MyNewLife Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Hey guys~! I have decided to do the pouch test. I started this morning, so far so good. I have really bad platues that seem to last FOREVER! Just wanted to know how this worked for the ones that have done it. Did you see a difference in the tightness of your band? Did it "kick start" your weight loss? Thanks Carrie
jhawkchick75 Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 I did it and it was a BIG help! I feel like it tightened me up a bit, but even more so it seemed to really help me get back to basics and back on track. I lost 4lbs in those 5 days and that also helped me with my motivation and determination as well. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
BellCurveBabe Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Do you think it would help someone who hasn't had a fill yet?
lesles Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Hi Ladies, Help me out here, What is the 5 day pouch test? Leslie
MyNewLife Posted June 11, 2009 Author Report Posted June 11, 2009 Today is day two and not bad at all. I drank a Protien shake for Breakfast and Lunch and water through out the rest of the day and at Dinner. Today I have had my Protien shake and 20 oz of water, think Im going to shake for Lunch and maybe some Coffee. I cant seem to do the chicken broth anymore..lol. Im sure this would help someone if they have not had a fill. Like Shelby says, it does help you to get back on track. The five day pouch test is the following: Day one and Two Liquids.....Protien Shakes, clear liquids, broth, cream soups, Sugar free jello and or pudding. Day three Soft foods....Tuna, eggs, soft fish such as tilapia etc..... Day Four Firm Foods..Ground meat, (turkey, beef, chicken) veggies, etc Day Five Solid foods... chicken, steak, pork etc... Carrie

But the weight loss sure was a perk! Can't wait to hear how you did! Make sure and post!
SimSim Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 So why does someone do the pouch test? After a fill? Thanks, - Simone
MyNewLife Posted June 15, 2009 Author Report Posted June 15, 2009 OK... So I weighed in this morning and I am holding at 202.8. The pouch test brought me down 3 lbs and it did seem to "tigthen" the band. Yesterday for lunch I got stuck on a couple of bits of brisket. Maybe this will give me the boost I need. Carrie
jhawkchick75 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 So why does someone do the pouch test? After a fill? Thanks, - Simone Hi Simone! People do the test for a variety of reasons, but I did mine b/c I was not losing as quickly and also was slowly sliding back into some bad eating habits. This did help tighten me up a bit and also got me back into good habits. I've also heard that if you have stretched your pouch slightly that it can help repair that, but I have nothing solid to back that up.

I also lost almost all my weight in the first three days of it. But if it helped get you back in good habits then it is all worth it. Great job! =D>
MyNewLife Posted June 16, 2009 Author Report Posted June 16, 2009 Dana, Thanks you for the support. I have been wondering how you have been doing, havent seen an update on you in a while. I love hearing how everyone is doing ! Shelby, Thanks, the first three days seem to do the trick. I am back to counting and trying to do high and low days on caloires to see how it will work for me. How is everything going with you? Carrie
shiney42 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 So I have to ask... If one hasn't had a fill yet do we have a pouch? I think it's not really a pouch yet? Not sure? I'm mixed up
AshleyMarie Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 When doing the 5 day pouch test do you only eat what is on the list or do u eat veggies too? I really think I should start this after Father's Day. I am getting off track and am feeling down on myself. Something weird for me is that I have been eating desserts. I have never been a sweets person but want sweets on a daily basis. Its time to get back on track.
MyNewLife Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 Ashley, I would say you could eat veggies starting on day three. It really did good for me. Good luck and keep us posted! As far as the sweets, OMGosh I have NEVER been a sweet person but I truely have to watch it now. I CRAVE sweets as well, 99% of the time I want Ice Cream. I have NEVER been an ice cream eater...hmmm. I think that is why I LOVE my protein bar, gives me that sweet kick. Carrie

How is everything going with you? Carrie I'm doing OK and trying to hold strong, but have a lot of external factors hurting me right now. I'm about to lose my job and have been having some house and personal stuff going on. But i'm trying to stay positive and keep my eye on the prize. I am upping my protein b/c i'm training for a 5k and trying to watch out for slider foods since this last fill. Am losing so that is good!
leahwebster Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 HEY ALL, Checking in at the end of day 3 of my pouch test, I am thankfull for the protien! LOL Fish never tasted so good. MMMMM I have been doing ok, It seems the day starts strong and I do fine through lunch but by the time it is dinner time and cooking for the family I am TOAST! So I have allowed about 1/3 to half of cup of what ever the meat is at dinner time and it really helps. Other than that the carb headaches have gone GOOD BYE< Thankfully! And I have lost 2 pounds. I know I am not supposted to weight but it is just so hard to walk past the scale.... Other than this life is pretty normal. Things are going really good I have lost 14 pounds so far. At this point I dont have any restriction and I can eat what ever I want just smaller portions. I am going in tomarrow for my first adjustment. I get to inflate the band a little bit at a time, "the Sweet spot" is where I will be hungery only every 4 hours or so. This is the goal. Right now I am doing good if I can last 2 hours with out munching. The 5 Day Pouch test has realy helpped with this. I had'nt realized I was such a grazer. Not so healthy. So my weight is 226 so far. I know it will take time to loose all of the extra weight. The lapband is a tool not a miracle pill. I think I was expecting too much at first thinking I could loose 5 lbs a week. Loosing that much wouldnt even be healthy. So we have been doing life as normal. We were given a cherries, a whole trees worth! so the girls have be having lots of fun picking and making stuff. so far we have made pie, and jam. MANY didnt make it out of the field. LOL It has been hot here, we are going camping with the whole big family this weekend so I have been getting things together, I cant wait! Well, I better get off this thing morning starts really early. Good luck every one. After friday When do we want to start a ROUND #2 For the 5 day GROUP pouch test for all of those who want to get involved but were not ready to start on last monday...... How about Monday 22nd? LET US ALL KNOW AND WE CAN INTRODUCE OUR SELVES HERE AND Get STARTED. In introducing ourselves lets share our favorite receipts!!!!!!! What a great way to get modivated and to start the scale moving!

I thing it is like our sub concious want to substitute for QUANTITY! Before it was just carbs on general such as noodles and breads. I use to LOVE just eating toast.... MMMM
