Port Revision Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering if anyone has had port revision surgery? My port tipped early last year but the pain was pretty minimal and the port could still be accessed relatively easily for fills/unfills, so my doctor I see here said we'll wait and see if revision will be necessary as the weight comes off. It's tipped even more now, to the point where there's constant pain, so I'm hoping to have revision surgery done soon.

I imagine it's a pretty quick procedure, given the banding process itself is relatively quick, but if anyone who has had revision surgery done could chime in with some details (how long it took, recovery time etc.) I would greatly appreciate it. :D

I'm interested in hearing your responses becuase I'm only 3 mos. out of surgery and my port is tilted. My 1st fill dr. didn't seem to have too much trouble accessing it, but my 2nd fill dr (yesterday) had an AWFUL time getting in it. I just pray he didn't damage it. I kept hearing him poking the hard plastic outter edge of it. I'm going to go back to my 1st fill dr. next time and pray she doesn't have a hard time and that it hasn't moved since she accessed the first time. She said it was titled the 1st time towards my left shoulder. YIKES!

I am 99% sure I'm going to need this surgery too. My port has always moved around and has always felt like it was rubbing on my ribs, and I've never been able to sleep on my left side and now it is suddenly sticking out like an alien inside me and hurts ALL THE TIME. I called OCC and it's only a 15 minute procedure but it will cost me about $1000 for flights, surgery and transportation so I'm holding out thinking the port revision could be done for free when I get a tummy-tuck, something I ALMOST have enough money to do in the next few months. I am trying to hang in there but it's really bugging me so I may have to get it taken care of before tummy tuck which sucks `cause I'll have to use tummy-tuck savings and then I'll need to save that $1000 again and who knows how long that will take. Let me know what you decide.

I just got back from Mexico a few weeks ago for a face lift, eyes and boobs. The doctor was very carful not to do too much. The anitheiologist (sp) had me use the twightlight while the doctor worked on my face, then he put me under for the boobs. I was on the table for 7 hours. I love my doctor and the outcome. I have boobs for the first time in my life that do not point down! And all the loose skin on my neck is gone. His prices are great and he works with you on helping to transportation and where to stay, just talk to his surgery planer Giselle...she is wonderful and so helpful, they always answer the phone. Dr Campose took 2 hours the day before surgery for my consult and took pictures the the next day just befor ethe surgery. Barbar Sawyer highly reccomends him! I paid 8K for all his work, and everything else, including my flight, and 10 stay in a healing house. I will be bringing a freinds this winter to see him for work, we will stay in SD this time and all be there for each other...it can be quite a bonding experince.

Hi Barb! Great to hear from you and to know your experience was so great! Do post pics when you feel better, we would love to see the finished product. (No naked poses needed.....lol.) Congrats on your new body!

Curious your reasons for staying in SD next time. I am considering Campos for my work too but don't want to stay in TJ the whole time. I don't speak a single word of Spanish (Canadian) and the violence there still scares me. When I went for a fill I stayed at a hotel near the borsder that had free shuttles to and from Mexican doctor's appointments. It was a bare-bones room but clean enough and certainly convenient.

I had my port replaced and tubing repositioned at OCC May 10th. Mine was a little different then a standard port replacement because my actual issue was unknown I went into surgery, they did an exploratory and then fixed me. almost two weeks later everything is great, the incision hurts a bit still but the port itself (it's lower then the incision) is good and no pain.

I would stay in SD this time because I don't speak Spanish and the staf (La Case de Lilas)and the owner didn't speak English either. While I was there, 4 patients left early because they did not feel comfortable. It was very hard to recover while doing sharaids to ask for anything, I think it hurt my healing more than helped it. Giselle, Dr Campoes nurse was a big help (she even gave me here personal cell phone number to call her, she was going to CA to celabrate her boyfriends B-day and still told me to call for anything!) and she will not recomend the place to other anymore. It was owned by a female bi-lingul nurse who very muched loved. She sold it to this Antonio and he is ruining her reputation and not going to keep bussiness the way that she did.

He even moved the location to a 3 story condo in a busy neighborhood. Dr Campose has deals with the hotels in SD and drivers. Warning, he is a very handsome man and I was so surprised to see how much better looking he is in person compared to the internet photos. His hair is the color of a chocolate bar and he is as sweet.

Just make sure your TT doctor is willing and able to move the port. Mine would not move it.

If I go to Dr. Campos, he said he would move it but Dr. Nyte won't. I'm just worried that what if he opens me up and finds it's not a port causing problems after all, but something worse. 18 months of port pain. I'm at my breaking point. I went to emergency on the weekend for XRay and I get a barium swallow tomorrow...then and they are sending me reports to send to Dr. Ortiz but it takes two weeks for the m to mail me the disk..."hospital policy". Ugh!

Dr Campos told me that he would move my port for me too. I would like my midrif lipod and the port sticks out too much as it is now. He has done lap band surgery and would know what to do. Also keep in mind that Dr Ortez and the OCC is only a couple of blocks away from Dr Campos' office. I went to the OCC to have my band checked while I was there in April for my PS with Campos. I was worried because the food program that I use (Kay Sheppard) has a huge amount of not processed foods, I was sure I had stretched out my band. But no, it was great and the doctor said I could keep eating this way...I was soooo surprised that I didn't get yelled at for eating so much! But they are healthy choices and Dr So said that was okay and everything looked great on fluo, told me to keep it up. He also reminded me that the band could tighten up for no reason at any time. I like it on the looser side so I can eat lots of high fiber foods. There are times that it gets too tight and others times it is wide open. I Love my band and because of it I have been able to loose this unhealty weight and feel better about the way I look, I would not want to be without it! I find that most people have problems if they keep the band too tight, let it be a support for you and don't depend on it to be the boss of your eating. Let it help you be the boss. I have my bandaversity in June, three years.
