Leaving for OCC soon. What items do I bring for surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am leaving soon for the OCC. What items do I need to bring? What are the gas strips that people talk about? Do you only get three pain pills to take home? I had severe gas pains, nausea and vomiting for two days after my gallbladder surgery . I could not keep any fluids down and had to have any IV and stay in thd hospital for three days. I am scared to death and I want to be prepared when I am discharged to the Hotel. Any suggestions or things everyone wished they knew before their surgery ? Thanks so much...

Sherri - Yahoo on getting ready to leave! I had anxiety over packing....kinda weird but as soon as I was packed I was so ready and had not reservations or fears. ONWARD!

What I would pack.....

GAS-X strips. I also took liquid Beano with me. I used both, and had NO GAS pains what-so-ever. Here is what I did. As I was leaving the hotel, I squirted beano under my tounge. I had gas-x strips that I took to take. I didn't take them due to gas pains, I took them as a preventative measure. Did this work, I have no idea as I had no gas, so I can not say....or maybe I had no gas because I did these things....really I don't know, but I would do it all over again if I have surgery again.

I took comfee cloths, with room in them. I had a comfee pair of jams and a laptop that was awesome to have!

I took liquid tylenol with me, for just in case. I took it before we went on our 5 hr shopping tourist extravaganza the day after surgery.

PACK LIGHT! You really don't need to weigh yourself down with "stuff."

I took crystal light packets, and special k protein packs too. Which are easy peazy and light.

The OCC will take good care of you, I hope this will be your best surgery experience yet! (with no nausa or gas pains.)

Take Care!

Angie

I would also take a heating pad if you have one and I also took my laptop. Very few English speaking stations there and the laptop saved my life! I had a little more pain that others so I wasn't feeling like going shopping and stuff so I stayed around the hotel for the most part. We tried going shopping but i was too painful for me and I got really annoyed with the pushy vendors! :)

Gook luck!!! I agree pack light and very loose comfy clothes. I took my make up (no idea why) but you soo don't need it just take the bare minimum.

Pack as light as you can, on the way back after surgery you have to get out of the OCC van and walk through the border crossing dragging your suitcase and then hoist it onto the xray belt so be sure it's nothing any larger than a carry-on bag! Bring loose, comfortable clothing and slip-on shoes (you aren't going to want to bend over to tie your shoes after surgery) You can leave your laptop in the hotel when you go for surgery, they have walk-up english computers you can use and after surgery when you get up and walk-walk-walk you can pop in and use them. Don't stress it, OCC plans to have you spend the night there after your surgery, but I felt so good by that afternoon they let me go back to the hotel the same day, I had no gas, didn't need the pain pills but I did bring and take Tylenol PM which helped a LOT - for me, the biggest issue was not being able to sleep on my side so the sleep aid helped. Congratulations!!
