us to fight the germs, and one thing I’m a freak about now is washing my hands, and making sure I don’t touch my face when I’m out with my hands – its how we spread the germs.
