Hi. New.. Has anybody here had theirs in Mexico?

Recommended Posts

HI everybody, I am looking into getting the band. It is way to expensive here and I have seen places in Mexico that are cheaper. I am worried though about the safety and conditions ect. Has anyone on here got their band in Mexico? If so can anybody recommend a MD or facility or know of somewhere to avoid? Also how long was the wait? Thanks in advance

This is the patient support forum for a surgery center in Tijuana, Mexico (Obesity Control Center). So, it's probably safe to say that a good 95% of the active members here had their surgery in Mexico with Dr. Ariel Ortiz.

As for the wait...I've seen patients have their surgery within 3 days of initial contact. It's all about how fast you can get your paperwork in, manage payment, etc. You can find out more info at www.obesitycontrolcenter.com.

oh ok. I just typed in lapband forums and this is what I got. I didnt realize it was for a specific clinic:) Can anybody answer a few questions?

Is the airfare thats included only from San Francisco?

How do you get your "fills" done once back in the US?

Just anybody who wants to tell me their story would be great!

I am so excited!

Greetings,

You came to the right place! If you want affordable, specialized bariatric surgical care then the OCC in Tijuana, Mexico is the place. Also, if you want to learn more about the different patients and their experience...just read some of the blogs. Most of the people on this site are very kind and helpful with any and all questions you may have. Now about your travel. The OCC will provide transportation from the San Diego Airport to Tijuana and then back to the San Diego Airport when you depart. I had to pay for my flight to and from San Diego. When you contact the OCC for information, they will provide all the information you will need. When I scheduled my surgery, I was able to schedule the date I wanted, and could not have had better care and service. Included in this information is the US doctors who provide fills.

I had a great experience. I have had such success and I am relatively new. I received my Lapband on March 18th. I can not say enough positive things about Dr. Ortiz, all the other Doctors who were present. And the staff nurses, receptionist, well just everyone who were there are so kind and professional.

I am a nurse in KC and I studied many options for this surgery before going to Mexico. I agree with you, the prices in the US are way too expensive! In Mexico there are other places that can provide this surgery, but be sure you check them out in detail. I found that no other place compared to the OCC.

Look around and I bet you will find that the OCC is the best place to go.

You will see my screen name is Apprehenisve, but NO LONGER! I am one of the many satisfied patients.

Best of Luck

Apprehensive

Hi Sam, I just had surgery on 4-19. I'm not sure about airfare. I am going to get my fills done at OCC. My thinking on this is they put it in. So they should be the best ones for my aftercare. I would be more than happy to relate my experience to you. Give me a shout. I am very pumped about being banded and how it and I will work together to beat obesity. I truly love to talk about it and my OCC experience. It was the best decision I have ever made. TC

Welcome Sam,

My comments are closely aligned with what apprehensive has written. I too manage a clinical healthcare center and know what's expected. The OCC surpasses US standards and comes in better than many US hospitals I have been to. I researched real carefully before I picked the OCC, mainly because my daughter was banded first. The OCC is the best...best staff, best support, best doctors..I was done almost 6 weeks ago and am traveling back next Friday for my first fill. As someone else mentioned the OCC did the procedure then I believe the OCC should do the fills..But this may be harder for east coast folks, but I know there are fill centers out there many on this support site use them...Just keep reading..this is the best place to get information about surgery in Mexico..Good luck!

I was just banded on April 23 by Dr. Ortiz at the OCC and I must tell you that I could not have had a better experience anywhere. Everything went so smoothly - from the pick-up at the airport to pre-op apts, to the hotel experience, and surgery. I was very comfortable and felt I was in the best hands. The facility and staff were awesome and I would recommend it to anyone. I'm just one week out, but have had no complications. I had surgery last friday and was back to work on monday! I am so excited to be on this journey! Good luck

You lucked into the right forum! I did tons of research of Mexican facilities before I chose the OCC. I personally know two other people who live in my town who also had surgery at the OCC (one of them is my daughter!). All of us had safe, positive experiences having surgery in Mexico, specifically at the OCC. Once you've made up your mind, just give them a call. They'll walk you through the entire process and from the time you get off the plane in San Diego, they take care of you until they drop you off at the airport to go home.

Regarding fills, I had my first fill at the OCC and it also was a positive experience. However, I've had subsequent fills here, because I couldn't afford the time or money to go back to the OCC. Although for me it would be preferably to get them down there, I haven't had a bad experience having them up here. The key is to find a good fill doctor if you can't make it back to the OCC.

The people on this forum are extremely friendly and helpful, so any other questions you have, just ask!
