Genie03
Hello everyone This is my first post so please excuse me if I am not doing it right or it's been asked before. I'm about a week an a half away from eating solids and I must say I'm a bit nervous. I know I hear alot of you say that you can't eat most types of bread or hard meat, but is this before any fills as well or is it only after you get fills?? I guess I'm most nervous about getting things stuck in the begenning instead of the restriction part of it. Also before the lap band I wasn't the best eater and I want to start off on a good foot so I'm trying to make my meal plan in advance to not have any temptations once I get on solids, but I'm not really quit sure how to go about it. I usually have a sandwich or something of that range for lunch, but since there will be no bread I'm not quit sure what to eat for lunch. Also what do you typically eat for dinner?? I'm so confused about it all. Sorry if I have a ton of questions in one post I guess I've been holding in all my questions till now.
RevyD
Hi Genie. A good place to start is by looking at the daily food logs of people. It gives you an idea of what we are eating and then you can make some decisions. I don't eat sandwhiches but for lunch at work I always have a tin of the flavoured tuna. They are very small and come in great flavors. I have 5 Breton crackers with it and usually an orange. Crackers go down fine for me. Also lots of great recipes under the recipe section in this forum. Good luck with your solids and your new life Debbie
jhawkchick75
Just what I was gonna say! Definitely look under post op diet and food and many of us journal our food each day. For me, I had no restriction until a couple of fills in and I will never forget my first PB was on an english muffin. I think I had two fills under my belt by then. Getting sick stinks, but it is a part of band life. You just have to listen to your body and when you learn what your signals are you learn to stop eating. Very few people have good restriction with no fill if you do get it that is awesome, but it is rare.
DaGreen
Excellent advice ladies! I know that soup and Atkins diet shakes were on my standby. If you are so inclined, make a crockpot full of one of many recipes in the recipe forum and freeze it. Have it all on hand "just in case". I remember my first pb, leftover Honey Baked Ham Dec 28th, 2008. I hate ham! hahahaha

Chewing is the key to a successful partnership with the band. I have a decent level of restriction, which took me several months to build up to. I love my band and it has taught me so very much. I love the limits it sets for me. In many ways it does for me what I was unable to feel successful doing for myself. I lovingly refer to my band as "forced behavior modification". Don't fear it, work with it.

But like others say, you will probably find that you will be able to eat just about anything until that first or second fill. But even though things will go down easily at first, try to begin practicing the small bites, chewing and other good habits right off the get go. That way when you get some serious restriction, you will already be an expert! Trust me, sliming and throwing up are NO FUN and you will want to do everything you can to avoid reaching that point. The band works and will teach you a lot about how to eat, what to eat and how much to eat. It's a beautiful thing!
