Bobo
Hi all!! I'm new to this forum and although I'm not getting banded by Dr. Ortiz I find your group to be interesting and full of information. I'm getting banded on February 13th in Southern California, luckily my insurance is covering it! I'm 5'1" and 200 pounds and I can't wait to gain control of my weight. I have yo-yo dieted for the past 10 years and I'm excited about having this new tool. I'm 32 years old with 3 sons. I can't wait to get to know all of you. I was wondering how many days off work I'm going to need. My doctor says I will need a few days but I want to hear from some first hand experiences. My plan is to have the surgery on Saturday and go back to work on Tuesday. Do you think it'll be enough time? I'm a first grade teacher.

Personally I would have been A-OK to return to work. I had surgery on Friday and was back to work Tues. (I stay home Monday to care for my hubby who had knee surgery.) I had no gas pains at all and if you didn't know I had surgery...you would have not been able to tell. Everyone is different, I was very blessed!!! bogiesmom
I am also in Southern Cali and I am 35 with 1 son. I agree with Angie, returning to work the Tuesday after you will be fine. I had mine done at the OCC on a Saturday and was back to work the following Monday (actually I did 4 loads of laundry on Sunday which was a lot more physical then my desk job). One sugestion I would like to offer is that if you can get something to wrap around your mid-section like a loose gurdle or adjustable elastic band or tight teddy/cami slip the more comfortable you will feel especially when you are sitting down. I felt so uncomfortable sitting since my incisions were sore and they bothered me touching my clothes and I just felt like I needed something to hold me in since my insides just giggled like jello amking the incisions and port area feel worse. I actually caught myself a couple times holding my stomach in place.
pinkfordyone
Hey bogiesmom, that's a great idea - something around your tummy. I was banded on a Thurs. and was back to church on Sunday, where I'm the children's director. The only thing I noticed was that I was a little sore, nothing bad at all, and that I held my stomach when I laughed. I have been wearing a sports bar since being banded. One of the incisions is pretty high and my wire bar seemed to irritated it. You should be just find as long as you don't lift any kido's. Congrat's on setting a date, your going to do great! Bobo
Thanks everybody I feel more at ease now and I do like the idea of wearing something to help the tummy area feel more secure. I actually had a tummy tuck in March 2008 and I still have my support garment. Yeah I had a tummy tuck and gained 35 pounds after!
jhawkchick75
Congrats on your decision! Everyone is so different on their healing. I had surgery on a Thurs and was back at work on that next Wed. My healing process took longer than most folks. Just take it easy and if you can at work get up and walk around as much as you can that helps. Lucky you that insurance will pay for it! That is awesome!
