stormy
Ok probebly a dumb question but my dr who does my fills told me that since I am banded that no dr should ever do a scope on me. So that made me think, what if for some reason there was an emergency, like lets say this asthma that I have right now, what if all the sudden I can't breath. Would they still be able to put a tube down my throat? How would they know I have the band? I ask this because of what she said and because I have had breathing issues and I wonder how exactly this would be handled. How far would a breathing tube go how there? I am not a dr so I have no idea but she made it very clear that if I ever need to be scoped to tell them NO! Does anyone wear a bracelet that says they have the band? AngieB
I am ordering one and my friend who is banded has worn one for years. jhawkchick75
I think that is a great question! I don't, but I do have my card Dr. O gave us right in the front of my wallet by my drivers license. So hopefully if they went for ID they would see that. But I think the bracelet is a great idea too. Never can be too careful!
stormy
I found a really cool site that has them in fashion wear. They are very cute. http://www.laurenshope.com/products.aspx?catid=176 Appears they make them in all kinds of stones. I may just get one. I have some allergys to medications so I think that is good info too. Like they cant give me sulfa drugs. It says I can put that on it. Very cool. nursemom
Hey Stormy, I think this is a great question. Just to clarify, if you stop breathing and they put a tube down your throat, it is in your trachea. And if you would need as scope to look into your stomach, that would be in your espohagus. They are two separate areas (but close to one another). So, you could have a breathing tube and it wouldn't damage your band. I think a bracelet is a good idea if you don't mind wearing one. Since I haven't told anyone about being banded (except hubbie) I think about that same thing. GOOD LUCK!

I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS YEARS AGO AND FIGURED IF AN EMERGENCY CAME UP, AND I WASN'T BREATHING, DO WHATEVER IT TAKES BAND OR NO BAND
mona-camille
My sister who just had her band removed was scoped. Thats how they found out it eroded into her stomach. It was an endoscopy. Also, a breathing tube doesn't go in your stomach it goes down a different tube. I'm a little worried about what your fill doctor said. To say you shouldn't be scoped is really crazy. With the lap band, you really should get scoped yearly to make sure the band isn't eroded or any other problems. Besides, the tube that goes down there is smaller than your band so it will slip right through. Sorry, but I think your doctor is full of heffer dust! BUT>>>>>>>>nice to see you back here!! If you have been banded for two years or more, they recommend you have an endoscopy to check for erosion and stuff. If your ever in TJ for your fill, the OCC has a local TJ doctor that does endo and colonscopies. You'd have to email Rene at the OCC and see if its still available and what your out of pocket costs are.
