NCbusdriver
Hi all..Im new here.. I had my mind set on gastric bypass, and just recently decided to go with the lap band. Here is my issue..my BMI is 52. Here, they used to have a cap of a BMI no greater than 50 but apparently that has been lifted. I am interested in seeing if anyone else had/has a BMI of 50 or greater and has/is (getting) lapband. I dont want to go the gastric route anymore..and even with my BMI so high, both my PCP and myself feel like a loss of 100-120 lbs would be completely acceptable. I am male that has a large frame, and muscle mass in my *non-fat* places. Anyone else in this boat? Thanks

Thanks Hi, my BMI started out at 55...I have since lost weight and am down to a BMI of 46...I am getting banded on the 19th of August and cannot wait!!! Back in the day (before I knew about the band) I considered gastric bypass but the more I learned about it I found it just wasn't for me...I don't like the idea of reinventing my insides! My g/f had the band last year and has had no problems (she ended up getting pregnant and had to unfil but is starting over again with me now) and I work with both a female and male that had the band in 2008 and both are doing fantastic without any "issues"... I say go for the band for sure!!! From what I have seen personally, this is the best and safest choice...congratulations on your decision to go the safer route....I look forward to hearing how it all goes for you! Jen Thanks Jen..I will let you know how everything goes. I go for my first "Lap Band Seminar" on Monday, and that will start the process of the extremely streamlined program that the EC surgical center has going on. I too look forward to hearing about your journey. -Angelo

I wish I could do it up here but I would still have to fly across the country and it would cost twice as much so...it was a pretty simple decision. I was originally scheduled to have it done last September but due to problems with my stomach ulcers I had to put it off....I can't believe that exactly 2 weeks today I will be banded! I am excited and nervous...keep me posted with your progress for sure! Jen

I should really learn how to download a picture and some of the fancy status stuff the others have...I am just NOT inclined like that so it is a struggle lol Do you know about when you will be able to have the surgery? MyNewLife
Hi Angelo! I think you are making a very good choice and of course you are welcome here. This is a great place for support! The people on this forum are AWESOME! You will get a little bit different information from this forum as from being banded in the US...some of the rules we go by are just a little different. However any questions you have, we all would be more than happy to try to help you out with! Congrats and best wishes! Carrie
jhawkchick75
Welcome to the group! Yeah, the rules you hear from us will be a little more strict than what i've heard from folks that are banded in the US, but otherwise you will get a lot of great information here. Best of luck and can't wait to hear about your success!!!!!!
dejongshy
I am so proud to day that my mother was banded 3 years ago (with a BMI of 57-59, almost 400lbs). She has dropped an astounding 187lbs and is going to have her Tummy Tuck in the morning... They expect her to be a size 12 when all is said and done... You can do it... The thing to remember is that this is a tool.... Her friend that had G.B. is now looking at being banded over her G.B. because she has stretched her stomach... Good Luck.
