hopethisworks
i'm a jerk. I did not follow the pre-op diet hardly at all. I know i didn't lose anything. I am thinking of cancelling my surgery next week. I simply don't have discipline, and i'm afraid i won't after i get banded either. I feel like i'm a lost case. Any advice? Did any of you guys experience this? I travel a lot, and am a senior executive in my company. Lots of wining/dining/socializing. Is this the right decision for me? I feel totally at a loss. karenci
Only you can decide if you will be able to have the discipline to follow the diet restrictions after banding. It would be a shame to spend the $ if you can't, because the band won't work if you don't follow the 'rules.' It's a tool, and can't/won't do the work for you. There are lots of ways to defeat the band, and worse, if you don't follow the diet the result can be band slippage or erosion. It takes discipline, everyone who enjoys success does so because of their own dedication and hard work. I started this journey thinking it would be a 'magic pill', and if I just saved up and bought a band then the weight would just fall off after surgery. . . but it's not that easy. The post-op liquid diet is tougher than the pre-op diet, so if you can't stick to it my advice would be to save the money and the potential complications.

I'm thinking i better not move forward until i get my act together.

I struggled with the pre-op diet. I had my cheats and stuck to it the best I could. I lost the weight they asked and that made me feel good. It is a difficult diet and the post op liquid diet is hard too. I will say that the first 2-3 days of the post op diet were easy for me, I had no hunger and didn't really feel like eating. The pre-op diet does more than get your liver ready for surgery, it also shrinks your stomach. To be frank, I didn't get my head in the right place before I began, I did the best I could. I did feel like a let down, cuz I did not do either the pre or post diets perfect. It is harder than I thought it would be too. I love my band and would not change anything. Angie Angie, Thanks so much for your reply! I have been much better this weekend; i take off tomorrow for San Diego and I'm nervous and excited at the same time. It looks like you are going really well! You've lost a lot of weight! Congratulations! I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one that can't get their head right. But I had all my friends promise an intervention if they see me start to fail. Thank God for good friends!
jhawkchick75
Best of luck w/ your surgery! I agree completely you must have your head in the right place to do this, so be prepared. The band is just a tool and we still have to do a lot of work. I struggled with the pre op diet too, but once I had the surgery I was so scared of messing something up that I was super careful and followed the rules to the T. I have been slacking a bit lately but am committed to getting back on track. These last 10 have been tough but I am bound and determined to get them off! Contratulations on all that weight lost! I hope, i hope, i hope i can be committed enough. Like you, i am afraid of messing something up or causing complications so i plan to follow orders this time! AND I have 5 friends who are going to help me and apply intervention if i need it. One of them even offered to have me live with her so I CANT sneak. haha. Hopefully it wont come to that but it sure is great to have friends to support us, isn't it? I suspect this forum will be incredibly encouraging as well.
