Nicole - it is bitter sweet. I am glad you are doing what is right for you and your body. Sadly, it means parting ways with a great tool. You have learned a better way of eating. I believe you can do it. I've read about several people who have there bands completely unfilled after reaching goal anyway. I am happy for you! You will be so happy to not be in pain or discomfort anymore, and you did give it your best shot. Hugs!

Carrie Hi Carrie For the past 3 mths I have not been able to eat ant solid food without throwing up even though my band is completely unfilled. The past mth it has got worse where anything soup ,protein shakes will not stay down. The last 2 weeks I've been living on gaterade and water and even that comes up sometimes. The worst is the reflux at night which causes me to throw up somach acid which is painful. I have lost alot of hair and feel just plain unwell, taking vitamins or pills just sit in my pouch so thats not good either. I know I can keep the weight off it didn't take me a week to put on 100lbs plus I am not going to be pregnant again, so that helps.LOL I planned to have lipo sucked from my back and stomach and put into my bum, but I don't have any right now so I need to gain some weight back for that.LOL I'll still visit the forum though. DixyChixy1966
Oh my gosh Nicole, I am so very sorry to hear that you have to go through having it removed and especially sorry for all the suffering you went through! Do you know why you were having all those problems after having the band for as long as you did? When did the problems start and what were your symptoms? Is Dr. O removing it? How much does that cost? Sorry for all the questions, I just feel like I should know what can happen... Congratulations on that huge weight loss, you are definitely an inspiration!!!! This freaks me out as I am just starting my journey...I am so very sorry you have had to suffer
jhawkchick75
So sorry you have had to go through that, but you have been very successful and i'm sure you have the skills now to keep it off. I'm sure you will be great!!
BrandNewDawn
Nicole, I am sorry to hear that your band is going to be removed. The most important thing right now is for you to get some relief from the pain you have been suffering and get your nutrition built back up. Especially with the winter cold/flu season coming up. You need to get healthy. Please do come back and let us know how you are doing. Take care of yourself. I pray you heal fast and that you are feeling better soon. magkai1
I know this subject is not about me, but is anyone else who is scheduled to have the surgery freaking out a little over this? Perhaps us "knowing" someone who has to lose their band means that, statistically, we won't know anyone else who this will happen to? (Did that make sense?) nothereanymore
This happens, to a very small % of people - its less than 4% loose their bands is what I read. I got the band with those odds and glad I did. Nicole hit a hard spot after reaching her goal and due to complications needs to have it removed. She's not the first person we've had on this board that had it removed - however it’s important to note that in 3 years that I've been on I've only seen a few - and that's with hundreds of patients using this forum. I bet if you asked Nicole - she's most likely glad she got it - even with the problems. She's lost over 115 pounds. That's life changing. With any surgery there are chances of complications – based on what I could see (with myself) the chances of complications from being morbidly obese were much higher than any I could find with the band. Nicole – once a bandster – always a bandster – you have the knowledge and wisdom to have continued success with healthy living. You go girl! All my best and I hope you continue with us – it really helps to keep you motivated – (or at least it helps me). Lisa

DixyChixy1966
Thanks Lisa for reminding me why I did this in the first place, because had I not...I was pretty much setting myself up for worse problems.
nicolek
Hi all Thanks for your words of encouragement. If I had to do it again knowing everything, Would I? You bet in a heart beat.I know there is no way I would have lost 100+ lbs without it. My problems didn't start until I had lost most of my weight almost if my body was saying "done your job, now out". I think of this as just a minor hiccup in my road to a healthy me. Also why did I get the band vs gastric. because if there was a problem it could be taken out. I'm having it taken out here in Alberta where it is covered by our health insurance. Luckily!!!! I'm just hoping it can be done laproscopically ,but apparently I have alot of scar tissue. So we'll see. I'll deal with the incision if it happens. DixyChixy1966
Nicole, you are such an inspiration and your attitude is so great - thanks for sharing with us and letting us know that regardless of this "hiccup" you would do it again...it makes the whole thing a little less scary! AngieB
Nicole is it possible for you to get your band unbuckled? Then rebuckled after swelling goes down? I had no idea it was possible until I found someone on LBT who had it done!
