To fill or not?

Recommended Posts

OK I need your help! I am on the struggle bus and can't decide if I should schedule another fill or not. My band has some serious multiple personality disorder or something.

Example - yesterday I went for a massage (sooo good BTW!) and afterwards I decided to go for some Mexican. I've never even remotely gotten stuck on it so it's always a fave of mine. Got a few chips and cheese down and sure enough got stuck and PB'ed twice! I looked like such an idiot - I was by myself and had to just leave everything and head to the bathroom. I was afraid they would think i was doing a dine and dash! Sat there for a bit and tried to eat a bite of beans and it was a no go! The manager came and asked me if there was something wrong with my food. It was terrible!

So I just came home and had a protein shake. At dinner, I was craving pizza and had a small thin crust one in the fridge and i'll be damned if I didn't eat the whole thing! Argh!

This is just one of many examples of how up and down my band is. So what do you all think - should I get another small fill? I don't want to be too tight, but I never get that "you are full" tightness or lump in my throat like everyone talks about and at night mostly can eat too much. My last fill was mid-March and i've only lost 10 since then. I'm getting closer to the end so I know my weight will slow, but I feel like I can eat wayyyyy more than you all describe.

Thanks!

Shelby,

First of all, you look amazing! I really do like the new hair. The band disorder is hysterical! That is so funny.........

I have debated as well for another fill but have come to the conclusion that Im not going to get one just yet. I still cant eat breakfast, Im eating small portions for lunch and Dinner. There are some foods like chips and dips that I have to STAY away from because I can eat and eat and eat and never get that "full" feeling. For the most part I am doing ok with my caloires and food intake. If you are hungry and are eating more food than you are suppose to you might need a fill. The band is there to help you and you should not have to feel hungry all the time. So I say you might need a small fill, if you are hungry and eating good foods.

Good Luck!

Carrie

Hey Shelby,

Start tracking when you get stuck - I found when I started eating salty foods (like the chips first) and then tried eating my protein I ended up getting stuck more. I believe its due to the salt - you can quickly start retaining water which tightens your band. (I've learned that I cannot drink a salt rimmed margarita and then expect to eat without getting stuck).

Also look at what’s happening too you emotionally, I really start having issues when I’m under stress – if I feel the tightness while eating I look back and see what caused it. Sometimes it’s not our bands; it’s us doing things that we don’t realize affect our bands. (Or at least I think that’s part of it).

So you may need a fill, but then focus on when, how and what you’re eating to have a more consistent eating program.

Best,

Lisa

I agree with Lisa. Salt intake is something we all don't think about and when I have too much sodium in one day, I swell, which makes me want to drink more on top of what I am already drinking. A vicious cycle I don't care to have in my life right now.

Also, I've noticed that if I don't eat my planned proteins, evenly throughout the day, I get hungier later on the day, especially towards dinner and afterwards. So, I make sure I do my heaviest protein intake at lunch time. It's all the planning and the stress load of your day. I have to take each day as it comes, as my job and hectc home life changes all the time. ALWAYS have a "plan B" menu for you to fall back on. Don't always rely on protein shakes. I always have some kind of bean every day...whether it's soup, stew, or chili and added meat/chicken. This way, I will make sure I have some kind of protein in me, one way or the other.

As Lisa suggested, focus on your life and how you are doing with your food consumption and track your day's event, even your stress level. Sometimes I get so frustrated and then I just get back on track, even to go back to the very basic of things. I STILL measure out my food, EVEN though I know I can eat more. I try to eat at least 3 oz of proteins at each meal. If I can't then, I will have protein snacks to even out my day.

Hope this helps! Jazzy!!

You know...I never even thought of the salt issue! I did have a margarita before I started to eat the other day and I bet that was it! I am going to start tracking what I eat - especially if i have a drink first. I never thought about that - that is so interesting!

I think I am going to go for one more small fill, but before I go i'm getting back on track. I've had some bad habits lately and getting a fill won't fix that. So i'm not letting myself get one until I get back to basics. I've been eating a lot of slider foods and haven't laid off the dairy like I promised myself.

Thanks you all for the feedback!

Oh and PS - I hit 50lbs lost this week! Wooo Hoooo!!!!!!!! :D

Shelby!

Congrats on the 50lbs. You look GREAT! I also have never really thought about the salt issue and I do go to the "devils resturant" lol...Mexican food about once every two weeks. I also have a Margarita and of course those chips and dip! errrrr.. .... Not only that My hubby is addicted to Tony Sacheries, we have to have that on EVERYTHING and OMGosh, I checked the salt content, I think that is all that is in it! ............BAD BAD BAD!!!

Good luck to you on the fill issue, that is a hard choice somtimes to make.
