MyNext30Years
Has anyone noticed a change in their BM habits since surgery? I can't pinpoint exactly when mine changed, but it's changed. I now have fairly soft BMs sometimes 3-4 times before I even leave for work in the morning. OCCASIONALLY, I'll go a day or two in between, but usually it's several times a day. Also, my, eh-um, gas is rather forceful. I also suspect that I have an internal hemorrhoid problem since I've been bleeding (bright red/pink blood) w/ 98% of my BMs (and even some of my gas) since about April - possibly when my other changes happened. I guess the two could be related, but I wouldn't suspect that softer stools could cause hemorrhoids. BTW, I do have an appt. set up with a surgeon tomorrow morning to check things out since my GP Dr. couldn't find anything. I'm slightly nervous as to what he might find - especially after I did a little googleing of my problems. I can't believe I'm posting this and thank God I'll probably never meet anyone from here! B2010
I can say that I definitely noticed a change in gas following surgery, but now 4 months out it has subsided. I also of course noticed major change in BM during and shortly after my 3 week liquid phase and I think that the time without any solid food kind of cleaned my system out. That was then - I think now that I'm 4 months out post-op things have returned to pretty normal. I've also had hemorrhoids but didn't notice any increased inflammation during any of my time since surgery. Maybe you need more fiber in your diet to get things "together"

MyNext30Years
Ok, I had to google it, I had no idea that Fiber would help out on both ends of the spectrum - from softening to hardening! LOL Although the past few weeks we have been eating quite a bit more veggies since our garden is producing nicely.
Lindsay
I have to eat one of those nasty-ass dry Metamucil 'wafers' every single day, or I never poop! I think the longest I went was almost 6 days! and when I did go, it looked like rabbit poo. sooo tiny.
jhawkchick75
I had an issue with going and now it's worse. I do some miralax in apple juice every so often in the morning and also do some fiber choice chews each day to help things along. Still not good, but better than it was. MyNext30Years
Well, I had my colonoscopy yesterday and it's either Crohn's or Colitis. Should know more on Friday! I must say the prep for the colonoscopy w/ clear liquids the day before was the worst part - you'd think I'd be used to it by now with the liquid phases we have to go through w/ the band! Lindsay
Sorry to hear that. Not sure which one to hope for Crohns or Colitis..... hehehe! (not funny, but it is) that's exactly what I was thinking. Either way, i just hope you can figure out what's wrong, so you can work on correcting it
MyNext30Years
Sorry to hear that. Not sure which one to hope for Crohns or Colitis..... Yeah, I'm not sure either. I've been reading (a little bit) online in between working today and they both have their good and bad points. Except that Colitis is limited to just the colon and Crohns can be any where along the digestive tract from the mouth to you know where. (Not sure if Crohn's can spread since it's in my colon now?) lovesMaui
I really hope it's not Crohns. It's the worst of the two. I know this because I have lived very closely with Crohns. Both my neice and my sister in law have it. I won't go into anything as I don't want you to worry, it may not be what you have. I'm glad you saw a doctor and that you are getting diagnosed. Best wishes to you as you go through this.
skinnyagain
Don't be embarrassed....I had gas issues after surgery and still do, I don't know if you can't burp, but if you can't that gas has to go somewhere....So fart away dear. Its been 1.5 years and I am at 2cc in my band and I am now finally able t burp, they are not normal burps, kinda like a burp struggling to get out!!! I think everyone has had or does have some sort of poo issues. Mine was always the opposite. I take benefiber in my coffee every morning and that keeps me regular. You can also add more bulk fiber by benefiber, or those other nasty tasting bulk fibers to see if your poo's harden up a bit. Drink more water...I like benefiber because it does not change the taste or texture of my food. I would not think you have Chrohn's or colitis, you would be having major abdominal pain with those, and be pooing till you thought your brains were coming out. Perhaps its more of a IBS issue. I think half the world has IBS...Some with increased poo, and othes with constipation. I think I have IBS with constipation, thus the benfiber works well for me. I do think that going to see your Dr. is a good thing. I see a colonoscopy in your future....Sorry but that is a diagnostic feature...If they do wanna do a colonoscopy make sure they use sedation so you don't remember it!!! Best of luck to you Kim
MyNext30Years
I actually already had the colonoscopy on Tues. Still recovering sort of - I'm in a little bit of discomfort I guess from where he did a lot of biopsies and removed a polyp. I got a call from the nurse today and it is colitis - even though I haven't had any discomfort. I suspect, it's a mild case or maybe in the early stages. I don't know. I'll know more when I see the GI specialist I guess. And actually I've been going poo very frequently lately, so no troubles there - afraid to evev fart at times...lol, a symptom of the IBD. Thanks everyone for your concerns and advice! I'm glad I went ahead and went to the Dr.!
