momma4
Has any one stayed at the Camino Real Hotel that is where they have booked me for my surgery? Is it as good as the Marriot?
EricaG
I stayed at the Marriott but I hear that Camino is waaaaaaaaay better... Marriott was nice to me though. All I cared about was the nice comfy clean bed and pillows and Marriott gets a A+ for that!
Dolittle
Has any one stayed at the Camino Real Hotel that is where they have booked me for my surgery? Is it as good as the Marriot? Yo Tina,, It was a couple years ago that I stayed at the Camino Real Hotel. Please post your opinion of the place after your stay. It should have an advantage over all the hotels and that's because its close to the OCC, stores, malls and everything else. It's only about 4 blocks from the OCC. Bandiva
Trip Advisor ranks Marriott number 1 and Camino #7. Whatever that means. lol. I talked to someone who stayed there and she said it was 'fine' but didn't have anything to compare it to. Hope that helps a little! lol.

You can read the reviews here - you'll read all sorts of goodies on there about it. Good & Bad. Just take it with a grain of salt .. The ratings were 'ok'. Shari
I stayed at the Camino in Sept. when I had my plication done. It's the one to stay at. It is closer to the clinic and very, very nice. It has two restaurants in it and with a little help, you can get broth at the international one. Phil McDonald
I stay there frequently and think it is the best hotel to stay at based on location. I have stayed at the Marriot, which is a nicer property, but far removed from OCC, shopping etc. I also thought the area around the Marriot may not be as safe. The Camino Real has a decent (average) bedding package and is more similar to staying at a Best Western, Quality Inn or Clarion in the U.S. as far as overall condition and appeal. I have also stayed at the Lucerna, which is of similar appeal to the Camino Real. I like the safety and ease of walking across the street to the Plaza Del Rio Mall and shopping or getting my caffeine at Starbucks as well as the few blocks walk to the OCC. The Marriot seemed to have more staff members fluent in English and as a result the staff seems friendlier at the Marriot. However, I do not speak Spanish and seem to manage pretty well at the Camino Real. In fact, that makes it more of an adventure. Having made many trips I began feeling somewhat confident in my ability to navigate with a limited Spanish vocabulary until my last trip with my 9 year old son when I took him to McDonalds and he ended up with a sandwich that was nothing close to what he told me he wanted. He put things in the proper perspective after taking one look at his sandwich he turned to me and said "You don't really know what you are doing down here do you Dad!" Suzi
I stayed at the Camino Real and I wouldn't do it again. They spoke little english and didn't want to take dollars, only pesos. Close to a big mall but the mariott is also close to a brand new mall and a casino. No problem with english or the dollar there. They knew exactly what Ortiz's patients needed. This info from the people who were staying there. Wish I would have switched before I stayed four miserable nights at the Camino Real.

We had issues at the Marriott too. The first time we stayed, they overcharged us on our meals we got a $250 dollar bill for food at check out. They did not understand our food orders either. Our second visit I requested a bill at the time of our meals as we were charging it to our room and they told us they do not give receipts. Finally they gave us a receipt in Pesos.... The best thing to do is pay at each meal.... Then you will not be shocked when you check out.. I wish the OCC would open up some type of "hotel" or aftercare place for their patients. That would be great.
nicolek
Hi Well I started at the Camino real. I know I don't speak Spanish however I couldn't make myself understood and ended up with Chicken soup with chicken, rice and celery in and couldn't get apple juice the next day. I ended up switching to the Marriot where they spoke english and as soon as I said I was a patient of Dr ortiz they bought broth popsicles and water. I walked up the hill to the grocery store and bought apple juice and drinkable yoghurts. I couldn't get wifi in either room but had success in the lobby of the marriot and it was nice to sit by the pool.
