Pre-op, hoping to make it easier

Recommended Posts

I find most of the time the more I can prepare for things the less stress I have about them, or as my husband calls it... OCD.

Protein

I have been trying the last couple weeks to try every protein/yogurt shake to see what my "normal" stomach and digestive system can tolerate.

After studying I found not all proteins absorb the same. You want to look for ingredients that read protein isolate, before the protein concentrate. That is the same as far as soy. The processing to make an isolate is more expensive but it can be used better by the body. I was surprised to find that Muscle Milk is one of those. (Leave it to the body builders to know their proteins.)

Clear Broth

That one is going to vary with everyone's tastebuds. It actually taste ok to me if I add some jalepeno seasoning. I don't know if that will be allowed later. I know it is healthier to have the broths without MSG. I am having a cup a day just to get used to it.

Vitamins

I have changed over to liquid vitamins, that I get at Costco, in case I have problems with pills. The pleasant surprise for me is that the Multivitamin doesn't make me nauseated, and all the pill form ones do. I am taking the Reviva high potency multivitamin, and Reviva Calcium and the liquid D3.

I have lost 9 pounds in the last two weeks and have 4 more to go before my surgury on the 4th of April. I have talked to Dr. Ortiz a few times and feel confident in my choice to have the stomach plication. Hope this will help someone get ready.

Good for you, I didn't try everything out before but I supplied myself with all the drinks and stuff before going for surgery. I already knew what I liked. The older I get the more I try to be prepared. But, maybe it is because I have horses that I do it. You have to be prepared when you own them. They are always into something goofy.

I actually give protein isolate to one of my horses. He is 30 and his serum protein is low so I give him 150 grams of Isopure which is a whey protein isolate dry shake. I don't like it myself but he loves it. I mix it with his breakfast and he licks his bucket clean. I was researching all this at the same time I was researching my surgery stuff.

I don't care for Isopure because the chocolate isn't strong enough. But, you may love it.

Good luck to you,

Sharon

I had my surgery March 16th and I'm down 16 lbs since I started my pre-op.
