Single Incision Lapband Option?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've got my surgery scheduled for the 5th of February and I'm getting ready for my pre-op diet. My question is regarding the surgery itself. I've been reading that a growing number of surgeons in the US are offering a single incision option for some of their patients. My understanding is that they use the belly button as an incision point. Does anyone know is this is an option with Dr. Ortiz and the rest of his surgeons? Thanks in advance, I'm getting REALLY excited!

Single incision is in the US only. OCC does 5 incisions. I found a Doctor in Beverly Hills (Dr. Feiz) who does 3 incisions with the main incision through the belly button.

I have never heard of anyone doing a single incision, but boy my tummy would look less like I got in a knife fight if I had only one incision. Thankfully 3 of them were very small and the biggest one was remove by the tummy tuck, even though that itself left a big one from hip to hip, but at least it can't be seen should my shirt slip up.

1 year post op, and really the only scar that's plainly visible is where the port goes. Some people don't heal as well as others. Remember that less incisions means less room to work. I'm not placing impunity on the skills of the doctors that do 3 or 1 incision procedures, but knowing human anatomy like I do, and the closeness to the major descending arteries and veins in the area the surgery is performed, I personally feel more comfortable with more incisions. 1 is fine if you're getting implants, or getting a gal bladder removed, but yeah...I'm happy with the 5 little scars I have.

I'm a Registered Nurse with extensive theatre experience and Like Trav said, 'less is not necessarily more' if you no what I mean. The margin for error increases with the limited dexterity of the trochars etc. The pinkness of the scars continue to fade with time until nearly invisable. I too shall settle for that when my turn comes.
