Watch those liquid calories!! Learn from my mistake.

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

When I went for my SIXTH fill last Thursday my fill doctor asked me about what kind of 'liquid calories' I was consuming. I was taken aback by his question and told him I really didn't think I was consuming too many calories in liquid form other than my daily protein shake (Worldwide Pure Protein Shake at 170 calories and 35 grams of protein) and my daily latte. Boy, was I wrong. Today, I started tracking my calories online and went in to enter my latte from earlier today. To my shock ( I know, I'm slow) I was drinking 350 calories and 6 grams of fat 3 or 4 times a week in my Starbuck's Grande Non-fat White Chocolate No-Whip Latte. Duh!! I started drinking coffee soon after being banded to help ease my diet coke addiction and now with this great restriction to loosen my band a little so I could get some protein in for lunch, but that is just crazy. I'm switching to a much better 130 calorie, 0 fat gram Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte. It still tastes great but with so many fewer fat grams and calories.

If anyone's interested in looking up a drink, here's the link

You put in your drink, the size, the milk type and if you drink it with whip cream or not. It's a pretty handy calculator.

Here's hoping for better results now that I've pulled my head out of the sand!!

those lattes and other fancy drinks are totally calorie packed. i've switched to Tall or Grande Americanos and add some non fat milk and splenda for my own healthier version of a latte. for a treat, i'll as for a kids sized non fat cocoa. it's only 8 oz and much less fat and calories than a fancier adult drink.

Great post!

Same here, I was a total Starbucks addict before surgery. I was drinking a grande white mocha with whip! 400 calories and $4 a day! Now my husband and I make coffee at home every morning and I add a little fat free french vanilla creamer for only 50 calories. I still treat myself to Starbucks every now and then but for the most part it is too sweet for me now!

IT'S NOW A KING COUNTY LAW HERE IN WASHINGTON STATE THAT THEY OFFER A CALORIE COUNT UP FRONT AT CHAIN RESTAURANTS. IT'S RIGHT THERE ON THE MENU BOARD NOW AT STARBUCKS

Thanks Pammie!

I knew about the new law when I went to Red Robin a few months ago (before sugery) and they asked if we wanted the nutritional guide along with our menus and told us it was a new law. We said no because we didn't actually want to know how bad we were being!!

I was at the Cheesecake Factory a month or so ago and found out that my beloved Thai Lettuce wraps (which seem to be one of the better things on the menu being lettuce, carrots and grilled chicken) were tipping the scales at over 1000 calories! I still got it just because I can't eat the whole thing anymore like I used to and oh man, it is so good!

I have used the Starbucks calculator on their website for a couple of years now, before surgery I didn't care how much I was drinking and when I used to do Weight Watchers I just factored it into my weekly points. Now I don't even go because I just don't want the calories!
