ejbennett
I am just getting started on my journey.. I have so many questions and was hoping for some expert advise from those of you already on your journey. I am really concerned about the pain, post-op. I have heard they do not give you much for pain medication. I have a very LOW tolerance for pain, what do they prescribe after the surgery and how much will they give us to take home? I am really scared I am going to be flying home hurting... How much weight can I expect to lose? I noticed some people have gained weight or maintained their weight even on the liquid diet... and that makes me really confused. Can I ask the Dr's to make my band tight, or is that a bad idea? How soon after surgery should I expect my first fill? How much do they cost and how often do I need them?? I really appreciate any help anyone can offer... I am SO ready to have this surgery and get this weight off...I have struggled my whole life and I am ready for a new beginning but I am super scared at the same time.... Thanks a million for the help!!

Thanks a million for the help!! Good morning, I can answer some of your questions from my experience but as far as I can tell each of us have fairly unique experiences. Nothing is "standard". I was banded on 8/3/10 and can say that of all the medication that the OCC gave to me, I did not have to take anything for the pain. I returned to the hotel the evening I had had surgery and walked about 2 miles upon my return. The next day I was strolling through Revolutionary avenue shopping for about 4 hours. A little discomfort but no pain. The only issue I had was bending forward to do things like tying my left shoe, I felt the port at that time. But that lasted only 3 - 4 days. Everyones weight loss journey again is unique. I have been losing steadily since surgery, about 1/2 to a 1 lb every day. They tell you that you can expect to get a fill 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. The fill center I will be going to says that when you stop losing 2 lbs a week, then it is time for a fill. Costs vary all over the board for fills, the best bet is to call around your area and find out what each one charges. Hope some of this helps
curveydiva
I had surgery Monday and was back to work on Wed and did not take my pain meds. I just feel sore like a muscle soreness almost, like I did too many situps. I'm just a bit slower to sit stand and bend over. I went for a mile walk last night and did fine. I think the pain is very mild and tolerable. The worst part is getting going in the morning - trying to get out of bed once you have been laying down all night is tough - a little sore to roll over but no biggie. ejbennett
Thank you for taking the time to respond!! I was just nervous about the pain, but that does not look like an issue... Did any of you feel like you lost weight quick enough? Or if this procedure is effective? No diet has ever worked for me...ever.. but I am concerned this procedure will not cut it.. I am wondering if the gastric bypass is a better option? Just afraid to spend the money and have another failure.
jhawkchick75
I seemed to have more pain than others did, but it was not horrible. They sent me home with meds but they didn't seem to help much for me. I tried to go shopping the next day but didn't stay out long. Don't worry the pain is just more a lot of soreness than anything. Good luck! Best advice I can give is to get in here and read back in posts as much as you can. You will gain a lot of great info!
