Ok people...... I'm not one to talk about this sort of thing with everyone, but I have to ask: Has anyone had issues with diahrea? I'm one week post op and have had a terrible time with this. Is this normal? Any advice?

Hi

I didn't have this problem infact I had the opposite ,but my husband had terrible diahrea.

It is quite common if you think about it, FLUIDS in FLUIDS out.

We added benefibre to his drinks and he took some flora (the natural bacteria) from the health store.

Imodium will help in in short term also.

Hope this helps.

I had major diarrhea the first few weeks after my surgery, but it did go away on its own. But even though I don't have diahrrea anymore, I definitely have more bowel movements now throughout the day than before. Is that normal? I think everyone's different and maybe it's our body's way of adjusting not only to a foreign object (the band) but also to our new way of eating. I mean I'm sure I put my body in shock by switching to vegetable soups, broths, and healthy smoothies. LOL .

Hope you feel better. It's no fun!

My daughter and I had the same thing, but basically only within the first week. Not much fun. I take a probiotic daily, like Nicole had suggested. I think they give you an antibiotic to ward off any infection, and that can mess with the normal balance of bacteria in there and result in diarrhea. (I take Primal Defense, by a company called Garden of Life, if that helps :) )

Hello Crystal!

Welcome to the world of the banded. I have not had any issues "yet" but I do recall Dr. Miranda stating that unless juice was a mix of 50% juice/50% water there would be that kind of problem.

I had never heard that before. Or packets were marked that we were going to received data "different" than our original paper work. I wonder if they've made some changes to the post op diet. I read the paper work several times and there seem to be numerous things they've recently changed.

I am a newbie myself, its been 1 week today as I was banded on June 12 by Dr Gorgeous!

Anyway, I have had this problem for many years and nobody was able to tell my why. I was taking MASSIVE amounts of psyillum fibre (1/4 cup before each meal) which ended up bulking me up so the diareah would slow down. This was not practical though and added more calories and just did not seem the way to lead your life.

One night in March of 2009 I was watching Discovery Health and a person had this problem, really bad.

Make a long story short, she was diagnosed with "HABBA SYNDROME".

Dr. Habba found that this type of diarrhea is associated with dysfunctional gallbladder.

Since I was at the point of having bleeding and going 10-12 or more times a day, I was anemic, all the time though gaining weight because I was feeling weak.

I went to see a gastroenterologist and told her about this syndrome and that it can be corrected by taking a product that binds bile acids because there is too much bile in the digestive track and thats what is causing the diareah. So I asked to be given the product,, cholestyramine, and on my first dose, the diareah went away. As long as I take this before I eat (its a small package of powder you take with 1/2 c of water), I am good.

This doctor Habba thinks millions of people have this issue, not that you do, but it sure solved my problems.

I stopped taking it after my lap band surgery but the diareah returned with a vengence. I went back to the cholestyramine and I am all good again.

Same here! I have always had trouble going #2 and I actually thought the liquid diet would help but didn't. I still really struggle but I know part of that is I need to quit eating dairy but I just can't do it. Trying to eat less though.

Once you all go back on solids it will balance itself back out. Good luck!
