Coming alone except for my many questions

Recommended Posts

Posted this under the June thread however didn't see any replies and wanted to add more info to it anyhow, let me start be saying I am directionally challenged and get lost very very easily so I am getting quite nervous about coming alone especially since I hoped to get out at least a little (promised a friend a sombero (sp?) and I have 4 kids and a sister, plus a grandmother to bring back something for. Anywho here's my orginal post hope I can connect with others. Also any tips would be greatly appreciated, like can I bring bottled water, protein shakes etc if I check a bag or does the size restrictions apply to checked bags as well?

I am coming down for surgery on the 15th, (surgery's scheduled for the 16th) unforunately I am going to have to come alone as my husband is going to stay to take care of our kids; especially the baby who would have the most trouble with us both leaving, I am a little nervous to do it alone but know it will be fine. Anyhow I would love to connect with others who will be down at the same time maybe even meet up to shop together etc. I am 23 and it will be my first time in Mexico ao hoping to get out at least a little bit while there.

Hey there. I recommend you take a taxi to Revoltion Ave or the mall. Note where you are and arange for the driver to pick you back up there at a agreed upon time. I would recommend you jot down the address of your hotel or take a biz card so you know where you want to go back to. Always be on the safe side. We had no issues and our taxi driver spoke very little english.

That is what I would do.

I agree with Angie. I traveled down alone and had no problem whatsoever. I stayed at the Marriott and they have a little store on site where you could buy water and juice. I found all I had to do was ask and they brought me bottled water free anyways. I did take along packages of chicken broth and Crystal light. Taking a cab is the way to go if you are alone. The people were very friendly and more than willing to help me out.

Good luck with your surgery.

When you are ready to go shopping, the taxis are waiting outside the hotel. We asked the drivers if they spoke english and if they didn't, we would get one that could. We felt very safe there even when shopping. Just do like they say and don't be out after dark. We took a suitcase and it helped when we came home because we had bought a ton of stuff. Make sure it has wheels because you will be very sore. Gas X strips were very helpful. They give you about 4 pain pills when you leave the clinic. Make sure you save one for the flight home. Doesn't really matter where you stay,(Marriott/Lucerna) they both have the OCC special of broth,juice.etc. Hope this helps!! Good luck!!

just go to Revolucion and write down cross streets. i speak spanish but i still got a little lost even when i asked for directions (walking) but taxi's came to my rescue.. i had my bf go and change $20 worth in pesos and we paid taxis like that but they also take dollars so take lots of singles so you don't have to wait for change.

as for my last meal... we ordered room service and it was terrible. i had some kind of pasta with "alfredo" and it had NO flavor. it came with wild rice but it was really bad too. my bf's (not banded) he had a salmon plate. it was ok..but not much flavor either.. i suggest you just go down to the restaurant. i think it comes from the same place but at least there you can send it back not like room service.

OR just go to the sombrero place (it's a huge sombrero building) walking distance to the marriot. i hear that it's really good there. i would've if i had the option to do that over. just remember not to eat too late... actually after 12mdnite. so i think you can eat whatever you like.

You will be fine going alone. The doormen at your hotel will help you with the taxi and tell the driver where to take you. The mall is as safe as any in the U.S. and I was able to find a few great toys for my son - taxi ride was $5.00 - arranged in advance with the taxi driver. I had no trouble finding a taxi for a return trip no matter where I went.

Good luck and best wishes!
