SDGIRL
Just wondering........... I can guzzle any type of liquid with no problem. Sometimes I feel like I need a fill and then other times I get food stuck. I think more than anything, I just don't chew enough or take small enough bites. If I can guzzle liquids though, with no problem, should I be getting a fill?
JazzyJude
Why are you guzzling in the first place? Anyone can guzzle but why would you want to? It's a bad, unhealthy habit for us bandsters. You should not be eating drinking in a hurry. Try to plan your meals so you can eat/drink in enjoyment and not feel as though you have to rush through the meal and wonder what you ate. This is what I've done and what a difference in planning it made for me. We are learning of what we can or should do and what's best for us. Take the time to learn a better 'eating style' and you may surprise yourself you would have better portion control and a balance in drinking your liquids. It's all part of the band world and everyone is going to be different too. By reading what you've said, you just answered your inquiry...cut your foods into smaller bite, such as a dime-size, chew into much smaller particles and swallow slower than you normally have done - all in a relax frame of mind. Try to revamp your way of eating healthier and if you are still stuck, contact OCC for assistance. They can suggest some options for you personally. Keep the focus...Jazzy!! SDGIRL
Don't guzzle!! I was just told today at the OCC not to guzzle liquids and to take sips! Thanks Angela............... It's not that I'm in a hurry, it's the fact that I hate to drink water so I want to hurry up and get it over with. Does it do anything to the band? Just wondering if OCC said anything? Thanks. The Dr. didn't mention anything specific but, I think you run the risk of PBing easier if you're guzzling. I have irritation and had to be partially unfilled and I'm back to liquids for a week. And one of the things he told me was to take sips and wait about 7 secs between each sip.
Christy26
I dont take tiny little sips. I drink as I always did, which is pretty fast. However I eat slowly and take smaller bites but they arent so small i cant even taste the food.
jhawkchick75
I don't sip, but I definitely don't chug. I take smaller, but fairly normal drinks, but do take a few seconds between each to make sure its had time to go down. I still do OK with cold drinks, but am weaning myself off really cold stuff, but it is tough I love a really cold ice water. But I know as my restriction gets tighter that won't be an option. I'm sure your band is OK, but they do say do not chug your drinks b/c it can hurt you.
Smiley
A few months back a couple of women at my surgery center had stretched their pouch because they were guzzling their drinks - so be careful. I am not a super huge fan of water either, so I drink caffeine free tea and also add flavors to my water. Lemonade is typically my flavor of choice. I also have a glass of milk every morning and that counts towards my 64 ounces of fluid intake.

I have a question, I have read several different post today about "cold drinks". What is this about, not sure I have heard anything about this before so I am curious. finally
Thanks for this post. I was drinking my morning tea as I read this, slowing down!! Really never thought about "guzzling" but as I think about it I do most likely drink too fast. I am on liquids because got food stuck. Yesterday I drank my liquids pretty fast, today is a new day! Will try to slow it down. (princess sips-not really a princess type girl but I am trainable!) Sure wouldn't want to have this band without a forum like this. Habits are hard to break . The band showed me what happens if I don't chew well and eat too fast!

The cold drinks can tighten up your band. I've noticed that if I drink cold stuff before I eat then it tightens me up. Same as folks that drink hot tea in the am to loosen theirs up a bit. Since my last fill i'm being very careful with this especially at lunch b/c i'm still pretty tight then. Good luck with the fill! I am at 3.1 and overall I do good, but am definitely tighter and need to slow down on my eating and chew better. Been pb'ing way too much this last week and need to get it under control.
