I will be honest and say i am a food sneak. Only because i have always battled with an eating disorder. I have had both anorexia and overweightness like now. This is all cause of everyine in my life over analysing what i eat and sometimes you just have to get away from that, is this similar with you?

Feel free to PM me if youd like to talk more about it. Stay strong and know your not alone at all!

Angie,

I agree you have gotten some really great advise. I too choose your pre-op diet and I can honestly say I did not think I would EVER be able to stick with it. I too decided to start a little early. I was on the pre-op diet for 17 days and lost 16 pounds. I lost 10 lbs the first week and 4 pounds the second week and another 2 the last three days. After seeing that I lost 10 lbs the first week, it was down hill from there.

I was SO scared to cheat. I was afraid that I would get to Mexico and they would not do my surgery. I think that was the biggest fear and what kept me on track! Someone told me if I could get through the first three days of the diet and not cheat I would be ok. It worked. The first three days was AWEFULL!! I was hungry and was not nice to be around...lol

I have a couple of suggestions for you to try. First try sticking to ONLY your shakes, your greens and your meal at night for three days in a row with no cheating. It will be HARD but I promise its not so bad after that. Second, I found a protien shake (I HATED PROTIEN SHAKES) that I really like and it was VERY HIGH in protien which kept me from being hungry. It is Max Protien Chocolate from GNC. The last thing I would suggest is take 1 or 2 fiber pills at 9 in the morning and again at 3 in the afternoon and one chromium pill a day. The fiber pills helps SO much with the hunger pains, TRULEY, and the chromium seemed to give me just a little boost of engery throughtout the day, did not feel so BLAH. :(

Good Luck and hang in there. It is all worth it..

Carrie - Yesterday, Saturday, was the first "weekend day" that I was able to stick to my diet. During the week, I feel like I do a okay job. Then comes the weekend, and it's like I gaze all darn day. So, I put some structure to my day. I made shopping plans with a girlfriend, took my son to see the Easter Bunny, and spend time cleaning and doing laundry. That really helped me out. When I got home I was STARVING so I quickly cleaned some greens and viola! Then a bit later I fixed my lean cuisine. After posting on the forum about my cheats and lies, I got excellent feed back and it empowered me to snap out of my obbssession with food. I feel like I can loose the weight now and not feel stressed about getting there and having them say, "Sorry you didn't loose enough for the surgery. As of this morning I am down a 10 lbs.!!!! I have 5 more to go! I am so glad I talked about my struggle because everyone gave me a good push to do the right thing!

I haven't been taking my Chrom on the weekends, because I leave it at work. I am bad about taking fiber on the weekends to! So I think that plays a part in my struggle. I will take your suggestions! Thanks for being so supportive!

Let me first start out by saying I feel like a failure. :( I am two weeks out from having surgery, and I am bombing on my pre-op diet. I choose diet number 2. Which is 2 shakes, and a lean cuisine meal. I can have all the greens I want and FF jello as a snack.

I just scheduled my surgery and as it's for the end of April, I also needed to get onto the pre-op diet. I hated all 3 choices so I called my contact at the

OCC and asked her what was the goal of the diet - to eat the foods in one of the 3 options OR to lose the pre-op weight. She said it was to lose the weight. So I figured that the foods could be my personal choice. I happen to really like cottage cheese, yogurt, and eggs so I've been eating those with the addition of an enormous green salad or plate of vegetables at dinner. I've also added small amounts of oil or sugar as needed. For example, instead of a half cup of olive oil with my salad, I add 1 tablespoon.

Anyway, why not pick your own personal "diet" favorites as well and use them as a base.

I've started using some protein drinks also (mainly to increase my protein intake and reduce hunger) and as a suggestion the Spirutein brand is really good (I love the strawberry). Also, I use a blender to make the drink which produces a thick satisfying shake.

I started this program three days ago and have already lost 8 pounds.

Good Luck!

:lb4: All I want to say is, I am the same as you! I eat at night and cant stop! My pre-op diet was hard for me too. Im really not to sure what to tell you to stop as I am still struggling after my surgery! But I will say that the thought of my surgery being canceled if i didn't lose the weight made me buckle down! (I paid way to much to not have the surgery, flights hotels, the surgery itself!)

Your doing good, keep up the VERY HARD work!

Big hugs and lots of love,

Jenelle

I am like this too. I was a sneak eater (even though I live alone!) and would munch at nighttime especially. I still struggle with the cravings, and one of the things I have come to realize is that the work still continues even after the band. I too found that what got me through the pre-op diet (the hardest diet I've ever been on, I felt crazy the whole time) was the fear of my surgery being cancelled if I didn't lose the weight.

It's great that your husband is supportive and that you are telling people about it, because keeping it to yourself just feeds into the cycle of shame, guilt, and lying to others (and to self!), which is what makes many of us food sneaks. So that's a great step. And good idea to get rid of all the bad food in the house. I personally don't keep any cookies or munch foods at home because I know I'll eat it, but I'm fortunate in that I live by myself and so don't have to see other people eat stuff I can't have. When I did live with others, that was always a huge problem and would quickly get me off any diet that I was on.

EdieB - congrats on your 8 lbs.! Woo hoo! I wish I would have had your forethought. I was thinking the 2 shakes a day were to help shrink the stomach. So I figured I would pick the option with a little bit of food. Since I do not have knowledge of the Adkins for #1 I figured 2 was my best option. As #3 sounded not so fun to me either.

To my suprise I have adjusted well to drinking my first 2 meals. Doesn't seem to bother me one bit. I had not done the slimfast diet before so I had no idea it could be okay to do. I figured I would be hungry. I am down 10 and hoping to loose another 2-3 in the next 5 days. I don't have much time left!

Ah I wish I had some good wisdom but I was the same way! My pre-op diet started the day after Christmas when I was still visiting with family and leftovers and Christmas goodies were being shoved in my face every corner I turned! I did really good the first couple of days but then I would cheat or something. I honestly think I cheated almost every day (shame on me I know!) but I tried to at least make my cheats something relatively healthy like string cheese or an egg at breakfast...

I lost 6 lbs initially but by the time I weighed in at Dr. Miranda's office I was only down 3! I was supposed to loose 12! Whoops, but she did not seem too concerned about it and I still got my surgery the day I was scheduled too.

My only advice is to not put too much pressure on yourself. Stress affects weight loss too so stressing over eating a snack could hurt you more than the snack itself in the long run! If you cheat you cheat, just do the best you can.

Good luck with your surgery! It is life changing!

Ok I'm really late coming to this topic... And haven't read through it just yet, But

Ya see My train of thought is They want to give me the band just as much as I want to PAY for it. Yeah we are to lose some weight, But I think if you lose any weight at all 3, 5, 7 pounds- In less you have some medical condition, They’re gonna Band you...

I know I'm being very bad thinking like this, but it's a business - I wonder just how many people they have turned away cause they only lost 5 pounds instead of 10

just using those numbers as an example..

I do plan on losing 8 pounds in a week - starving myself( Basically, 2 shakes and a lean cuisine sure sounds like I'll be starving), But lets face it we haven’t been all that successful in the past and we all need help in controlling amounts and types of food we stuff ourselves with...

I wouldn’t torment myself Angie, You are trying -

Lose the weight--I did not and my surgery was postponed---the embarrasment is not worth it! Have two shakes a day and water. Get on it, you do not wnat to go through the stress if you don't lose the weight or at least most of it. To lose weight fast take a diretic, call Dr. Miranda if you need too, she will give you some tips.

Good luck--it is all worth it in the end!

You lost NO weight at all? How much were you to lose?

Lisa - you are right, it is serious! I confessed my cheats to my husband last night. (After a fellow lap band friend made some suggestions I couldn't not take.) Doing so, was hard, but cheat food has sense been removed from the house. Jim my husband is my biggest supporter. I feel like I am back on track today. Which is a great feeling. I have 12 days to loose some more lbs. so all is not lost.

I am so blessed this forum is here. It is a weatlth of information and support! Thank you everyone who replied and gave me suggestions and support. What I can not do alone, we can do together!
