Advice on Bridesmaid dress

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

My sister is getting married June 27th of this year. I tried on my dress at the store about 3 weeks ago and the size 18 fit perfectly. Well I didn't want to pay a ton in alterations, so I ordered a 16. I figured that was pretty reasonable. well I got the dress in yesterday, and it zips perfectly through the hips and stomach, but when it gets to my upper back/chest, there is about a 4 inch gap between the zipper!!!

I had my 2nd fill and now I am at 3cc in my 4cc band. Ive lost about 9 pounds in the past 22 days since my fill... and I didnt work out the week of Easter or the week after so it was pretty effortless to lose the weight. Now that I am back in the gym full time I am hoping it comes off quicker...

My question is, do you think I should return the dress and order the 18 and have it sized down if I need to or take my chances and just work hard to fit into this dress I have? I basically have 9 1/2 weeks left.

Is this too hard of a goal? I have always had huge boobs, i wear a 38DD now.... I dont want to get to the week of the wedding and not fit into the dress....but this is also GREAT motivation... it IS afterall my BABY sister getting marrried BEFORE me.... .not that I am bitter :)

Thanks for the help!

Christy

Granted, I hate them because I swear I can't breathe when I wear one, but have you tried minimizer bra? That might help the dress close a little bit in the back.

Would it be possible to go ahead and order an 18 just in case and then wait until a week or two before the wedding to decide which size you will need?

Can the 16 be let out in the bust?

No, I have to pay in advance for the dress before Davids Bridal will order it...they will re-order another size for me in exchange for the dress I have. My mother is coming to visit me on Friday, shes going to help me decide if its too much of a gap because of my chest.

I havent tried a bra minimizer but I do use Spanx!!! they are amazing :)

thanks :)

Hey there! I am in a very similar situation so here is my two cents...

I had to be sized in January for a wedding i'm in May 16th. I was really worried so the lady at the dress shop talked me through it. She asked me about my history of weight loss and I told her i've lost several times and that my goal is to be at about my lowest i've ever been by the wedding. She asked if when I lose weight if my chest ever gets smaller and I hadn't really thought of that. I've been as low as 150 and my boobs have never gotten smaller. I get smaller around of course, but not cup size. After telling her that she encouraged me to stick with the size I fit in at that time otherwise my dress might not fit at all and if they had to take the sides in they could.

Had my fitting about 2 weeks ago and i'm so glad I listened to her! It was loose around the middle and in the straps, but that is fixable. My boobs would have been shoving out the top if I would have bought the smaller dress. I lost almost 20 lbs between the fitting and the dress arriving.

Sorry, in a nutshell I would encourage you to stick with the dress they sized you at now. You can always have it taken in a bit. Or, you can get one of the bras like brides wear. That thing will suck you in good! Another wedding I was in I gained some weight and by the time the dress came it was realllly tight, but I had bought one of those bras and it sucked me in enough that the dress fit nicely.

OK sorry to ramble so much, but I swear the writers of the movie 27 Dresses based that off my life! I've been in a ton and have many more to go! :)

Good luck!

I can totally relate hun. This time last year I was really successful with my weight loss. I tried on a size 18 bridesmaid dress and a 16. The 16 fit but it was tight. Since I was motivated and on a roll, my mom and I decided to order the 16.

Well, the wedding was postponed and I ate like a pig. I haven't been banded yet...so I fell off the wagon. The dress was kind of a symbol of failure. The more I worried about it, the more I ate.

Flash forward to me going to the shop for the fitting. The dress didn't fit but it was too late to order a new one. They had to take it out 4 inches on both sides. Sigh.

Okay, so then I start the pre op. Yep...because my surgery was supposed to be immediately following the wedding and I go in for a fitting of the dress they added 8 inches to...

And it was too big, so they had to take out 2 inches on both sides.

I felt uncomfortable in the dress, the alterations were over 150 dollars but everyone else said I looked lovely. I wish I could figure out how to post a photo.

The short story is...either way everything will work out and you will look amazing!
