Slow loss

I've been banded almost 4 months, and while i'm thrilled that i've lost weight since then (22lbs), it seems like it's going super slow. heck, for a couple months there i didn't lose anything. thankfully, i've started losing 1-2lbs a week. but i can't help but be frustrated and a bit disappointed when i read about other bandsters with a similar time frame who lost twice as much as me. i knew going into this that it probably would be a slow pace for me because of my PCOS and thyroid problems, but the reality of it is hard to deal with. i know i'm doing everything i can - eating right and exercising - but i can't help but wonder if i'll have the patience and discipline to stick this out when the results are so slow to come by.

sorry for whining, just having a tough bandster day... i'm not really looking for advice, just a friendly ear...

Feel free to vent anytime!!! i know it is frustrating, but everyone loses as a different pace so do not stress trying to compare yourself to others. 1-2 lbs a week is great and you will always have plateaus. Just think of where you would be now if you weren't banded. I know where I would be and it is sure not here! :)

Stick to the plan and it WILL work!

Babe I so hear you! I have been around 158-165 since before Christmas!!! Today I was finally 157 (yea!) and I think it's because lately I've just been living life and following rules, not counting calories and not stressing on the weight. And Sept will be 3 years banded for me! So I know where you are. You'll get past it I promise!

Don't get frustrated. Not all bandsters lose weight quickly..it does vary with each individual. I've also been banded for 4 months and I've lost a total of 26 lbs (most of which was during that first month of an all liquid diet). the scale hasn't moved for two months. That's ok. I'm just living life as well and trying not to think about it. I've noticed that when I think about it too much or obsess about it, it really backfires and I end up eating all the "crap" I shouldn't be. that mentality of "oh well I'm not losing so might as well eat everything I want" kicks in and that's the worst. So just keep on doing what you're doing and it's going to happen.

I think we all need to be focused on the bigger picture, not just the numbers on the scale. Focus on all the things you're doing now that you weren't before? Eating healthy, exercising, watching your portions. come on those are huge accomplishments. So give yourself a pat on the back for doing those things.

Trust me I need to give myself this pep talk everyday.

Hugs. I can relate, totally relate. So much so, I put away my scale and just focused on following the guidelines of my doctor and letting my food journal numbers be my benchmark rather than the scale numbers.

Do you have a favorite piece of clothing, something that is a smidge tight or that fits perfectly right now? If so, put it away for a month. Hang it on your bathroom door, just as you would your robe.

On the first of July instead of weighing, try on the outfit.

You'll feel more fullfilled because when we look at the scale, what we're really looking for is the feeling you get when something that was too tight fits perfectly or is a tad too loose.

The other thing to do is to have a friend take your measurements. If you take your measurements once a month you'll see that your body is changing...even if it doesn't show on the scale. It's because 1 lb of lean muscle mass weighs the same amount as 1 lb of fat (obviously, a pound is a pound) but it takes up less "mass" or space for lack of a better term.

Each day, regardless of what the scale says, your body is working and shrinking. I promise.

If you ever want to vent in person, I live in Vancouver too and would be happy to meet for coffee. I started out losing pretty fast but now you are losing faster than me....I'm only losing about a half pound per week now....if that. It is different for everyone, but I bet after a year we will all have about the same amount of weight loss. My cell is 604-908-4615 if you want to talk.

You are doing great! 1 to 2 pounds a week is a healthy weight loss and I would have loved to have been losing at that rate when I was 4 months post op. Keep your head up and continue moving forward. Slow and steady wins the race!
